With Yelich and Winker best suited for LF or DH, and Taylor at best a 4th OF, any thoughts on a RF trade target or free agent ? Lauer and/or Houser appear available.
Anthony Franco
6:23
Obviously the first one's a prediction rather than a question, but these are related enough
6:24
Agree it feels like one of Lauer or Houser goes this offseason after the Miley signing, particularly because Ashby should be in position to take that next step
6:25
Houser's not all that appealing a trade asset, in my view, but they could find someone willing to take him on. I'm more intrigued by flipping Lauer for an outfielder. Baltimore with Santander feels like the ideal fit for this

Next move(s) for the Astros?  I really feel they could use a veteran left handed bat for the bench who can play all over the field.
Astros
6:26
What is the likelihood the Astros sign a left-handed reliever? They've seem to have gone dark.
Anthony Franco
6:27
LH reliever would be nice but they've been just fine without it for the past couple seasons. Totally fits on the roster but I wonder how much Dusty really cares about it since the righty relievers are all so good anyways
6:28
Agree that a left-handed hitter with some infield versatility would be a decent cherry on top too. Bring Jonathan Villar back on a minor league deal?

Will Kris Bubic be a serviceable starting pitcher?  Thanks!
Anthony Franco
6:29
I've never really been a fan. Don't think the stuff is good enough to miss bats in the strike zone consistently
6:30
That forces him to nibble and runs his walk totals up. Think he's a depth starter, 6th or 7th guy who gets called upon when other pitchers get injured

Given their respective additions and the Mets lateral moves, do the Braves and Phillies project to be better than the Mets in 2023?
Anthony Franco
6:30
I think I'd go Atlanta, Mets, Philly in that order but will probably change my mind a bunch until Opening Day
6:31
They're all really good. I like Atlanta's starting pitching the most of the bunch

What do you make of the Dodgers deal for Miguel Rojas?  Do you expect him to share shortstop with Lux, or does Lux shift back to second base?  Or, is Rojas going into a utility role with late inning defensive duty at shortstop?  Lots of moving parts here with Chris Taylor and Max Muncy added to the infield rotation.
Anthony Franco
6:32
Seems like the initial plan is to bounce Rojas around but I think he'll eventually just take the shortstop job with Lux at second. Lux's arm is concerning on the left side of the infield
6:33
Taylor probably spends more time in the outfield. Muncy bounces between first, second, third and DH depending on injuries and rest days

The Cubs need to get rid of Wisdom he is not bad at 3rd but he strikes out a bunch 30% plus. Do you think they will trade him and if they do they need a better batting 3rd baseman
Anthony Franco
6:34
I think other teams are going to feel similarly about Wisdom as you do. He's a decent complementary player but not any contender's primary target at third base
Cubs could sign Brian Anderson or something and still keep Wisdom around as a depth bat off the bench

Dylan Carlson for Marcus Siemen (sp?) who says no?
Anthony Franco
6:35
Stroman you mean? St. Louis isn't doing this
Arise, Sir Loin of Beef
6:35
Did the Mets really need Correa? They have Escobar and the #18 prospect Baty for 3B. They should still be one of the best teams in baseball.
Anthony Franco
6:35
Oh sorry, just realized the SP in the previous question refers to the spelling of Semien's name, not his position
6:36
Texas isn't trading Semien after all they've done this winter and St. Louis wouldn't give up Carlson to take on that contract
Cards fan
6:37
No, Marcus Siemien, the infielder that plays on Texas! Not Stroman.
Anthony Franco
6:37
Ha yes, my mistake
6:38
As to the Correa question, I agree they don't need a third baseman. Escobar and Baty is fine. Think they just tried to jump on the chance to get an impact player when he fell into their laps
Back to Back
6:38
With CC back to Twins and R. Lewis now most likely moving to the OF, would Gordon be a good target as a UTL player for the Astros and what kind of cost would he be?
Anthony Franco
6:40
Yeah I like Gordon a lot as a trade target for teams that need a left-handed hitter. Guessing Minnesota would want immediate pitching help
6:41
Urquidy probably doesn't move the needle enough, Houston wouldn't do any of the other guys one-for-one. Doubt the Astros would give up Bryan Abreu for Gordon either
It's a tough matchup specifically unless you're building a more significant trade package

Anthony Franco
6:41
Logan Webb is great

6:41
Will Greinke sign with a contender, KC, another team or retire?
Anthony Franco
6:42
Don't think KC would've signed Lyles if they thought Greinke was coming back. Would be surprised if he retires, think he just signs elsewhere
Padres maybe?

Who is the best defensive center fielder today?
Anthony Franco
6:43
I'd take Buxton

Bad contract trades and swaps get discussed all the time, but don't seem to occur very often. What are the circumstances under which two teams might negotiate such a trade or swap?
