Do the Astros resign Yusei Kikuchi>
Anthony Franco
4:32
No, feels like he priced himself out there. Dana Brown has already talked about his comfort level with the in-house starting pitching and they're up against it financially even if they don't re-sign Bregman. Doubt they've got the appetite for $20MM annually for Yusei
4:33
Front office deserves a lot of credit for the deadline pickup though. I really disliked that trade from their perspective -- partially because I'm a Jake Bloss fan but more so because I'm a Kikuchi skeptic -- and he was fantastic for them. It'll get lost because they didn't make another playoff run, but they don't win the West nearly as comfortably as they did without him

Who should the Jays sign - Santander or Theo Hernandez?
Anthony Franco
4:34
I'd bring Teo back personally. The age should keep the commitment a little shorter and I slightly prefer Hernández to Santander as a player

Everyone needs Fried, but do you see the Mets as being front-runners for his service?  If so, how many yrs/$s?
Anthony Franco
4:36
They make a lot of sense. Feels early to pick them as a frontrunner since it's possible Fried wants to go to the West Coast or something, but I'm sure the Mets will be involved
I like Fried at six years in the $160MM range but he's a divisive one for us
4:37
Steve and I were a lot more bullish on his market than Tim and Darragh have been in our deliberations so far. Right now, we've got him at five and around 130 for the site prediction, which I think is light

Any Nationals big bat speculation you have? Santander makes sense on the high end while Christian Walker does as well and Carlos Santana if they’re on a budget.
Anthony Franco
4:38
Walker makes a lot of sense. The Nats are my favorite fit for a Willson Contreras trade. I expect them to aim higher than Santana, who's a good player but doesn't have the kind of punch they need to add at first base or DH
4:40
Nats could be in on Alonso too. There's a lot of first basemen or corner outfielders available. They don't need outfield help necessarily but they could sign Teoscar or Santander and use him mostly at DH. I don't buy them as a realistic suitor for Soto and assume they're not signing Adames to move Abrams off shortstop, but any other hitter could work there

Tigers more likely to go after a first or third baseman?
Anthony Franco
4:42
The supply of first basemen is a lot better. Third base might be Bregman or bust. I expect the Tigers to be involved there but am in a "believe that when I see it" mode for a $200MM deal with Chris Ilitch's ownership

Hats off to the Dodgers and Yanks on a fun, successful season and let's have a great Series! Formalities aside, which happens first? Expansion or a CBA ratified Salary Floor + Cap? Thanx Anthony!
Anthony Franco
4:43
Expansion. I do not see the cap happening at any point in the near future. Players union remains way too strong to go for that
Borbin Curnes
4:43
Stanton, Soto, and Judge are going to roll over the depleted Dodgers pitching staff. Yanks in 5
Anthony Franco
4:44
I'll take Yankees in 6
But I also had the Rangers winning the World Series before the season started and the Padres winning once the playoffs got here, so...

Contreras to the Nats is fun. Who would they have to send to St Louis to make that happen?
Anthony Franco
4:47
He's got three years and $59.5MM in remaining guarantees with a fourth-year club option. If he were a free agent this offseason, that's about what I'd expect for his ages 33-35 seasons. Still a really good hitter and clearly better than any FA catcher available, but you're banking on him getting a lot of DH reps as well
4:50
If the Nats took the whole contract, they should be able to get him for a couple mid-level prospects. I don't know how Chaim Bloom feels about Washington's farm system, but someone like Daylen Lile as a headliner perhaps?

Alonso
4:50
Where do you think Pete Alonso will sign this offseason?
Anthony Franco
4:51
Man, I have no idea. Steve and I were talking about how tricky Alonso is to project. We know they're going to be looking for $150MM+ based on the rep but this profile does not get paid like that anymore
4:53
Could be a Nationals or Giants nine-figure splash, I guess. I think there's a real possibility that they overshoot the market and end up circling back to the Mets late in the offseason for three years at a high AAV with an opt-out though
4:54
Dropping $150-175MM on Alonso doesn't feel like David Stearns' m.o., especially with Vientos stepping up as a middle of the order force who probably won't stick at third base

Why on earth do calls to the bullpen go through a big, clunky landline phone? For the visuals, so we can all see it's happening?
Anthony Franco
4:55
Inertia? I've never thought about it haha

4:55
Who do you think Atlanta will trade? Ozuna ?,a Soler/Murphy package? Will they stick with Kelenic and Arcia?
Anthony Franco
4:56
I think they'll trade Soler and have increasingly warmed to the possibility, maybe because of weekly questions from Bill in the chat, of them moving on from Murphy while they can still duck out of the entire deal
Not in a package deal though

Is Garrett Crochet the most valuable player on the trade market; will taking Robert's contract enhance a team's prospect for a deal, and which team is best positioned to make the trade?
Anthony Franco
4:57
Crochet's the best combination of talent, affordability and likelihood to get moved, yeah
4:58
The Sox aren't going to throw Robert in there as a salary dump. He's coming off a horrible year but he's two good months away from being the top trade chip of the deadline. I highly doubt they're attaching Crochet to an underwater contract at all, but if they did, Benintendi's the guy to do it with
5:00
They'll just trade Crochet for multiple top prospects though. The affordability is such a huge part of the value. I like the Padres and Braves as fits but you can make an argument for any team that expects to compete in 2025 getting involved
5:01
Like I don't think the Mariners are doing this, but they have a ton of prospects, could easily fit him into the budget and then trade one of Miller or Woo for rotation help. Crochet could work anywhere

5:02
Back to your Contreras to the Nats answer, as they don't have much at 3B in the minors and the Nats have House and Morales coming up, would Cayden Wallace be a better headliner return for the Cards in that deal?
Anthony Franco
5:03
Sure, Wallace could work. I picked Lile as an example of the general tier of prospect but Wallace feels like he's in that range
