Hey everyone, hope you're concluding a great week!
Excited for another one of these, let's do it
Mike Trout
3:00
There are so many rumors about trading me or Othani. Do you put trust in any of them
Anthony Franco
3:01
Nope, it's basically just speculation among fans of other teams right now
We could get to a point where an Ohtani trade becomes realistic, particularly if there's no extension and the Angels get off to a slow start in '23. I have no reason to believe we're there right now

What moves do you expect the Yankees to make?
Anthony Franco
3:02
Look to re-sign Judge and Rizzo, first and foremost (obviously Judge is the priority). Severino's back on the club option
3:03
As far as external stuff goes, I think it's mostly about overhauling the infield. IKF didn't pan out, they'll probably try to shed some of the Donaldson money. Could even see them entertaining trades of Torres if it nets them some controllable starting pitching
3:04
I don't think they'll want to do anything long-term on the infield that blocks the path for Peraza and Volpe. But bringing in a shorter-term upgrade at third base (even just a Jace Peterson type who can move around and adds some left-handed balance) makes sense to me
3:05
And they'll obviously add to the bullpen somehow and probably poke around the market for a veteran catcher

3:05
Thanks for the chat. Even though Judge will be their first priority and cost a small fortune, do you see the Yankees possibly still being a player in the top tier pitching market this offseason?
Anthony Franco
3:06
They'll be in the mix here too, sure. Competition will be stiff and I probably wouldn't pick them to get any of deGrom, Verlander or Rodón, but they'll be tied to all three I'm sure

Where could Elvis Andrus end up next season? He had a nice resurgence after going to Chicago, and could be a backup plan for those who miss out on Xander, Turner, Correa, etc (on a 1 year deal, I’m sure).
Anthony Franco
3:06
He did, yeah. We spent a good bit of time kicking around Andrus this morning as we were working on Top 50 stuff. He's not going to get on there, none of us felt strongly enough about him getting two years, but he should at least land a pretty solid one-year deal for like $8MM
3:07
Red Sox make sense, Twins too. White Sox could try to bring him back to play some second base and guard against another Anderson injury. Mariners at second, Phillies if they don't get a top shortstop
3:08
He won't be anyone's first choice but he'll find an everyday job as a stopgap later in the offseason I think

3:08
For the managerial positions still open, any predictions on who ends up where?
Anthony Franco
3:08
I'll randomly go Espada to Chicago and Quatraro to K.C.
Feels like they've both had a long time coming on one of these

Does George Valera have a chance to make the Guardians' opening day roster in 2023, or will he start in AAA?
Anthony Franco
3:10
Opening Day's rich for me. Still only 22, hit .221 in his first Triple-A action. The outfield in Cleveland already has some more established but still young guys who'll be back. Think he's back to Columbus for now

Which of their free agents do you think the Astros will try to keep? Who will they try to sign from outside the organization?
Anthony Franco
3:11
I'm sure Jim Crane would love to have JV back. Vázquez and Mancini probably walk for more playing time elsewhere
Think they could try to bring Brantley back later in the offseason to rotate between LF and DH with Yordan
3:13
Externally, they also feel like a decent fit for a lefty-hitting utility type in the Peterson mold. If Aledmys walks, a LHH bat offers a but more balance. Could make a run at a left-handed reliever like Matt Moore or Chafin if he opts out, although that wasn't a huge priority for them last winter
It's all kind of luxury adds though. The team is going to be so good again regardless of what they do

When will we hear about the Super 2 cut-off?
Anthony Franco
3:14
Tim reported the 2021-22 Super Two cutoff last November. I haven't heard anything about it this year but guessing it'll come out in a similar range this time around
Yasiel Puig is a free agent
3:14
Astros announced their thirteen WS pitchers.  Does that make them a "Baker's dozen"?  More seriously, how about Jeff McNeil for David Stearns?
Anthony Franco
3:14
Solid pun. Would not give up McNeil for Stearns and he doesn't want to step right back in atop a front office anyways

Hi Anthony, lining up with the dbacks, which trade would be more possible and make more sense. Josh Rojas (IF) & Jake McCarthy (OF) FOR Alejandro Kirk (C), Teoscar Hernandez (OF) & Adrian Hernandez (P)

Josh Rojas (IF) & Daulton Varsho (OF/C) FOR Gabriel Moreno (C), Teoscar Hernandez (OF), Orelvis Martinez (SS) & Yosver Zulueta (P)
Anthony Franco
3:16
In both instances, I think that's more than the Blue Jays would want to give up. I like Rojas a lot but not enough to lead a deal for Kirk, and McCarthy's a solid but not great secondary piece
Varsho's great but that's a huge haul of talent you're sending back in the second offer

3:17
What would STL need to give up to acquire Bryan Reynolds from PGH?
Anthony Franco
3:18
I don't know about STL specifically, since it comes down to which of the Cards prospects the Pittsburgh front office likes. Generally speaking, for three years of Reynolds I still think you're looking at two top 100 types plus some mid-tier pieces
3:19
So like Masyn Winn, Gordon Graceffo and a couple lower level guys Pittsburgh's high on? STL wouldn't put Walker in there but anyone else in the system would have to be on the table
Duffy Scliff
3:19
Who’s a logical fit for the Orioles at DH? JD Martinez? Mountcastle and someone else who can split at first base? Could Mancini come back??
Anthony Franco
3:20
Ha Steve was just making the case for Mancini back to Baltimore this morning. I'm a little more skeptical since they didn't make much or any effort to extend him the first time, but he thinks it's viable
3:21
J.D. means you're really pigeon-holing Mountcastle into playing defense every day. It's not crazy but they might prefer someone with a little more flexibility to move around the infield, particularly since they'll want some DH at-bats for Santander if Stowers plays his way into the picture

  • Rays - Royce Lewis or Brooks Lee, Simeon Woods-Richardson, Emmanuel Rodriguez
  • Twins - Tyler Glasnow, Yandy Diaz
