Maybe something similar to last year's Teoscar trade? Deal a reliever like Topa and a Dominic Canzone type if the Yankees want big league ready help?
Thank you for the chat!
4:30
Does it make more sense for the Yanks to target someone like Yamamoto on the free agent market then leverage trades for outfield?
Anthony Franco
4:30
Sure but there are a bunch of teams targeting Yamamoto and only one of them gets him
Dave
4:30
Cease for Stone and Hurt who says no
Anthony Franco
4:30
White Sox can do better
Question Mark
4:30
How do the salaries...that are paid down by the Mets on Verlander and Scherzer...count against their payroll and in turn against their tax?
Anthony Franco
4:31
The money that New York retains still counts against their CBT number

4:31
Do you think Shohei will have signed somewhere by Thanksgiving? Christmas?
Anthony Franco
4:32
Christmas, yes. I'd be surprised if he's signed by Thanksgiving. Would still guess the Winter Meetings but it's hard to tell since he apparently has no interest in letting anyone in on the process

There have been a lot of rumors, are the Brewers in a full tear down mode? I believe one of the reasons Stearns and Counsell left is the knowledge that the owner was going to cut back on the roster.
Anthony Franco
4:33
No I don't think they're rebuilding. That's just not how they've operated under Attanasio or the Stearns/Arnold front offices
4:34
Could trade Adames and non-tender or deal Woodruff without tanking their chances of competing in 2024
Awards
4:34
Hi Anthony. Now that both leagues are playing under the same rules and all teams are playing against each other, do you see MLB moving to one overall award per category or are there a lot of top placement incentives in player contracts?
Anthony Franco
4:35
I've never thought about it like that. I don't think they will do this, but you're right that if we were starting from scratch, there'd be no reason to differentiate between leagues. It's not like the NHL names a Western Conference MVP or whatever
But I think inertia probably just keeps the awards the way they are

What's the likelihood of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Pittsburgh Pirates teaming up for a trade involving Ke'Bryan Hayes? If not was is the best sound fit for a 3B in Arizona, with the mentality of still having excellent defense?
Anthony Franco
4:37
I don't see why Pittsburgh would entertain moving Hayes. Even if he's "only" a very good defender and average hitter, that's a solid player -- one they've already signed to a cheap long-term deal. Can't rebuild forever
Bruce

Still perplexed you predicted Matt Chapman to the Phillies.  Why are they trading Bohm to spend way too much on an old hitter who struggled last year?  This was to me your the worst pick by anyone on your staff in the entire list.
Anthony Franco
4:38
Bohm's a minus defender at third and hasn't taken the expected step forward offensively. I don't think he should be a regular on a team that has legitimate World Series aspirations
4:39
I will say that I'd probably flip the Chapman pick now after the revelation that Harper's a full-time first baseman. If they'd kept him in the outfield, they could have rotated Bohm through the corner infield as a bench bat if they added Chapman. Not really a possibility anymore

Why should I support the TWINS? They seem anemic to me and Detroit will be on their heels with a freshly bunch of kids coming out of a deep rebuild and ready to win. The TWINS are weak, to me.
Anthony Franco
4:40
Haha are you deciding this offseason which AL Central team is going to be your favorite?
4:41
I like Detroit but the Twins have more depth on the position player side. Agree the Tigers are narrowing the gap, but I'd still take Minnesota as the best team in that division
Rule 5 Question
4:42
The deadline for protecting players from the Rule 5 Draft is a couple weeks before the Draft. For eligible players who were NOT protected in time, can they be added to the 40-man roster between those dates? Or doesn’t it really matter because if they were added in that window, they could still be drafted. Just wondering why it’s such a big gap between the dates.
Anthony Franco
4:42
Can't add those players to the 40 anymore until the draft
4:43
Not sure why they set the gap at three weeks. Best guess is it's just to give teams a little time to set their preference lists
Wouldn't want to have the draft within a day or two of when teams are informed which players will be available in it

Thanks for the Chat Anthony. As a big old Cubs fan do you see them start filling the holes soon? We need a first baseman and a third baseman. Wisdom should be gone as he either hits it out of the park or strikes out. Bullpen needs re adjusting too.
Anthony Franco
4:45
Agree with all of these. Maybe Morel and Mervis can handle first base but they need to add at least one corner infielder and a couple relievers

Mets fans need to know... Vogelbach gone?
Anthony Franco
4:46
I'd be really surprised if he were back
Oscar Gamble
4:46
Who’s the biggest surprise that’ll be non-tendered?
Anthony Franco
4:47
We put the guys we thought were realistic non-tender possibilities in here
Yankees non-tendering one of Higashioka or Trevino seems possible. Not sure if that'd be a surprise to Yankee fans

Hi Anthony... What about a Jays trade with the Twins - Santiago Espinal, MItch White & Yosver Zulueta for Jorge Polanco & Kyle Farmer.  Saves the Twins some payroll and give them pitching options and Jays get 2nd/3rd base with Polanco and a better power version of Espi in Kyle Farmer.
Another possibility for the Jays is  Lane Thomas OF (Nationals)  for Addison Barger & Otto Lopez
Anthony Franco
4:49
I don't think Toronto's giving up enough in the Twins one. Something involving Barger and Lane Thomas would be interesting if Washington thinks he's a regular at third base. Probably need a better secondary piece than Otto Lopez though

Explain to fans why there's any reason to be excited about the team spending money on the likes of Wacha or Lugo... Is either really an upgrade over Tommy Henry and Slade Cecconi? Feels like Arizona should spend of AAA depth signings to prepare for injuries and put the money into their new core like Moreno or Pfaadt extensions.

Is it really worth giving up the price for Corbin Burnes when the goal is to contend beyond Gallen's tenure? Why try to emulate the Padres in going after a big name at the cost of the top of the farm? AZ isn't deep in good talent in the Minors...
