Sure, depending on how much they're willing to move from the farm. I think Orelvis Martinez could go a long way towards getting you a good starting pitcher with some team control if they're open to it
4:01
As far as dealing, say, Biggio or Lourdes -- eh. Maybe that brings you back a back-end guy but it's not going to fix the rotation

I firmly believe Verlander resigns with the Stros, and Kershaw returns to Dodgers, so if your CY do you pursue Degroom at 3/90ish or Rondon at 5 115 ish or am I off on the years and money for either SP.
Anthony Franco
4:01
Higher on both. deGrom's going over 40MM AAV, think Rodón tops 130 and could push the 150 range

Edward Cabrera for Trevor Larnach .. Who says no

Marlins turn this one down

Thoughts on a Mariners / Twins deal - Jorge Polanco for Matt Brash and Bryce Miller

This one's tough. It's three years of pretty affordable control over an above-average second baseman, but the market tends to devalue those guys. In return you're talking about an extended control window of two guys who project as above-average relievers
I think Seattle balks ultimately but if it happened, I wouldn't be floored. I can see the argument for it

do I really dislike the west coast or am I open to resigning with the Dodgers.
Anthony Franco
4:05
Turner himself has said that's not really a thing, something he leaked to try to increase his leverage when the Nationals were considering trading him. I don't expect it to be a major factor
Maybe it's a small tiebreaker but if the Dodgers, Giants or Mariners top the market by 10MM or whatever, I assume he'll take it

Are you surprised Bochy is back in the game???  I sure am!!

Quite but it's cool, I'm excited to see how it goes

I think Brandon Belt and Archie Bradley would be good Buy Low players for the A's to sign and hopefully flip at the Trade Deadline. Which SP free agents would fit that profile?

Matthew Boyd?
4:07
Give him a chance to start now that he's healthy, see if the park tamps down his HR rate and flip him midseason

Does a Trevor Bauer pitch in MLB in 2024?
Anthony Franco
4:07
Depends on the result of the appeal probably. If he wins and the suspension is reduced or overturned, I do think someone would give him another chance
4:08
If the suspension is upheld, I'd be shocked if he played again

Why is Dave Roberts so anxious to pull his starter so soon. It seems to be a new trend. Drysdale would never accept it
Anthony Franco
4:09
Everyone does this, not just Roberts. Pitchers become less effective the more times they face the same hitter in a game, so managers increasingly get their starter out
That's particularly true if you have a loaded bullpen, as L.A. does

when an option is bought out does it count towards the luxury tax for the year it was bought out or the following year?
Anthony Franco
4:12
Option buyouts are considered guaranteed money. The luxury tax is calculated based on a deal's average annual value, not the actual payment structure, so it's dispersed evenly throughout the term of the deal
Let's say a player signs for three years at $9MM per with a $3MM buyout on a $10MM option for year four
4:13
The buyout counts as part of the guarantee, so each of the first three years of the contract is calculated as $10MM for CBT purposes
4:14
If it's a player option, I believe the entire guarantee is averaged out over the AAV and the team gets some money back at the end if the player chooses the buyout rather than exercising their option
4:15
Ok that's all I have time for unfortunately, have to get back to top 50 work
If I didn't get to your question here, feel free to throw it at me on Twitter and I'll get back to you
