Can't see the union ever agreeing to it because it's not good for players having that kind of restriction
3:24
I also don't see the offseason pace as a problem, although I understand why fans disagree. Selfishly, the idea of jamming everything that happens in the offseason into one week seems horrible
3:25
It'd make the offseasons function more like the lockout winter, which was a miserable work experience. Nothing to write about for three and a half months bookended by two-week stretches where we were almost afraid to go to sleep in case we'd miss a huge signing haha

Being a Dodger fan I’m leery of signing Otani or anyone for the amount and length it will take to sign him.  I think Dodgers could sign multiple players to help them.  I would like Joe Kelly back.  He is a fan favorite and I find it amusing that 9 million scares the Dodgers away when it will take approximately 500 million to sign Otani.  Your thoughts?
Anthony Franco
3:26
Something like $8-9MM on Kelly seems fine. The peripherals were good, plenty of high-leverage experience
3:27
I don't think he's related to Ohtani at all. Makes sense the Dodgers wouldn't want to commit borderline market value to a reliever on day one of the offseason but I think he'll end up back around the option value that the Dodgers declined (could be with L.A. again)

Does either Snell or Hader stay in SD or are they now to expensive? Without SD unloading salary.
Anthony Franco
3:28
Can't see it, especially on Hader
I think five years on Robert Suarez was a preemptive "closer-in-waiting" move. The rotation need is big enough that they'll probably stay in touch with Snell but there's so much smoke around the payroll stuff that it's hard to see how they make that work

How long will Gunnar be the SS for the Orioles?  Thank you
Anthony Franco
3:29
May 1?
3:30
I expect Holliday up there early and assume Gunnar moves to third while Holliday stays at short
Spirited
3:30
Who do you think are the top 5 catchers in the game?
Anthony Franco
3:32
Off the cuff: Adley, Will Smith, Murphy, Realmuto, Raleigh
3:33
Could go a lot of different ways in that last spot. Either Contreras brother, Jonah Heim, Danny Jansen perhaps
Jays
3:33
Shouldn't the Jays be focused on Jung Hoo Lee given Springer's declining skills and not much else waiting in the wings?
Barger can play 3rd, Biggio / Schneider can play 2nd.
Anthony Franco
3:34
Lee's a decent fit. Would probably prioritize offense in the corner and move Varsho over to center, but if the Jays' scouts think Lee's a plus hitter, then he works in left
Yankees
3:34
Remember when the Stanton trade was a coup? Not so much. Handcuffed their ability to do other things.
Anthony Franco
3:35
It's not like Miami got anything useful back, but yeah, the contract has aged horribly
Paul K
3:35
Does three years at $45MM with opt in/out options (maybe not as complicated as Chad Green) make sense in general, and in particular for the Jays with Kikuchi coming off the books after 2024?
Anthony Franco
3:36
Not sure who this is referring to, if you're still in here Paul
Bnickles127
3:36
who are the most realistic trade targets available for the mariners to add some length and thump to lineup since they are scared of just signing a bat and keeping their prospects
John Stanton
3:36
Should I have Jerry Di sign a couple of mid-level FA pitchers and then trade from our strength to acquire some bats? Especially since I won't pay for Ohtani
Anthony Franco
3:37
Middling free agent class for offense could have a knock-on impact on the trade market. Tougher to give up a decent hitter if you're not enthused about the options to backfill in free agency
3:38
India makes sense there. They'd be a great fit if the Rays put Arozarena on the market. Mentioned the Twins guys already
Angel Fan
3:39
When can we expect Roki Sasaki to hit MLB?
Anthony Franco
3:40
Probably not until like 2029
3:41
No real incentive for the Marines to post him within the next couple years. He'd have to wait until after he turns 25 to even try to angle his way out because his earning power would otherwise be capped by the international bonus pool restrictions
Giants' fan
3:41
No love for Patrick Bailey? His defense seems pretty outstanding (but his bat is questionable).
Anthony Franco
3:42
It's within the range of outcomes but need more consistent offense to get to that star catcher tier
3:43
I like Bailey but he's a fringe top 10 catcher for me right now
Jeremy
3:43
Jays-Padres a good trade fit? A cheaper starter (Manoahor Tiedemann) for a bat? (Soto) As a basic framework
Anthony Franco
3:45
Don't think either Manoah or Tiedemann would headline a Soto return but I could see either as a secondary piece. Still doubt San Diego moves him at all though
RAGBRAI
3:45
What’s the biggest move you see the Brewers making? Is SP now their biggest need?
Anthony Franco
3:46
Rotation and first base are the big concerns. Jake Bauers and Owen Miller can't be the primary options there
3:47
Easier to find cheap first baseman in free agency. Still think they should look to move Wiemer for rotation help this offseason
Dewey
3:47
How does the Suarez acquisition affect Lawler?
Anthony Franco
3:48
Don't think it matters much. Lawlar was probably going to start next season in Triple-A anyways. Once he's ready, they can kick Geno to DH or a bench role
Ryan
3:48
Seth Lugo seems to be a good for for the Reds. However,  he pitched way more innings last year than he had in several years. Do you think this is a concern?
Anthony Franco
3:49
Not really. Obviously the role was different and he mostly held up this year
