So we all agreed he was going short term. It was just a matter of whether we thought he'd get one year or had enough juice to get a team to go two years with an opt-out and take on the downside. Could've gone either way on that one but figured the risk that he's out into June or July next year would dissuade enough teams to stick at one

Do you think it’s likely that the Rays, rather than go down the free agent route to repair their catching woes, decide to deal from their depth of middle infielders and/or pitchers to acquire a top catching prospect or catcher with major league experience through trade?
Anthony Franco
3:53
Could see either situation. I picked them to sign Higashioka because it's the simplest option and they've got some short-term spending capacity but certainly wouldn't be surprised if they went to the trade market instead
Supply in both is pretty limited unfortunately

Let’s go FA shopping, theoretically if Rangers had 40-45 million to shop with this off-season who would you suggest they try to sign to most effectively feel their most important needs?

Bring Eovaldi and D-Rob back. Sign A.J. Minter. Explore trading Adolis for bullpen help and potentially reallocate his money to Conforto

whats bellringers trade value especially if Cubs attach a decent hitting prospect for pitching
Anthony Franco
3:58
Slightly negative trade value on his own so it depends on the quality of the prospect you're including. I think Bellinger alone could get a back-end starter who is making like $8-10MM
Curious A's Fan

Why do you think the A's didn't "seriously" listen on Rooker at the deadline? Not a single Top 100 prospect got dealt at the deadline; if you can't get a 50 FV prospect for one of the 10 best bats in baseball why trade the guy?
Anthony Franco
3:59
Not saying they should've traded him at all costs. Maybe they knew weeks before the deadline that other teams didn't value him the way they did, but there's no indication they seriously considered it right up to the deadline
4:00
Forst told Martín Gallegos like 10 days before the deadline that there were controllable players they didn't want to move. Passan reported a few days before that other teams understood that Rooker wasn't moving, and Forst publicly shot down the idea of trading him as soon as the offseason began
4:01
Seems pretty clear they just don't have any interest in trading him. Which is fine as long as they think they've got a reasonable path to contention by 2026. I understand the other questioner's skepticism about that given the strides they'll need to make in the rotation to make that happen

Probably too late, but any chance the Rangers trade Heim to someone hoping for a bounce back season?
Anthony Franco
4:03
Would be an easier sell if the FA catching market weren't so bad. Their only real in-house option at that point is Sam Huff, who probably can't catch. Signing Kelly or Higashioka costs more than Heim's projected arb figure
I doubt they'd rule it out entirely but it's a tough winter to line up on a sell-low there that doesn't just make the team worse in the short term

Cardinals 23% cut of what?  Article is paywalled.  Thanks!
Anthony Franco
4:04
23% cut on the revenue they would've made from their previous local broadcast deal had Diamond not dropped it

What would Junis cost?

Two-year guy for me, probably 12-14 total

Hi Anthony thanks for the chat.  As a Dodger fan I’m surprised none of you picked the Dodgers to resign Walker Buehler.  Especially if he only signs a one year deal.  Also only one person picked Teoscar Hernandez to resign with Dodgers.  Both players have stated they want to return.  If the Dodgers want either or both back they can match any offer from other clubs.
Anthony Franco
4:06
If the Dodgers had announced that Mookie was moving back to the infield before we published, I'd probably have put Teoscar back there
4:07
I didn't like the fit when it would've just blocked Pages in LF. It's a lot easier now that right field's open
4:09
Less sold on Buehler coming back. I know they've all said there's mutual interest but his regular season was dreadful and I like the idea of a pillow contract elsewhere that gives him a fresh start. Any positives about Buehler's '24 season are limited to10 innings in his final three postseason appearances. Couldn't have ended any better obviously, but that's a really small sample to wager $18-20MM on for next season
Optimistic Giants Fan

Is it plausible that the Giants put a lot of priority on getting guys like Blake Snell and Ha-Seong Kim because they don't have a qualifying offer attached? I know a lot of Giants fans want an offseason with like Adames+Fried or something but I don't believe that the Giants would want to lose so many draft picks for two seasons in a row. Plus, they have the money to get those two+someone with a qualifying offer attached, for example.
Anthony Franco
4:10
Totally reasonable hypothesis. If they are reluctant to give up draft compensation, would be curious to see if they'd deviate at shortstop if they don't land HSK

D-backs signed 2 starters and their left fielder LAST year, and picked up suarez's option this year... payroll is already pushed near the limit, so... off-season over already, right?
Anthony Franco
4:11
They'll offload part of the money on Monty and I still think they'll flip Suárez
Alright, I need to wrap this one up
4:12
Thanks for all the questions! This was one of the busier ones I've had in a while, so I'm sorry if I didn't get to your question. Feel free to throw anything at me on X @affranco10 and I'll get back to you on there
