Hey everyone, hope you're finishing up a good week!
Looking forward to our last pre-offseason chat

I was going to ask if the Astros should drop Verlander from the World Series rotation given his record, but oops, never mind LOL.....
Anthony Franco
3:59
Ha yeah that would've been ill-advised
Chris Young
3:59
What are my chances of wooing Kershaw to return home to Texas?
Anthony Franco
4:00
Feel like only Kershaw knows the answer to that. My guess is he sticks in L.A.

If you were Chris Young, which catchers on the roster would you keep and who would you trade? Currently that list is Heim, Garver, Plawecki, Huff and Villoria? Cubs will need a catcher, so would one of these + 1, (4-10) prospect and 2 from the 20-30 range bring back Happ and or Hendricks?
Anthony Franco
4:01
Plawecki's a free agent. Viloria's depth, doesn't move the needle
Huff probably eventually moves off catcher. Heim feels like the long-term guy there. Can keep Garver around as a backup/DH option but I'd explore offers on him this winter
Rangers13
4:01
Would Taveras, Heim, LeClerc, Duran, and D. Harris be enough for Woodruff? If not what more would need to be added? If the Rangers wanted Renfroe as well would anything need to be added?
Anthony Franco
4:02
No that's really not close. That kind of quantity-over-quality package doesn't get you star players with multiple years of control
4:03
Things to like about all of them, particularly LeClerc and Heim. But you'd need to center a Woodruff package around a guy with more impact upside. An Evan Carter or Jack Leiter type to start with
Expos
4:03
Can you talk about what we might expect from two rookies in their sophomore year next year: Brayan Bello and Michael Massey. Thanks.
Anthony Franco
4:05
Bello still has options. Wipeout stuff, spotty control. Probably starts the year in Worcester but there should be enough uncertainty on the Red Sox's staff he gets a rotation shot at some point. Feels like pre-2021 Dylan Cease to me
You see the flashes of upside but there's not a whole lot of start-to-start consistency yet
4:06
I like Massey as an everyday second baseman in KC. Good defender, has a bit of pull-side power. A little aggressive but think there's enough physical ability to be an average player
His approach is aggressive, I mean. He swings a lot
I don't know him as a person. I'm sure he's nice

Any chance Rizzo ends up in Milwaukee? If so what happens to Tellez? If not where does he end up in your best guess?
Anthony Franco
4:07
I like the fit from a roster perspective but I can't see them giving up a draft pick and paying like $20MM annually to a first baseman. Payroll's too cluttered
4:08
Back to the Yankees makes the most sense to me. Astros work, could be the big offseason splash for the Marlins
Fansby

Chances Braves resign Swanson?
Anthony Franco
4:08
35%?
4:09
I'd take the field at this point but Atlanta over any other specific team
Brian
4:09
Rank these predictions in the order of their likelihood:
  • Correa to LAD
  • Turner to PHI
  • Swanson to ATL
  • Bogaerts to CHC
Anthony Franco
4:09
Dansby, Correa, Trea, Bogaerts probably. They all kind of make sense
4:10
I know Correa/Dodgers have the sign-stealing thing and maybe that matters, but I think fans would care a lot more than the front office. I don't love the Phillies as a fit for one of the shortstops the same way most people do but I get the logic behind it
Vegas Lee
4:10
Any word yet that the LA Angels plan to retain Mike Trout and Shoei Ohtani for next season - Lee, Las Vegas
Anthony Franco
4:11
Would be stunned if they're not both Angels on Opening Day
Crazy trade idea
4:11
Woodruff and Burnes for Vlad and Moreno
Anthony Franco
4:11
Can't see the Jays doing this

Obviously, this is the time for the Angels to trade Shohei Ohtani. With one full season of control and giving a team that much time to negotiate an extension with the return to the Angels being much greater than it would be at the next trade deadline.
Since Arte Moreno appears to be selling is it natural to squeeze as much money out of the club without regard for the future health of the organization? Trading Ohtani appears to be the best way to add some new young talent to the organization. This would make the organization more attractive to potential buyers. Even with Ohtani I don’t see the Angels contending even for the Wild Cards.
Anthony Franco
4:12
I think Moreno would disagree with your premise. It's not like Ohtani's under long-term contract, and there's probably a fair bit of appeal to another owner in having the freedom to talk extension if they want
4:13
If Moreno felt that moving Ohtani for prospects would be the most attractive course of action for buyers, why would he take him off the market last summer?

It does appear that the Red Sox will have to face Xander Bogaerts opting for free agency.  Do you think that means
Continuation.  does that mean that Bogaerts will be playing somewhere else in 2023:
Anthony Franco
4:14
Doesn't inherently mean he signs elsewhere. They can and will still keep in touch even after he officially opts out
But to your general question, yeah I think he'll go to the highest bidder and it will be a team other than the Red Sox

You have to give credit to Houston. They keep rebuilding and have a real dynasty. I would like to see dusty baker get a ribg
Anthony Franco
4:15
I really don't have a rooting interest in the series itself, besides wanting it to go to a seventh game. But yeah, what the Astros have done the past few years is really incredible
