Predictions on the rest of the Playoff bracket!
Anthony Franco
4:34
I took Cleveland and San Diego to make the World Series last week. I'll stick with it and take the Padres to win the thing
4:35
Please ignore this question if you're reading the transcript in eight hours and the Dodgers destroyed them

How much $ do you think Rowdy Tellez can command for 2025? After a very poor April/May this past year, he was scorching hot as a Top 5 overall 1B hitting over .300 for 3 months (June/July/August), before plummeting in September prior to his release by the Pirates. How do you value the risk/reward for a 29 year old who hit 35 HR in 2022?
Anthony Franco
4:35
Wouldn't value it highly. He's a minor league deal type for me
4:37
He's a decent but inconsistent power-over-hit lefty platoon bat without baserunning or defensive value. He had 35 homers a couple years ago but hasn't topped 21 in any other season and was a replacement level player for two years running. If a team threw him $2MM as a bench player, alright, but I wouldn't want him as a starting first baseman

Do you like Willson Contreras as a fit for Washington?  He could fit at any of C/1B/DH and it's a relatively short commitment.

4:37
Which teams would be interested in Contreras from the Cards?
Anthony Franco
4:38
Yeah the Washington fit is my favorite. I'm not a Ruiz fan to begin with but as mentioned, they could use Contreras mostly at DH in the short term if they're still hoping for Keibert to break out
4:39
Ton of payroll space, desire for a middle-of-the-order type bat
4:41
Padres could also work there. Can see a case for Detroit, Texas or the Angels. Tim has made the argument that a Cubs reunion makes some sense. I think that's probably true on paper even though I doubt those teams are lining up on a trade of that magnitude

Which teams target Devin Williams?  Certainly any team aiming to compete in 2025 could have him as a target. I'm assuming Milwaukee would prefer a trade to the AL, what could they get from a team like the Yankees, Orioles, or Rangers?
Anthony Franco
4:42
Agree that any contender makes sense. There are legitimately 20 teams that could trade for him and wouldn't surprise me. The appeal of trading for relievers is that you can basically always improve the bullpen by just knocking everyone else down a peg in the leverage hierarchy
4:43
I would pick the Phillies if you wanted one specific fit. Feels like a very Dombrowski play
4:45
On the return: feels like he should land somewhere between the Padres gave up for Tanner Scott/Bryan Hoeing and what they gave up for Hader. The Hader package is tricky as a precedent because teams clearly had wildly different evaluations of Esteury Ruiz but both he and Gasser were probably in the 100-200 range as league-wide prospects

Dodgers have almost two complete pitching rotations either active or injured.  However as we all know injuries happen and more depth is always needed. With that in mind do you think they will add at least one and possibly two starters over the winter  Thanks
Anthony Franco
4:46
Yeah they're going to need to. Can't count on Bobby Miller anymore. It's time to let Buehler walk, Flaherty will probably go. So many injury questions with Glasnow, Ohtani, Stone, Gonsolin, May, etc. that I expect them to bring in two starters

What’s Willy Adames’s market going to look like? Is he good enough defensively at SS to warrant a big contract (>$25 AAV). Any chanxe playing 3rd?
4:47
Will Adames sign somewhere to play SS or 3B
Anthony Franco
4:47
He had a weird spike in errors this year but the athleticism and arm strength are excellent. I'd still project as a plus defender at shortstop in the short term and expect he'll stick there with whoever signs him for at least the next two or three seasons
4:49
$25MM AAV feels about right. That's the going rate for the Swanson, Story, Baez types -- shortstops with power but enough concerns (usually strikeouts) that they're not superstars. I'd put Adames in that group

In the comment section of a MLBTR CHat someone suggested a trade of Sebastian Walcott to St L for Contreras, Romero, and Helsley. Isn't that a bit light on the Ranger side for three MLB caliber players?
Anthony Franco
4:51
Yeah one prospect for three big leaguers is the kind of trade that never happens. The Cardinals would need to value Walcott as a top 25-50 prospect to consider this, and even then, they'll want to diversify risk rather than putting all their eggs in one basket with a few of their top trade chips

Friday Wacky Idea: Rays don't spend the $30 million to replace their roof. Maybe they find another recently abandoned MLB stadium to play at until their new stadium is ready??? Who says no? (Obviously it would be a mess with the division)

4:51
What does MLB do with the Rays now?   Is relocating them a big possibility?
Anthony Franco
4:53
They're not going to relocate. They're getting a new stadium which they plan to be ready by 2028. We'll see what the cost is once they can responsibly assess the damage but I assume they'll repair the Trop roof for the short term, even if it means they need to play in a Spring Training facility in Florida for a little bit during the repairs

Are the Dodgers making a mistake starting Yamamoto in the most important game of the year?  San Diego has owned him in his previous starts vs. them.  It's reminiscent of the way the Astros owned Yu Darvish in 2017, both when he pitched for the Rangers that season and then for the Dodgers in postseason.  The Astros said Darvish was tipping his pitches (wink, wink) and maybe he was since they clobbered him home and road.
Anthony Franco
4:55
I'd start Yamamoto too. Padres have had his number but I'd basically throw out the MLB debut based on nerves. At that point, you're looking at two starts -- only one of which was a complete disaster
He's their best healthy pitcher. Run him

4:55
How would you go about acquiring some offense this offseason if you’re the Royals?
Anthony Franco
4:57
Free agency has a decent supply of corner outfielders. They'd make a lot of sense on Profar, especially if SD opts against a qualifying offer. Could see them as a team that takes a flier on Gleyber Torres too
4:58
Massey's an alright starter at second but there's more offensive punch if they have him in the role that Adam Frazier played this year

It has been said the cubs will be searching for a front end starting pitcher  . Which starting pitchers do you see the cubs going after .
Anthony Franco
5:00
They should just be on a top free agent like Burnes or Flaherty. Certainly have the farm depth to make a run at a Crochet type
5:01
Cubs should be involved on any top-end starter who comes available. I hope they don't come out of the offseason having traded for Zack Littell type and calling it a day
Michael Andolini
5:01
How much of Yoshida's 3/$54 do the Red Sox have to eat to trade him, assuming a nominal return?
Anthony Franco
5:04
Probably more than half. If they paid it to like $8MM per season, I could see a team without a clear answer at DH taking a flier
5:05
He's a good pure hitter but hit-over-power DH (subpar defensive left fielder at best) isn't a profile that teams are excited about
Slow news day so I can stick around for a bit unless something breaks in the next 15-20 minutes

Will Soto and Burnes freeze the off-season until they sign in 2025?
