Wouldn't say they're literally the worst-run organization in MLB but Moreno's a bottom ten owner and I'd also be disheartened by the (non) change if I were an Angel fan

What about a new MLB rule where teams can reshuffle lineups or hit their leadoff guy to start extra innings? Aaron Judge struck out in the ninth but could leadoff in the tenth. Would make the game more exciting in extras.
Anthony Franco
5:01
Strongly dislike it haha
5:02
One of the most appealing things about baseball to me is that you usually can't choose who's hitting with the game on the line, which makes roster depth more important than in most other sports

With the Clevinger situation, do the Brewers and White Sox now line up for a trade that could benefit both teams? How about a Houser + Comp B Pick for Aaron Bummer? Brewers get their lefty setup man, Sox get a mid level starter, with 2 years of cheap control, the pick is for the extra 2 years of Bummer... thoughts?
Anthony Franco
5:02
White Sox aren't doing that

What’s a bad contract that the Royals can swap Dozier for? Or do you think they see no sense in it and they’ll just hold on to him or DFA him maybe after this season (the latter is my expectation).
Anthony Franco
5:04
Yeah I think the latter outcome is a lot more likely, can't think of a bad contract match since there'd be a number of teams that wouldn't carry Dozier on the roster even if he were just making league minimum

Presuming that the Angels do not trade Ohtani in mid-season, and that he signs a long-term contract as part of that transaction, do the Tigers have more than the proverbial "snowball's chance in Hell" of signing Shohei?
Anthony Franco
5:05
Eh, I don't really see it. They have long-term payroll space and some interesting young players, but the competition will be so fierce he'd have to really love Detroit to spurn offers from bigger-spending teams with more immediate paths to contention

I do see different guys coming up in important spots, but if you could start your lineup from 1 instead of 6 in the top of the 10th, more ABs for the players that sell tickets (Judge, Trout, Ohtani, Arenado, etc). Baseballs uniqueness is also the biggest issue. LeBron James can score on any offensive possession. Aaron Judge could get walked and not get another at bat for 40 minutes.

Haha yeah this is why I don't watch basketball
I see where you're coming from, just like a very different thing from the sport than you do

What other moves will the Royals making before opening day?

Steve looked at a few other trade candidates on the roster on Wednesday

It appears - my impression - that Dana Brown offers lip service to analytics. Which current successful GMs are viewed as running a less analytically minded front office? I miss Luhnow.
Anthony Franco
5:09
I'm not sure this is a completely accurate characterization of Brown's philosophy but as far as "scouting-first" organizations go, Washington and Kansas City had a lot of success in recent years. Dayton Moore's no longer with the Royals but would've qualified a few months ago
5:10
I think the Braves themselves fall pretty balanced on the scouting-analytics spectrum but have obviously been as successful as any team during the past half-decade

Why has Edwin Rios not signed yet? Thank You!
Anthony Franco
5:10
Probably holding out in hopes of an MLB deal

Does the Rays' extending Jeffrey Springs have any impact on their ability to trade for the hitter they have needed all off-season?
Anthony Franco
5:11
Reading between the lines of Erik Neander's comments here, I think they kind of struck out on the offensive targets and have since pivoted towards extensions rather than the other way around

Even since his earliest days with Oakland, I have thought that Kendall Graveman has been an undervalued asset (both IRL and Roto).  His stats bear my confidence out, even after he came to the White Sox.  A) Do you think Chicago will go with him as their closer?  B) Why, do you think, don't others value him similarly?  Thanks, Anthony
Anthony Franco
5:13
Yeah I think he's the closer until Hendriks is hopefully ready to return at some point. I agree with you that Graveman's generally underrated, probably just because he was a nondescript starter for a while before the bullpen conversion

Who won the Hot Stove League? As it sits now. Minnesota? for getting Carlos Correa at an awesome deal or NY getting Judge and Rizzo back? Maybe Texas or San Diego? what do you think?
Anthony Franco
5:14
Texas for me
5:15
They needed a rotation overhaul. Took on a lot of injury risk but turned a bottom five group into one that could be really good if it mostly stays healthy

When do you think Kumar Rocker becomes a factor?
Anthony Franco

Midway through 2024
Miguel Sano

Does he settle for a minor league pact?
Anthony Franco
5:16
Borderline but I'd guess he gets a low-base MLB deal

Did you read The Athletic’s recent series on possible MLB expansion cities? If not, I’d recommend it. Which 2 cities do you see as most likely to earn a new club and by what year?
Anthony Franco
5:17
I have not. I'll check it out, thanks!
5:19
Rays stadium stuff has to be resolved within the next four years (A's before that). Seems like expansion becomes more plausible once those get figured out. If I had to set an arbitrary O/U on expansion, 2032 feels kind of plausible?

5:19
What, if anything, can or should MLB do to prevent a repeat of the Correa fiasco?
Anthony Franco
5:19
Don't think there's anything to be done. Just a unique case given his injury history

Why all the talk that Gavin Lux doesn't have the arm for shortstop?  He came up as a shortstop and was hyped as a future super star.  He had a little case of the yips after the position switch to second base (necessitated by the presence of Corey Seager and then Trea Turner) but seemed to recover from that.
Anthony Franco
5:21
Prospect evaluators raised questions about his throwing accuracy consistency long before he made his MLB debut and he's posted below-average throwing speeds in the majors
