O's!
3:32
Who do the Orioles have to trade to bring Devin Williams or Ryan Helsley to Baltimore?
Anthony Franco
3:35
Anyone below the Mayo, Basallo, Kjerstad group seems like fair game. I'd be most intrigued by Beavers probably. Honeycutt will be divisive but maybe St. Louis or Milwaukee thinks he'll be able to make enough contact to let the rest of the tools play
Ryan Red-leg
3:35
Do you think a Spencer Steer for Jake Mccarthy trade makes sense for both  teams?
Anthony Franco
3:37
I like it but I think I'm a little higher on Steer and a bit lower on McCarthy than consensus. I don't think the Diamondbacks would actually do it with McCarthy coming off the superior season
Neil
3:37
Bigger Braves need? Fried and/or Morton replacement or Arcia upgrade at SS.
Anthony Franco
3:39
Rotation for me. Ideally they'd do both but they could live with Arcia as the biggest weak point in an otherwise strong lineup. The current rotation would get bad quickly if one of Sale, López or Schwellenbach goes down before Strider comes back
Chuck
3:39
The Orioles and the Nationals share a RSN which hasn't worked out well, though for reasons that probably don't apply to any other possible combinations. Is there any reason to hope that gets straightened out anytime soon?
Anthony Franco
3:40
Yeah this is true. Not really what the questioner proposed, as you note, since this was kinda thrust upon the teams by MLB as a condition of the Expos' relocation. The one example we have of teams sharing the RSN hasn't provided a ringing endorsement though

3:41
Can a team extend an international draftee right after they sign him?
Anthony Franco
3:41
No
Greg D
3:41
What do you think the chances are of Luzardo being traded? I could see a team that strikes out on Crochet making a deal.
Anthony Franco
3:42
Eh, I don't really see it. Others on staff are higher on it as a possibility though, which is why Luzardo made our top 10 trade candidates at the start of the offseason
3:43
I just assume the Marlins would prefer to wait and hope he reestablishes his health going into the deadline. They'll get interest this offseason, but if he turns in two and a half good months, he's probably the league's biggest deadline trade chip. I'd rather chase the upside than cut my losses this winter
Danny Jansen
3:43
Has my market outlook improved after the Travis d'Arnaud signing so early in the off season?  He even went to a team that most didn't have in the market for a 1-b type catcher since O'Hoppe was already there
Anthony Franco
3:45
Guess there could be a small boost but TDA wasn't even expected to be available until a couple days before free agency opened since the Braves had implied they were going to pick up his option
3:46
I wouldn't move off the 2/20 we predicted for Jansen at the start of the winter. Would change my Guardians pick, whoops
Steve M
3:46
Are the Twins sunk in 2025? They act small when they are mid market. It's ridiculous with all the money Pohlads have.
Anthony Franco
3:47
Yeah it's been a frustrating couple offseasons. The expected ownership change could provide some hope in a year or two
3:48
I don't think they're sunk for next season. There's a lot of in-house talent and they were a likely playoff team for about 5.5 months last year. But it looks like it'll be another quiet winter where they go in with an 85-win roster and hope that variance pushes them to 88-90
Middle of the order bat
3:49
Mike Rizzo said he would get one. But who are the likeliest options?
Anthony Franco
3:50
Alonso or Christian Walker seem like the best fits. Obvious need for a first baseman and a pretty good class at the position. Guess Goldy could work there too, but I'd expect the Nats to aim higher
Question re MegaDeal
3:51
Can a team ever void a contract if a player suffers injury that must end their career? Say best player in MLB, Jimmy Superstar signs a 15-year contract for eleventy billion dollars with the New Angeles Spenders. In his first year with the Spenders, he tragically suffers a career ending injury and can never play again. Despite this, Jimmy wants his eleventy billion dollars, so he refuses to retire. Are the Spenders forced to just put him on the IL every year for the rest of his contract and pay him the eleventy billion dollars? or can they void it?
Anthony Franco
3:51
No, MLB contracts are fully guaranteed. Teams can insure some or all of a contract to mitigate some of the risk, but the player's getting the money
3:52
This basically happened with Prince Fielder actually
Virginia S
3:52
Is Profar coming back any news on him?
Anthony Franco
3:53
Pretty quiet there so far. I think he could price himself out of San Diego if he wanted to but wouldn't be surprised if he took a slight discount to stay. He clearly loves it there
Cat Herder
3:53
It's March 1st.  Are the last two Detroit 1:1 picks (Mize and Tork) still with the team?
Anthony Franco
3:54
I'll say yes to both but they're probably down to their last opportunity there
Greg D
3:54
Are the New Angeles Spenders a potential landing spot for Soto?
Anthony Franco
3:54
Mystery team!
Farhan Zaidi
3:54
I have got a lot of free time on my hands.  Do you see me getting another POBO/GM opportunity ?
Anthony Franco
3:56
He'll be back in the mix in a year or two if he wants another crack at it. Use a #2 or #3 front office position as a springboard to interviews
Love the podcast
3:56
You always sound unexcited on them. Like Darragh had to call you down from your room to talk to guests.
Anthony Franco
3:57
Feels like there's a disconnect between the name and feedback haha
3:58
I never sound excited about anything tbh

Will Bregman really get more than 6/151? That seemed like an overpay at the time
Anthony Franco
3:59
I think so. He's better and younger than Chapman, a superior hitter to the mid-tier shortstops who get paid in that range (i.e. Dansby, Story)
He had a horrible April but was really good for the last five months of the season. He should do well
4:00
Ken Rosenthal wrote earlier this week that he thought Bregman could look for a deal closer to $350MM Machado extension. That one, well...

Do you have any thoughts on what the giants might do. It was announced recently that the giants would be decreasing payroll. I can't possibly see how that would help the stated goal of the giants becoming competitive again. The team makeup as is is a 4th place team.
