Yeah they're a tricky one because they really could do anything. Simplest option would be to pivot to one of the top starters at that point. They'll need multiple starters anyways, so they could sign Burnes and bring Manaea back or something
4:54
I'd like Alonso a lot more there if the market collapses and he does the short-term, opt-out thing referenced earlier. Signing him for five or six years and either committing Vientos to playing a mediocre third base or locking up DH for that long isn't ideal

What do the yankees do in the rotation? Even if Cole stays, they have 2 top guys (Rodon and Cole), 2 okay guys (Stroman and Cortes) and 2 young guys (Gil and Schmidt). Does it make sense to trade cortes and trying to upgrade his spot? Or hope one of the young guys solidifies there spot
Anthony Franco
4:56
Should probably trade Stroman. Get out from next year's salary and the '26 vesting option. Give him a fresh start with a team that might still view him as a potential playoff starter
Nestor trade wouldn't shock me but I liked it more before his value took a big hit with the elbow injury in September

Since I’m paying$30 a year now, please answer my questions. What are your best guesses for Red Sox RH power acquisition and SP target?
Anthony Franco
4:57
Snell and Randal Grichuk? Could just bring O'Neill back too, though I wouldn't be excited at the expected price point myself
AL Central
4:57
With the White Sox likely very bad again next season, I'd think there is a strong possibility two WC's could come from the AL Central.  Detroit and KC essentially got in because they beat up on the White Sox more than the east and west did.  Both were barely over .500 taking away their games vs Chicago, and Cleveland's record wouldnt have changed much since somehow they were 'just' 8-5 vs Chi.  Gotta think the unbalenced scheduling is an enormous advantage for that division again next season.  Detroit has young players that started to find themselves a bit late last season, but I'm not sure they are really that good
Anthony Franco
4:58
All fair. I buy the Tigers a little more than the Royals -- though they'll obviously need to add in the rotation -- but getting to beat up on the Sox definitely helped
4:59
I also don't expect the White Sox to set the loss record again. They'll be atrocious, but probably in the 110-loss range instead of 121
Philly A's

How much is a home stadium a factor?  Ownership?  Hurting a fanbase by moving?  If the A's are going to spend (hard to believe that) does that factor in?
In one of the other chats there was a link to an Athletic.com article on rumors that the A's are spending 160m and raising it each year until Vegas?  And looks like Fisher's parents committed to the $1B needed for Vegas...  now he spends..
Anthony Franco

Very skeptical that the A's are actually about to push player into the $160MM range, but they should be active in the third or fourth tier of the rotation market. With literally nothing on the books, they could do a mid-level deal for two or three years on someone like Pivetta or Heaney
5:01
I doubt that the ownership situation matters that much -- John Fisher's money is as green as anyone else's -- but the stadium's a real issue. I'm sure there are some guys who consider it a complete non-starter. There'll be others who don't care at all
5:02
Playing in a minor league facility is alarming enough, but there's also the idea that Sacramento could play really hitter-friendly and work against a pitcher trying to rebuild his value with a guaranteed rotation spot

More than ever, teams are protective of their top prospects.  Still, they DO sometimes get traded.  Who do you feel are the two or three Top-100 prospects that may get traded this off-season?
Anthony Franco
5:03
Hmm, seems like the Mariners are going to move one of their top guys for offense. Feels like that was more or less Dipoto's implication when he talked about finding ways to improve without trading from the MLB rotation
5:05
Still think there's a chance the Padres bite the bullet on Ethan Salas and trade him for an ace. They need rotation help, are probably limited financially, and Preller's a wild man
Cubs could trade Kevin Alcantara for pitching if they don't move any of their established outfielders and Bellinger opts in
Chip

Please help me understand. With all the team friendly contracts that the Atlanta Braves have with their foundation how can they have salary cap issues ??
Anthony Franco
5:08
They've spent a ton of money on extensions. Even if they're mostly good value (because they have a lot of great players), it adds up. The luxury tax is also based on average annual value, so the backloaded deal for someone like Strider doesn't alleviate the tax number
5:09
I wouldn't call it an issue necessarily. They're up against it from a CBT perspective but it's because they've signed the majority of a really talented core for most of the decade. That's what most teams want to do
Phillies
5:09
Could we get Jordan Montgomery for Nick Castellanos?
Anthony Franco
5:10
Don't see the appeal for Arizona. They're taking on the $20MM salary for '26 and they've got McCarthy, Gurriel, Carroll and Thomas as a strong outfield
5:11
Guess they could do Castellanos as a full-time Joc replacement at DH, but I wouldn't want to assume the extra $17.5MM in salary to make that happen

Ignoring potential no trade clauses (and the fact that the Angels realistically shouldn't be trying to compete next year), would a trade framework of Reid Detmers and Anthony Rendon for Nolan Arenado work? Money owed to Rendon and Arenado on their current contracts is about the same, though Rendon has a higher AAV and one less year.
Anthony Franco
5:12
I wouldn't consider Detmers interesting enough to do that if I were St. Louis
5:14
Rendon is a complete liability at this point. Even if the Cards release him right after the trade, they're taking on a lot more money in a '26 season where they could reload while giving up the better player in Arenado
5:15
I see the argument for it if you think Detmers is a mid-rotation arm with a couple tweaks. I've never been a huge fan though. Feels like more like a fifth starter or an up-and-down guy, as he was the bulk of this year

If the Rangers trade Leody Taveras, which teams might be interested, and what kind of a return would the Rangers get?
Anthony Franco
5:18
Pirates, Giants and Mets could all work there. Angels if they want to move Trout off CF and the Rangers are willing to trade in division. Phillies perhaps, though they might not consider him enough of an upgrade on a similar player in Johan Rojas
5:19
Yankees too if Soto walks and they want to move Judge to RF
5:20
Wouldn't be a huge return coming off the year he had, but he's relatively cheap and controllable for three seasons so there'd be moderate interest
Alright I need to call it here

Thanks for all the questions this week! As always, you can throw stuff at me @affranco10 on X if I didn't get to yours in here
