DWJ

Truth.
Mike
10:28
DWJ - have you seen Ready Player One yet?  Lots of art inspiration there!
DWJ
10:29
Mike, I have not, but I want to!  Will go as soon as I possibly can, maybe a reward viewing after making it through C2E2!
Chris M
10:29
Dan, If you haven't seen it yet I think you would be a big fan of Ready Player One! I mean Gundam, Mech Godzilla come on...
DWJ
10:29
Whoah, theres a GUNDAM in there?  Now I really have to see it.
Felix Lu
10:29
Gonna try to catch it tomorrow!
Mike
10:29
"Shit is Shit"...LOL Felix!
Tim D
10:29
Curious if Felix or Daniel have seen Cowboy Bebop and if so what do they think.
DWJ
10:29
Felix is very passionate about the Alien franchise.  We have had many a discussion about it!
10:30
Tim D, I have seen it a long time ago, and am slowly re watching it.  It's inspired so much of what we see today, so it's really cool to see it now after so many years.  Also, I love the mechanical design in that movie.
Felix Lu
10:31
Bits and pieces...not really my thing. It was the huge anime property when I was going to Japan regularly in the late '90s/early '00s. The cosplay was ubiquitous over here.
DWJ
10:31
That series, sorry.
John E
10:31
Has no one asked DWJ if he’s acquired his Grendel Grail yet???
Felix Lu
10:32
Haha! Get asked that A LOT. But yeah, this is the first time this chat.
DWJ
10:32
John E, no one has!  Update about the grail.  The owner contacted me!  He said he had heard me on the Felix Podcast and wanted to say hello.  He does not want to sell, but will let me know if that ever changes.  We've been connecting about original art, so if anything, I've made a new positive connection!
10:33
It's OK that he does not want to sell.  I do truly truly love original art, but at the price that this piece would be worth, I just don't know if I could do it.
Felix Lu
10:33
You could do it.
DWJ
10:34
I'd almost rather buy a new guitar at that price than a piece of OA.  You might all hate me after I say this but it would be  difficult choice!
Felix Lu
10:34
I'd hate for you to have to learn the most painful lesson of all in this hobby: Letting a grail slip through your grasp.
DWJ
10:34
Haha Felix is a constant reminder to me of how devastating losing a piece can be.
Felix Lu
10:34
Daniel...You can buy a new guitar ANYTIME. Anytime. Any place.
10:35
Not true for a piece of art. Let alone a grail.
DWJ
10:35
Felix and I talk often about original art, he's been a great resource and open book for me.  Thanks Felix!
Mike C
10:35
Can you tell us what page the grail piece is?
DWJ
10:36
Yes, it's a splash page from GRENDEL TALES: Devils and Deaths, by Edvin Biukovic, a Croatian comic artist who passed away in the late 90's.
Here is the link to the CAF
Mike
10:37
I let a personal grail slip, then had to pay twice the price 6 years later
DWJ
10:37
Well, maybe someday!  At least now I have a relationship with the owner, and he said he would let me know if he ever decides to sell.
Felix Lu
10:38
And you had a do-over! That doesn't happen often! At least you learned and went for it when you got that miraculous second chance.
Brian
10:38
I love that Edvin Biukovic stuff!
DWJ
10:38
Brian, it's truly breathtaking.  I'm also on the hunt for another Edvin splash from his Star wars: Rogue Squadron series.
Felix Lu
10:39
The Croatian school of comic art has produced so much talent. To tie it back to Parlov.
Chris M
10:39
If you could work with any writer in comics today (that you haven't worked with) who would it be and why?
DWJ
10:42
Chris M, good question.  I'd really love to work with someone who would really treat me as an equal partner in the world we make, so someone who is good at working with others.  Honestly, if I was to work with a writer now, I would have to know and trust them before I could say I would work with them.  So it's a bit of a cop out, but I'm not totally sure.  I really do like Ennis' work on Punisher, so maybe Ennis?  But mostly I'd want to just work with Donny Cates again.
10:43
If I was doing a big two book, I'd love to do a book with Jason Aaron.
10:44
New Gods reboot with Jason Aaron.  There you go!
Felix Lu
10:44
Oh man...Ennis, Aaron would be amazing. A reunion with Donny would be aces, too.
Chris M
10:46
Yes, I heard you two have a shelf'd project of some sort that could see daylight on day. Hears to hoping that comes through! I loved Ghost Fleet and own a great page from it
DWJ
10:47
Chris, thanks!  I loved that time with Donny!  He's a great friend and a fantastic writer.
