It's both. They're going to do the Brewers, Guardians, Rays type thing where they don't fully commit to a specific window but continue to strike a balance between win-now additions and progressively bolstering the farm system in trades
While at the same time spending heavily in free agency but with a preference for higher-AAV, shorter-term deals
4:19
They'll consistently have a top ten payroll but they're not going to grab multiple top free agents every winter

Could Texas get a quality pitcher in trade for the abundance of infielders or would they have to give up minor pitching as well, and who could they get.
Anthony Franco

There's enough infield talent for a Luzardo, José Urquidy, maybe Spencer Turnbull if they're confident in his TJ recovery

Which pitching staffs do you think will be least and most impacted by removing the shift?
Anthony Franco
4:22
Interesting question to which I hadn't given any thought. My gut would be a higher ground-ball staff that's pitching in front of a rough infield defense would be most adversely affected. Higher-strikeout/fly-ball teams less likely to be impacted
Basically teams with sinkerballers and bad defenses have to adjust the most
4:23
That's the Giants, Phillies, Rockies. SF is already on record about wanting to get more athletic, probably in part because of this. Philly is likely to lose Segura and will have the Gibson/Eflin types hit free agency anyways
4:24
I guess it could hurt the Rockies, who are bringing back the Freeland/Senzatela types, but a left side infield of Tovar and McMahon should help cover for that

Is there something in the game that bugs you?  For me, it is when the crowd/sheep lustily boos the pitcher on the opposing team for a throw over to first base.  I understand taunting the pitcher for throwing over incessantly. But a first throw?  (And next year the throws will be limited) Holding the runner close is an essential part of the game.  It's like booing the other team for bringing the infield in with a runner at third and less than two outs.  Booooooooo!!!!!!!!

Ha, I don't have a great answer off the top of my head.  Pitcher repeatedly stepping off in front of a huge pitch to reset the signs kinda takes some drama away, although I get why it's a necessity at times
I still really dislike the extra-inning runner generally, although I'm not sure that's really in the spirit of your question

What big name(s) get moved this off season that no one is talking about right now?
Anthony Franco
4:26
Ha if we think they're likely to move, we've already mentioned them in some capacity
4:27
Like the Hoskins/Rosario/Gleyber types
I think Willy Adames is a viable but very long-shot trade candidate

What would the Mariners need to give up for Jorge Polanco?
JL
4:28
What package does it take for the O's to get Woodruff
Anthony Franco
4:29
These specific "build a trade package from Team X for Player Y' questions are pretty much impossible
4:30
On Woodruff, I think you're looking at the Castillo/Berrios trades, plus. That's two top prospects. Not going to be Gunnar Henderson but I wouldn't consider the Brewers crazy for starting with a package around Gray-Rod
Baltimore probably doesn't do it. Could Milwaukee beat something built around Jackson Holliday and Jordan Westburg though? I think so
4:31
Polanco's got three years of cheap control, two via club option. Good hitter who can play the middle infield. Sneaky really strong trade value
4:32
Minnesota asking for Matt Brash and Harry Ford feels reasonable to me. Again not sure Seattle wants to go there, they've thinned out the system quite a bit

Can you see a case where the Astros bring back Yuli and also sign Jose Abreu and rotate Abreu at 1B/DH with Yuli and Yordan?
Anthony Franco
4:33
Abreu's going to go north of $20MM annually probably. If you're signing him, it's to play him every day

How much cash would the Yankees have to kick in to send Donaldson back to the A's, and would you bring popcorn to watch the announcement in Oakland?
Anthony Franco
4:34
Ha I believe that ship has sailed
Ok that's all I've got time for today
Thanks for all the questions, and thanks as always for supporting the site!
4:35
Feel free to throw stuff at me on Twitter, and we'll do this again next week
Just a heads up that I think we'll move these to Thursday evenings sometime soon. It just works better with a change to our coverage schedule
4:36
Not sure if that'll be as soon as next week, but just keep an eye out for that as well. Obviously the email's will continue to go out a few hours early so you can leave stuff in advance even if you can't participate live
Have a great weekend!
