The Giants pretty much have to get Jung Hoo Lee and at least be the high bidder for Yamamoto. What are the price tags? 250 million for Yamamoto? 125 for Jung Hoo Lee?
Anthony Franco
4:26
I'll take the under on both, although I'd be a lot less surprised to see Yamamoto get $250MM than if Lee got $125MM
4:27
I think Yamamoto gets in the low-200s. I'd take the under on $50MM for Lee. His platform year in the KBO wasn't good even before ehe underwent season-ending ankle surgery

Any chance the Braves consider trading Ozzie Albies this offseason?  If so, what would Atlanta be looking for in return?
Anthony Franco
4:28
I don't see why they would be. Atlanta president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos was on the New York Post's podcast a couple days ago and basically said they expected the entire lineup back, pending their decision on Eddie Rosario in left field
4:29
No need to shake up the best lineup in baseball when everyone's under contract for below-market prices

Hey, Anthony!  I'm back and checking in from the Cubs Department:  What do YOU think the chances are that Pete Alonso  changes from Mets to Cubs pinstripes?  And will he be teammates with Cody Bellinger, or will Scott Boras have other ideas?
Anthony Franco
4:30
I'd put the odds of a Cubs trade for Alonso this offseason at like 5%. Mets president David Stearns said at his introductory presser they expect to hold him into the year
Never say never, but a deadline deal seems more plausible than an offseason one
4:31
As for Bellinger re-signing, I'd probably put it in the 10-15% range. They'll be in the market but I'd guess a team that doesn't have Pete Crow-Armstrong in the wings is desperate enough to sign him that the price goes out of the Cubs' range

Is Bohm becoming a competent 3B the best surprise for the Phillies this year? Heading into the year, everyone was talking about how to fit Bohm (at 1B), Hoskins, and Schwarber onto the roster before Hoskins was hurt.
Anthony Franco
4:35
Not trying to discredit Bohm -- he's done well enough -- but my biggest pleasant surprises for Philadelphia would be 1) Johan Rojas immediately playing a quality center field and 2) how well guys like Jeff Hoffman, Orion Kerkering (yesterday notwithstanding) and Matt Strahm have pitched to give them an above-average bullpen

I think Jeimer Candelario is a solid fit in Seattle. Corner infield and DH. Whats a contract look like? 3 years for 35/45mill.
Anthony Franco
4:36
Over. Four years in the low-mid 60s for me. Steve had him above 70
Arthur Dent
4:36
Assuming Soler opts out, what is he going to get on the open market?
Anthony Franco
4:36
We've got Soler at three years in the $45-50MM range right now
Dodger Dave

Thanks for the chat. Which of the following 2024 player options will LA pick up Lynn, Treinen, Hudson, Reyes, or Kelly? Thanks
Anthony Franco
4:37
I'd be surprised if they exercise any of those. Should exercise Muncy's $14MM option. I can see a case on Kelly at $9.5MM but lean towards a buyout
4:38
Would be really surprised if they exercise the others. Lynn's way too homer-prone for a $17MM addition at this point. Just no reason to expect any of Treinen, Hudson or Reyes to reliably stay healthy

Both NL managers pulled their starters last night quicker than I expected. Do you think they might seek more length from a performing starter after the bullpen failures?
Anthony Franco
4:39
Bullpen failure feels harsh, especially for Arizona. Saalfrank, Thompson, Ginkel and Sewald combined for 3 1/3 of one-run ball against a loaded lineup
4:40
Both teams will have slightly longer leashes for their top starters than their #3 guys, but a quick hook for starters is standard procedure in a postseason game
4:42
Especially in that situation for the D-Backs. Bullpen was fully rested. They had to win the game. Pfaadt was awesome yesterday but he'd had a pretty rocky season. I think Lovullo made the right call getting him out after two times through in a tied game no matter how well he was pitching
Key pieces of the bullpen were fully rested, I should clarify

Do you think the Brew Crew takes a gentle pause in '24? Non-tender Woodward, and trade Burnes and Adames or MLB-ready players.  Without Woodward, they have to keep Burnes. But their whole model of sustained success is predicated on replenishing their system by trading expensive late-arb players. Standing down in 24 would let Chourios and the other outfielders adjust without overwhelming pressure and set them up to be a force in '25.
Anthony Franco
4:44
It's an interesting question. I'd guess they'll try to make another push at competing since it's still a relatively weak division, but there's a reasonable argument for a short-term reset with Woodruff out

Does Gunnar Henderson play SS in 2024 for the Orioles or do they move him to 3B for Holliday?
Anthony Franco
4:44
Seems like it'll be Holliday at short and Gunnar at third

Hey Anthony, thanks for the chat. I was a bit surprised, when  Darragh somewhat downplayed the contributions of Heyward and Peralta in his article about the upcoming Dodger offseason. He didn’t mention Outman at all, as I recall. Recognize the age factor but the team needs some senior experience and leadership. What say you?
Anthony Franco
4:45
Darragh touched on Outman. Didn't go into much detail because he seems locked into center field, so there's not a whole lot to discuss there in terms of their offseason
4:46
Heyward was a really solid addition for them. Good veteran guy who contributed in a more limited role. They could bring him back
4:47
Peralta seems like a great guy to have around but he did nothing offensively down the stretch. Probably have to upgrade there

Off-season stuff: If Alex Cora has as much influence over the Red Sox as has been suggested, wouldn't he serve the team better in the front office than in the dugout? His in&game decisions don't seem remarkably good. I think that his influence is allegedly chasing away strong GM candidates only bolsters the point.
Anthony Franco
4:49
He doesn't seem to want a front office job right now. I don't love Cora's presence as an explanation for people declining interviews with Boston regardless. I'd put it more on ownership's fairly quick triggers for replacing baseball ops leaders
4:51
It's also not clear how rare the Red Sox's situation is. There are a bunch of people known to have declined interviews. Is that because an inordinate number of people are declining this particular position or because the Boston beat is getting ahold of these names when other teams' declined interviews go less frequently reported? Not sure

San Diego could trim payroll. Who is on the block? Soto? Could Seattle trade Cole Young, Bryan Woo, a PTBNL (10-15 ranked prospect) and a major league ready player for Soto?
Anthony Franco
4:52
I'd be surprised if the Padres traded Soto this winter but if they did, this is a pretty solid offer for one expensive arbitration season

If the Angels put Trout on the market, is there any room for him home in Philly both budget wise and outfield wise? Castellanos has 2 years to go, Marsh and Rojas look like keepers, and Crawford on the farm is coming. Thanks.
Anthony Franco
4:53
They can kick Rojas to a fourth outfield role or trade him to make room for Trout, but I can't see the Angels doing this anyways and I agree that there are better fits than Philadelphia if they did
4:54
Unless Trout straight up requests a trade to Philly, it doesn't seem a great landing spot despite his ties to the area
