Any chance Dipoto would consider trading JP Crawford?  If the M’s did snag Bogaerts or one of the other three stud  shortstops,  I’m wondering what kind of return the Mariners could get for Crawford in a trade, especially if he was packaged with a starting pitcher, like Flexen or Marco G.  What teams might match up on paper?
Anthony Franco
3:39
I'd be stunned if they trade JP the way they talk about him. Dipoto raves about his defense and clubhouse leadership any chance he gets
3:40
Diamondbacks, White Sox, Tigers, Orioles all make some sense to me if that happened, but I can't see any chance the Mariners consider it

The pitcher throws the ball and it lands in the dirt at home plate and the ball is tossed out immediately. A ground ball to shortstop, across dirt and grass, is given back to the pitcher, to use, after being tossed around the horn.  Why one and not the other?  Who has the advantage of a ball in the dirt at home plate?  Pitcher or Batter?
Anthony Franco
3:40
Ha I have no idea. I assume it's some kind of superstition?
Dodger Dave

Adames and Bournes for Lux Miller Vargas Cartaya Pepiot -- Who says no?
Anthony Franco

Dodgers

What's a realist expectation for a Michael Conforto contract? Is he a reasonable starting OF for a team like the White Sox?
Anthony Franco
3:41
We have Conforto at 1/15. I liked him closer to 10, maybe with some incentives that could boost it a few million
Viable enough for Chicago, sure. Would probably be their biggest offseason move though

Let me rephrase my previous question (LOL)… now that’s Click gone, if you were to land the Astors GM job, what free agents do you aggressivley pursue?
Anthony Franco
3:43
Andrew Chafin or maybe an Aaron Loup trade to add a left-hander to the bullpen. First base is the big position player need, wouldn't love going to four years on Bell or anything but José Abreu makes sense over a shorter term

3:43
To clarify on my earlier question re Giants trade options maybe "impact player" was misunderstood. Not talking All Star but a regular who caan plug a hole for a year or two.
Anthony Franco
3:44
Oh ok, yeah I misunderstood. Sure, I think you could pull in a viable regular by dealing from the middle of the farm system or parting with a Yaz type
3:45
If the Giants decided to plug third base by trading for Gio Urshela or someone like that, they could do it without coming anywhere near the guys you wanted to pull off the table
Brandon Marsh

I've heard varying metrics on his defense. Some public metrics peg him as average and I've seen some articles about him in the Athletic saying that as well. But I also remember hearing someone from MLBTR during the trade deadline saying that he was pretty easily above average in the field and that his play there was really his calling card, making even average hitting bearable. Is he good or what?
Anthony Franco
3:45
Excellent left fielder. Probably more of a scratch defender in center where the bar's higher, but average center field defense is valuable
3:46
With the free agent CF class barren as it is, the ability to play a solid if not elite CF was presumably a huge part of the appeal for the Phillies in making that trade

Is Max Kepler for Danny Jansen a workable framework? Who needs to add additional pieces?
Anthony Franco
3:47
I don't think Kepler's moving the needle for Jansen from the Jays perspective
Someone in here suggested Kepler for Teoscar, which I think actually works quite well
3:48
Guessing if the Twins wanted Jansen, they'd have to wait for Toronto to flip one of Teoscar or Lourdes elsewhere before putting forward Kepler plus a rotation depth piece or something
Dbacks
3:48
A dark horse for Contreras?
Anthony Franco
3:48
Sure. Tim picked them as his Contreras landing spot, I believe
3:49
I think they're likelier to spread things around to address the bullpen, DH and catcher but they do have some money to spend and a need at catcher, so I wouldn't be surprised if this happens

3:49
Assume that we trade Donaldson for cash considerations (basically nothing in return). How much of his salary would we have to pay down? 10 mil? 15? 20?
Anthony Franco
3:49
He's due $27MM for one year, including the buyout of a 2023 option
3:50
We just saw the Giants pass on Evan Longoria, who's less durable but a similarly skilled player, at $8MM
3:51
I think that's about where Donaldson would be viable. $7-8MM. So yeah, the Yankees pay down between $15-20MM probably

Thanks for hosting the chat and the Top 50 FA. I think DeGrom's injury history is too much risk for a team with a smaller revenue base. Putting 1/4 to 1/3 of your total budget to a player with his injury history takes some sharp figuring to use a phrase. Would DeGrom (and the Cardinals/Guardians, Braves, etc) entertain a front loaded offer with a TEAM option after 1 year? Perhaps a team after 1 year and DeGrom an option after year 2? More money for the 1st year in hand and opportunity to establish a good performance base for another bite after year 2.
Anthony Franco
3:51
Nah that's basically what he just had with the Mets and he opted out of it after barely pitching between 2021-22
3:52
He's going to get more than one guaranteed year, probably three-plus. If anything it'd be more likely to give him another opt-out chance if we're baking in options
Timbo

Is Michael Brantley a fit for the Brewers or is he out of their price range?
Anthony Franco
3:53
Well I picked Milwaukee for Brantley on the top 50, so I'm with you. I like the fit quite a bit

Does Gabriel Moreno + Addison Barger for Corbin Carroll work?
Anita
3:54
Hi Anthony, for below trade scenarios which one do you think is the best move for the Jays and which one is the most likely using catcher surplus and additionals?  Also what are the chances of signing Verlander.   1) Varsho from Diamondback, 2) Nootbar and Edman from Cardinals, 3) Reynolds and Bednar from Pirates, 4) Lopez for Kirk (1-1) from Marlins or 5) Greene for Moreno (1-1) from Tigers... Thanks Anita
Anthony Franco
3:54
I don't think Arizona would move Carroll, no
3:55
Moreno/Varsho or Moreno/Greene are interesting concepts and I think it's fair to prefer either player, but teams usually love their own young players enough they can't agree on a swap like that
3:57
As for Anita's other proposals, I don't see Pittsburgh trading Reynolds/Bednar in the same deal (or at all). Edman/Nootbaar for Moreno-plus could make some sense in a vacuum but isn't a deal you really ever see in practice. I wouldn't give up Kirk for Pablo, but I think Miami would take that, yeah

When do you think De La Cruz and Marte might debut for the Reds?
