I'd let Miller be the best reliever in baseball but would give Morejon another rotation shot if he's interested in it
4:06
I still think he'd be a good starter on talent. And while it sounds callous, it's not as disastrous for the Padres if he blows out again when he's a year away from free agency as it would be if Miller got hurt when he's under club control for four seasons
4:07
Obviously real risk going that route but he's gotten through consecutive healthy seasons and would have a lot higher earning potential as a free agent if he does hold up as a starter for a year, so I could see that being one worth taking for player and team

Likely hood that the Sox trade Edgar Quero?
Anthony Franco
4:07
Eh, Getz already downplayed it and he and Teel are fine splitting catcher and DH
Luc
4:08
Bader a good idea for the Giants?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Yeah if they can get him for two years, go for it. Plenty of space to go around in that outfield for him and JHL. No answer in RF right now and Ramos is coming off a pretty underwhelming season
4:10
I'd be out on Bader if he gets three years and pushes close to $40M -- I don't think he's a particularly good hitter -- but two years for a slightly below-average bat who can really run it down out there, sure

Related to the Free Agent Contest: Will you publish a “consensus” list with the most common contestant choices for players? Example: “Kyle Tucker: 1. X% Dodgers, 2. Y% Blue Jays, 3. Z% Pirates” I think that would be a fun read to able to see it all in one place, and I wonder how accurate the consensus list would be.

4:11
I'll ask Tim about this but I don't know if we have an easy way to summarize it on the back end

4:11
Hi Anthony. Since the Giants have been linked to both Verlander and Scherzer what do you think of the chances they double down on the OG and sign both of them?
Anthony Franco
4:13
Too much for me. One of them makes sense, especially if it's paired with a Ray trade, but bringing them both in behind Webb isn't raising the ceiling of the rotation the way they need to
Erik Neander
4:14
What should my boldest trade be this offseason?
Anthony Franco
4:14
(Rays)
4:15
Trading Baz for an outfielder? Guess you could argue for Rasmussen instead but I'm kind of out on the Shane Baz experience
4:16
Not going to advocate for trading Caminero or something though

4:16
Has Twins ownership really not told Derek Falvey what the 2026 payroll range is yet?
Anthony Franco
4:17
Teams say that thing all the time. I assume it's technically true that they don't have a set number right now but they have a general idea of where it's going to land
4:18
Last year, they did nothing for four months and ownership signed off on them spending $10M for Bader, Coulombe and France in the middle of February
4:19
Probably true that the front office didn't know if that'd be possible in December, but it's also not much money in the MLB free agent landscape

Assuming one way or another A Garcia and Heim are gone and you have 45 million to spend. You need contact hitters, a power bat, back up or co catcher, 1-2 SP and 3-4 Bp arms what is a reasonable shopping list.
Anthony Franco
4:21
Arraez, Bassitt, Ryan Jeffers, Shawn Armstrong back plus a couple middle relievers
Los Doyers
4:21
What Upgrades do you see the Dodgers doing this winter ? Will get Ward get an opportunity to crack the opening day roster as a 4/5 outfielder ?
Anthony Franco
4:23
Late-game relief, probably a trade for a LF (e.g. Kwan, Nootbaar, Wallner). Don't see why Ward wouldn't be in the mix for Opening Day. Not like he's got anything left to show them in OKC

It sounds like the Royals are counting in Cags to be their strong side platoon in right field next year. After his horrible performance in both at the plate and in the field in 2025, that seems like a risky proposition to me.
Anthony Franco
4:25
It is but it's also kind of inevitable. They don't have any even league average outfielders and a mid-market team isn't going to fix that all in one offseason

4:25
If I lose Josh Naylor in free agency, and I'm afraid of Murakami's strikeout and whiff rate, would Okamoto be a decent first base fit for the Mariners this offseason?  Or, would retaining Eugenio Suarez and moving him to 1st make sense?
Anthony Franco
4:26
I'd rather make a run at Okamoto or sign O'Hearn than move Geno over there if Naylor walks
pinstripe9
4:26
what is anhony Volpe trade value?
Anthony Franco
4:27
Low coming off shoulder surgery that's going to have him on the injured list to begin the season. Would be stunned if the Yankees move him this offseason
Rangers13
4:28
Would J Smith be enough to get Santana from Pittsburg or Romero from Cards. Of those two who is best choice?
Anthony Franco
4:29
Yeah either of those teams would jump on Smith for the rental reliever. Can't see Texas doing it but if you really wanted of those guys, I'd rather have Santana than Romero
Thank you for the chat!
4:29
Should Yanks extend Jazz and move him back to CF?
Anthony Franco
4:31
I'd lean no on both. They'll probably get one of Grisham or Bellinger back anyway
Giants fan
4:31
Greg Johnson recently said the giants probably wouldn't sign anyone pitchers to long term contracts. With the cba ending dec 2026 wouldn't it be prudent to sign guys for 3 yrs instead. The giants definitely have some defensive needs too. Any thoughts on what they might do or the direction they might go?
Anthony Franco
4:32
Yeah Zack Minasian kind of said that too. I don't really buy it
4:33
They've got so much payroll space that unless they're using it on Tucker or Bichette, they should be prepared to spend on a top-of-the-market starter. Yes, there's injury risk, but running it back with a few mid-tier starters behind Webb feels like a recipe for finishing .500 again
4:34
Alright, we're past 90 minutes so I'm going to wrap here
4:35
Thanks for all the questions, as always! Feel free to throw anything else at me on X @affranco10 and I'll get back to you over the weekend
4:36
Will probably need to keep next Friday's right around an hour with the NT deadline but we'll see how busy that is in the afternoon
