On the first question: yeah, I think Wacha and Lugo are both better pitchers than Henry or Cecconi. Moreno and Pfaadt are early enough in their careers that signing one of the mid-tier free agent starters isn't going to deal a huge blow to their chances of working out an extension
4:52
Tend to agree on Burnes. It's one year of a pitcher they're almost certainly not going to extend, so it'd be putting a lot of eggs in one basket

Which playoff team currently will have the hardest time getting into the playoffs next year?
Anthony Franco

I'd take Miami. Wasn't a great team to begin with, lost Alcantara, Mets could be more competitive

If a club holds two club options and both of them have a buyout price (Aaron bummer), does the player receive both buyouts if the club declines the first option?
Anthony Franco

Just the first buyout

on the Padres bullpen…. If there’s no chance of re-signing Hader, do you think they will add a new face or work with what they’ve got?  I know cost cutting has been a stated priority but things there must be in some turmoil. Thanks!

They'll add, it'll just be more affordable additions to the middle innings. Have to replace the Luis García innings as well. Even if Suarez moves to the ninth, they'd need high-leverage help before that (particularly if they trade Barlow)
4:56
I highly doubt Hader's coming back but if they threw two years at $8MM apiece for Hector Neris or something, that seems reasonable

Hey Anthony! What do you think about an infield of Chapman-Swanson-Hoerner-Hoskins?
Anthony Franco

Hoskins/Chapman are both good fits. Wouldn't be super stoked about the kind of investment it takes to get Chapman long term but he's a clear upgrade there for the next season or two

How does this years free agent starting pitcher class compare to next years?
Anthony Franco
4:59
I think it's a little better because of Yamamoto. Burnes/Glasnow probably offer a little more high-end talent than this year's group of top MLB starters, but the current class feels a little deeper
We'll see how it plays out though. A full season from Walker Buehler would vault him near the top. At this time last year, I'd have had Montgomery more in the Taijuan Walker/Jameson Taillon tier than a $100MM type. Platform matters a ton

Between an unproven Nolan Schanuel and a proven, but injury-recovering, Vin Pasquantino, who should be my first baseman?
Anthony Franco

I'd take Vinnie
Alright, I have to cut this one off here as mentioned

I'm off next Thursday and Friday so we'll move that chat to sometime on Wednesday afternoon as well
