Just feels like you need the perfect combination of the players' deals being fairly similar and the two teams matching up at positions of varying strength and weakness
The players themselves have to still be decent even if overpaid. Otherwise there's no appeal for the other team in targeting them to begin with. Just requires a lot of moving parts that are tough to pull off in practice

Do you think if Pete Rose were put on the Major League HOF ballot he would be elected?
Anthony Franco
6:44
I don't
6:45
I would vote for him but would guess he'd get under 75%
Juicy J

Corbin Carroll hits 20 HR, produces 4.5 WAR and wins ROTY…am I right?
Anthony Franco
6:46
Bold but obviously not crazy. Think I'd take Miguel Vargas as my Rookie of the Year pick personally
Juicy J
6:46
Nick Pratto, K 36%…yikes. Can he be “successful” in the majors at 30%?
Anthony Franco
6:47
Probably not. Only first basemen who got 300+ plate appearances with a strikeout rate above 30% last year were Dalbec, Voit and Walsh
6:48
None of them were good. Think he'd need to be in the 26-28% range annually to be an everyday player given the power and defense
A's Fan
6:48
Will the A's trade any more vets before Opening Day?
Anthony Franco
6:49
I think they should trade Seth Brown still
Rocco
6:49
Is Brooks Lee almost major league ready? I’ve heard nothing but great things!
Anthony Franco
6:49
Still has barely played at Double-A. Need to give him a year at least
PK
6:49
and why did Jays settle for Varsho instead of Carroll for Moreno. I realize that carroll was "off the table", but then why wasn't moreno?
Anthony Franco
6:50
Varsho's good and cheaply controllable for four years. Doubt Toronto sees that trade as "settling," they just love the player
JOE
6:50
Who is the Yankees opening day left fielder and who is the post trade deadline left fielder?
Anthony Franco
6:51
I'll say Ben Gamel for Opening Day. Post-deadline, guess I'll go Ian Happ
Addel
6:51
Am I still in tge Angels plans or a trade chip
Anthony Franco
6:52
No reason to trade him just for the sake of doing it when he can still be optioned but yeah, they'd have to be open if it got them significant enough MLB help
Too much at stake this year to take him off the table when he hasn't produced at the major league level yet
Mike Trout
6:52
Why are we not signing another SP or outfielder
Anthony Franco
6:53
Outfield is set with Renfroe, Trout, Ward. I do think they'll still add another starter
Tony
6:53
Thanks for taking questions! My question is about the Cardinals. Making sense of the off season, it seems they are trying not to block any of the talented youngsters on the rise. With that said, I still think they need a front of the rotation starter. Any chance that happens? Or do you expect more fiddling on the margins.
Anthony Franco
6:54
Yeah I agree that's kind of the missing piece on an overall very good roster. That kind of guy just isn't available in trade this winter, unless you consider Pablo López an ace or get Trevor Rogers to bounce back
If Ohtani, Bieber, a resurgent Giolito, etc. become available at the deadline, I'm sure the Cards would be in the mix
Joe
6:54
What’s The best case scenario for Royals in 2023?
Anthony Franco
6:56
MJ Melendez and Drew Waters solidify themselves as everyday outfielders. Brady Singer pitches well again and Daniel Lynch takes a step forward. Pratto makes the kind of contact rate improvement mentioned earlier
6:57
If all those things happened, it's a borderline playoff team. They won't all go right obviously, but a few of those things would go a long way towards laying the foundation for 2024

6:57
Is there any news or rumors about astros gm search
Anthony Franco
6:57
Nothing, just doesn't seem like Jim Crane's in any kind of hurry
6:58
Guessing they'll go through the whole process pretty quietly and eventually announce the hire without warning
The Rangers fan
6:58
Should the Rangers hold onto all the farm pitching or make a trade for a Left-fielder.
What’s Texas doing? are they trading for Renyolds.
Anthony Franco
6:58
They're one of many teams that would love to trade for Reynolds. If Pittsburgh's asking price is for multiple players from the Evan Carter, Owen White, Jack Leiter group, I don't blame Texas for holding off
6:59
Another team that could pivot to Santander. Contact the Nats about Lane Thomas maybe?
Deon
6:59
Am I crazy for thinking Bryan Reynolds is completely overrated at this point?
Anthony Franco
7:00
He's a very good all-around player but a little short of a superstar, which is how Pittsburgh seems to value him

Greetings from soggy California. Have noticed that some players defensive ratings vary greatly between DRS, UZR, and OAA. Any idea why there is such a discrepancy? Which of those do you find most accurate as far as determining as players defensive value. Which do you value the least? Thanks.
Anthony Franco
7:02
Hope you're doing well out there! My understanding is that UZR and DRS both use a pretty similar baseline of bucketing areas of the field a defender is typically responsible for covering and then determining what percentage of batted balls into that bucket turn into outs
