The job involves reading so much of the beat coverage and everything that Passan, Rosenthal, Sherman, etc. put out there. As far as people who don't really break news but whose stuff I follow in my spare time because it shapes the way I think about the game, I'd put Eno Sarris at the top
Particularly when I was first starting out, his work completely changed the way I understood pitching

Wil Myers seems like perfect fit for Cubs.  Cheap enough that Mervis can win 1B job, able to be backup 1B and corner OF

He's a fine fallback but I wouldn't let Mervis dissuade me from making a run at Josh Bell, particularly if he ends up stopping at three years instead of four

Booby Miller for Alek Thomas, who says no?
Anthony Franco

I'd rather have Miller

What’s the point in someone like Judge going for the highest AAV or highest total value contract? Juan Soto will surely break that in a couple years anyways, barring injury. And then it will keep getting broken every few years after that. Or is it more than teams allow that market to happen, so players say “sure, why not”?

I'm sure there's a nice ego boost in knowing you got paid more than Player X before you, particularly if you're convinced you're better than that player. Going for the records also allows you to say you're driving the overall market upwards and setting the table for younger players from a union/solidarity perspective
4:15
I certainly wouldn't begrudge any player who doesn't care about that stuff. But I also think you're dealing with players (and agents) who tend to be very competitive by nature. The records are easy targets for them to latch on to and work hard to try to beat

The Red Sox now only have 2 catchers on the 40 man. Trading for Murphy? Signing a depth piece? Or a top tier? OR, none of the above and they’re using that spot for something else?
Anthony Franco

They'll make a strong push for Murphy but the competition's tough enough no single team can be sure they're getting him. If they miss there, you're probably looking at a Zunino type and then reevaluate at the deadline whether they need to upgrade
Alright that's all I have time for today. Apologies for all the stuff I couldn't get to

If you throw stuff at me on Twitter, I'll get back to you there. Enjoy the next few days! I'm sure we'll have plenty to discuss next week
