But the Houston show, Comicpalooza, is going to be an absolute beast. Our biggest show of the year!
Jabba
10:10
Felix, you should come to Planet Comicon in KC! Kyle Strahm's home turf!
Felix Lu
10:10
Have heard good things about it! One of these years!
Chris Malkiewicz
10:11
How long did that epic battle scene in issue 6 of Extremity take to finish? I find myself going back to that frequently and finding new things each time.
DWJ
10:11
Chris M, that took me three days!  It was brutal.  Absolutely brutal.  Still proud of it though!
Felix Lu
10:12
The guy who bought that complete issue did so in large part to get that sequence!
Tim D
10:12
I want Ian Bertram's new book so bad.
Felix Lu
10:13
Initial release will be in France. I can't read French...but don't care. Can't wait for it to come out. Just absolutely incredible work by Ian.
DWJ
10:13
I'm also super pumped for that book!
Mike
10:13
Im excited for the Felix Art Instagram slide show this weekend at C2E2... love seeing all the commissions and sketches!
Felix Lu
10:14
Should be plenty of art to share! Attending artists are Chris Burnham, Nick Pitarra, DWJ, Riley Rossmo, Ramon Villalobos, Kyle Strahm, Skottie Young! Follow on Twitter, Instagram, and (yuck) FB!
DWJ

Mike, Im very excited to share what we create.  I can't wait to tackle these sketches.  I hope I get a lot!  I love doing the warmups and it's a better fit for me to do at shows now that I have more people coming up to my table to chat (which I love!)

If i ever get my hand on a Extremity #1 Blank Cover, can i send it to you for a sketch ? Also would it count as a regular commission ?
Felix Lu
10:16
Sorry Simon, we only do sketch covers at shows. No mail order.
Mike

@cameron - Im a big comic fan but recently asked for a movie character as the subject matter for a commission.  Might start doing that more ofter since I'm a big movie fan.  You can always ask for Artist choice as well.
DWJ
10:17
Mike, good idea!
Felix Lu
10:17
Artist's Choice is the ultimate gamble. We've done enough of them, though, that everyone should have a basic idea of what to expect. The upside is you have a good chance of getting the artist's best work.

Felix, I've seen some of your Aliens collection!  It's so cool! What did you think of Covenant?
Felix Lu
10:18
Thanks!
DWJ
10:18
Covenant was HORRIBLE.  I know you asked felix but I had to chime in.
Felix Lu
10:18
As for COVENANT...it wasn't as terrible as PROMETHEUS? In the sense that 5 lbs of shit is not as offensive as 10 lbs of shit. But in the end, shit is shit.
10:19
In other words, you will be not seeing any PROMETHEUS or CONVENANT commissions in my collection anytime soon.
Jabba
10:19
Felix, Do you own a Dave Stevens piece? Do they even exist?
DWJ
10:20
I thought Prometheus was an OK movie, just not an Alien movie.
And thinking back on it, a lot of the action scenes in Covenant were cool, but the whole story was pretty rough IMO.
Felix Lu
10:21
There IS Dave Stevens art on the market. But not a lot of it. It's absolutely amazing to see in person.
10:22
Get the Rocketeer Artist Edition if you can...still one of my absolute favorite AEs.
And here's the piece in my collection: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1245680
Chris M
10:23
Oh man! Those hand drawn SFX are so on point and makes the story feel alive.
DWJ
10:24
Chris M, thanks!  It's something I started doing from the very beginning.  I have NEVER liked computer SFX in any comics, ever, so I will always go organic.
Chris M
10:24
Any plans on using a better quality paper for you warm ups? I only ask because I seen you almost ripped the paper in half when erasing that Ghost Rider warm up.
DWJ
10:25
Chris M, maybe.  I don't like using nice paper because then I spend too much times on it and take it too seriously.  But maybe.
Felix Lu
10:25
The 4.5X6 sketches at C2E2 will be on art board, just for the record.
Mike C
10:25
When you wrote Extremity, did you have the whole story plotted out before you even drew a line of art? And is there any writer that you look to for inspiration?
DWJ
10:27
Mike C, I had some of it plotted.  Skybound had me work on scripts almost 6 months before I started the art, so I had plenty of time to get some story under my belt.  So I think I had written about four issues in that time, maybe more?  I had the general idea of the arc the story would take as a whole, but scripted out, about 5 issues I think were completed.
And as for writers, I look a lot to television and movies, I don't take a ton of inspiration from comic writers.
Mostly because I don't want to accidentally double dip.
Simon Nicolas
10:27
Speaking of Ian Bertram, i just saw that The House of Penance got a collector B&W release here in France
DWJ
10:28
Simon, wow!  Jealous.  I wish I could have a BW release of extremity!
Felix Lu
10:28
The French do it right. Best looking packaging in the world. We should outsource that to them...makes ours look like crap.
