I think artists are factoring in future growth and sales in their current prices.
Jacob
5:17
do you guys collect animation cels as well? That's a sketchy market.
Felix Lu
5:17
@Jacob...animation cel market crashed 20 years ago, and has never recovered.
Dan T
5:17
I had suspicions but Bilquis finally posted on IG a clear view that she's working on a Batman book.  Has that been announced?
Felix Lu
5:17
@DanT...no comment!
Tim D
5:17
Own 28 Deadly Class pieces, somewhat of a fan.....
Joe L
5:17
Remember, artists don’t see a penny when that pages is sold a second time, or a third time, and so on. So they need to maximize what they can get the first time. I don’t blame them and I’m happy whenever I see these sell-outs of drops I can’t afford.
5:18
@Felix, I agree.
Jacob
5:18
@totally and so many are sold for pennies, while others are impossible to find. One of my grail pieces is a good shot of Bryaugh from Flight of Dragons. Kinda doubt I'll ever find one.
Dan T
5:18
@Tim D - Those on CAF?  I somehow fell down a rabbit hole and found someone with like 15 Transmetropolitan pieces on CAF.  That was an adventure.
JasonK
5:19
Don't take this information too seriously, Felix but just as your conversation with Jim Reid compared an artists great stuff with their average stuff, the current spread isnt wide enough between spectacular modern artists and average, imo. That spread is still too thin as everyone is anchored to past prices.
Felix Lu
5:20
@JasonK...I agree. But a lot of that is still to be determined. Part of the fun is watching how things play out!
Tim D
5:20
@Dan T Tim Durie, all on CAF, love to share the art.
Joe L
5:21
@JasonK, you might be right, but Tradd is doing his best to fix that ;)
Jason M
5:21
Ok. I got a newborn that need attending too. This has been great for my first time on this chat! Have a great weekend everyone.
Felix Lu
5:21
Good having you, Jason, enjoy the time with your family!
Morgan H
5:22
@Tim D you’re Deadly Class collection is top notch. I always find myself on there when I go down the CAF rabbit hole.
Jacob
5:22
back at ya, @Jason m
Disgruntled
5:22
@Felix. I wasn’t really talking about you.  But you do work the market into a frenzy with the newsletter for the drops.  I think if someone buys a page from any of your artists and then has to sell three years later, they probably aren’t getting the price you charged.  No snark intended, I’m speaking fromexperience.
Felix Lu
5:23
@Disgruntled...It totally depends on the art. As it is, very little is getting flipped. But from what I've seen, anything that does, still does OK. On average, ahead even. My experience.
Alvaro
5:23
@Jason M Take care!
Tim D
5:23
Thanks! @Morgan I wanted that alley way splash you have super bad, but didn't have a chance at it, it's a great piece though!
JasonK
5:24
@joe yes! Maybe tradd is ushering in a new phase.
Nathan S
5:25
@JasonK, not just the modern market, the market as a whole doesn’t spread enough, still too much bx checking. If it grows has a future it differences will
be scrutinized much more
Morgan H
5:25
@Tim D thanks! I’ve had a few people tell me they were after that one. And I almost feel bad until I see the other DC pages they have lol
Dan T
5:26
@Tim D - great Deadly Class collection!
Felix Lu
5:27
OK everyone...we're coming up on 3 hours! One of our longest chats! I've gotta get dinner going, so lightning round begins now! Post your last comments/questions!
Jacob
5:28
This was fun. Thanks, Felix. Communities are a big part of the hobby, so thanks for fostering one.
Felix Lu
5:29
You're welcome, Jacob! And hope you can get to know these collectors even better via CAF or elsewhere. Lots of good people in this hobby. Watch out for the bad ones...but you've met some good ones here, at least!
Chris S
5:29
@felix any 2020 DWJ commissions to show?
Felix Lu
5:29
@Chris, yes! Follow on social media this weekend!
JasonK
5:29
@nathan agreed but I think the more vintage stuff has had time to grow and separate. Every high demand piece eventually seems to break away (killing joke). Just thinking that these types of things will eventually happen more quickly as, as you point out, the hobby grows.
Morgan H
5:29
@felix is NYFC going to be even bigger than SDFC???
Felix Lu
5:30
We'll see? But remember, SDCC is the King. So will always be a bit more special.
Tim D
5:30
Fun chat, thanks Felix!
Dan T
5:30
Not a question, but a heads up that Amazon Prime has a lot of great (and not so great) documentaries on the art world and comic books.  There's one about David Choe even.
Felix Lu
5:30
@Dan T...David Choe is a legit fan! He loves new guys! Hits the LCS every Wed!
Dan T
5:30
Have a great wknd everyone!
Chris S
5:30
