Even if you want to take 2017 away from them (which I would not), getting to five straight ALCS appearances in an era of expanded postseasons where juggernaut teams get upset all the time is pretty remarkable

If the Phillies decline their option on Jean Segura, what teams might be interested and what kind of deal would he end with in free agency?
Anthony Franco
4:17
White Sox are the cleanest fit for me. Phillies could bring him back for cheaper. Angels make sense, Mariners fit on paper but I wonder if that bridge is burned after the trade
grover
4:17
When do the A's get a team chat?
Anthony Franco
4:18
Have to ask Steve. That's his chat. Within the next couple weeks at some point, but I don't know specifically
Steve's been leading our work on the Top 50 free agents list, so he's set aside the outlook stuff for the past couple weeks. Once the FA list comes out next week, we'll finish up the outlook series

Who would be a good back-end starter for the Nats to pick up, not just only for innings but for influence/coaching ability like we heard about this year with Robbie Ray and the Mariners young staff?
Anthony Franco
4:20
Not sure Greinke will leave K.C. but he'd be interesting if he does. Kyle Gibson could make sense in that kind of role, maybe Johnny Cueto
Arthur Dent
4:20
Assuming the Astros close out the WS with a win, any chance Verlander retires on a high note?  Hard to see him passing up a truckload of cash but…
Anthony Franco
4:21
Nah, he's talked before about wanting to play to 45. I don't think it's even about money (although that can't hurt) so much as testing himself and strengthening his all-time legacy
4:22
He also told reporters last week that while he's not actively looking ahead to free agency, he's "intrigued moving forward" about that process again
Artie moreno
4:22
who do you see us signing
Anthony Franco
4:22
(Angels)
4:23
A left fielder: Haniger or Brantley maybe. A mid-tier reliever to fill the Archie Bradley role and if they don't trade for a shortstop, then someone like Elvis Andrus
Rangers Hopeful
4:23
Do you foresee moving seager off short anytime soon
Anthony Franco
4:24
Not really. His public marks are still ok there, and I don't think the Rangers signed him for a decade in anticipation of moving him to third within a couple years
By 2026 or something, sure, but nothing imminent

4:24
Will there be a FA Contest again?  Prizes?
Anthony Franco
4:25
Definitely going to have the contest. Not sure what the prize will be, but the prediction stuff drops in tandem with our Top 50 list
Late next week probably
Arise, Sir Loin of Beef
4:25
If the Mets let deGrom walk, what do you think their rotation looks like? How many of the free agent starters are brought back?
Anthony Franco
4:26
I kind of think Walker gets and accepts a qualifying offer and returns. Bassitt probably goes elsewhere, leaning increasingly towards them buying Carrasco out
4:27
Obviously if you're down to Walker and David Peterson, you're going to have to rebuild from the outside. I'm sure they'll make a run at Verlander if they don't keep deGrom. And they'll have to dip into the middle tiers of free agency regardless
4:28
I like them on Andrew Heaney probably, but any of the Martín Pérez/Tyler Anderson/José Quintana types would work
Then you have Joey Lucchesi as depth, could bring back Trevor Williams for cheap in a swing role

4:28
The name Arise, Sir Loin of Beef always makes me laugh out loud.  You?
Anthony Franco
4:29
It did the first couple times haha. I no longer even process it since I've seen it so many times, but once you point it out again, it is pretty good
Lefty
4:29
Hear me out. Let's say the Giants sign Judge. Then grab LH bats Wong and Belt to platoon on right side of IF. Hope for a platoon RH OF (in addition to Slater) to emerge from Farm (Vaun Brown or Heliot Ramos). Grab a Tyler Anderson and hope for Harrison to contribute soon at SP. Farhan won't sign Rodon for those years. Sign a late inning guy (the other Rogers).    That's a playoff team, no?
Anthony Franco
4:30
If they did all that (which they obviously won't exactly but none of it seems crazy to me), I agree they're a favorite for a Wild Card spot
4:31
Would like to see more in the bullpen than just Taylor Rogers, although he's a good start
Bob
4:31
The Bluejays need pitchers and the Cardinals need catching and more power. What do you think of the following trade? Jays get Jordan Montgomery and Victor Reyes while the Cardinals get Lourdes Guriel or Te Oscar Hernandez and Alexandrea Kirk
Anthony Franco
4:32
Jays aren't giving up Kirk for one year of Montgomery and I assume Alex Reyes?
Victor Reyes is a center fielder for the Tigers
4:33
Alex is the oft-injured Cardinals reliever, but he holds basically no trade value coming off a lost 2022
Julio Urias
4:33
Will I get a 7 or 8 years, $200 million, extension from Dodgers this off-season?  I am only 26 years old and a free agent after 2023 ends, but my agent, some guy named Scott, likes to test free agent waters, but I am happy where I am.
Anthony Franco
4:34
I have no idea whether Urías wants an extension this close to FA, but I think your number's reasonable
4:35
I did a post specifically looking at the parameters of what that extension could look like two weeks ago, so I encourage you to check that out if you haven't
Vegas Lee
4:35
do the Phillies have Bryce Harper locked down as far as contracts are concerned
Anthony Franco
4:36
There is no opt out in his contract if that's your question. He's there for nine more years, yes
