I guess my real question is, do you think his bat carries his profile?
Anthony Franco
8:23
Yeah I think Grissom will hit. Guessing the profile will look kind of Jorge Polanco-ish
Roger Maris
8:24
Is there any hope for Alex Kirilloff, Jarred Kelenic, Spencer Torkelson, Ezekiel Duran, Nick Yorke, or Greg Jones—or are they all doomed to become members of the Dustin Ackley Hall of Shame?
Anthony Franco
8:24
Still intrigued by them all to varying degrees. Would have Yorke, Tork and Kelenic at the top
The Fish
8:24
Rogers for Nick Madrigal, Miguel Amaya and Brennen Davis from Chicago? I think that makes us better next year and beyond. Are you in?
Anthony Franco
8:25
Not sure the Cubs bite but yeah, I can see the argument here on both sides. It’s a risk/reward package, kind of a risk/reward gamble for both teams, but it’s reasonable to me
Paul K
8:25
Does the Varsho trade really bite when Gurriel becomes NYCY left fielder?
Anthony Franco
8:25
For Arizona? No, I don't think so. I liked it for them
8:26
Varsho to Gurriel is a downgrade obviously, but he's a decent player. And the upgrade at catcher should be significant enough I don't think they got meaningfully worse in 2023 while adding six seasons of a potentially very good catcher
Hazen and Bloom
8:26
How about Carson Kelly for Darwinzon Hernandez? Both provide more value for the other team than their current team.
Anthony Franco
8:27
I'd rather have Kelly

What free agent acquisition could add some punch to the Brewers' offense, which is not very intimidating at this point? Which of their current position players is most likely to take it up another level offensively in 2023. Or will they have to primarily win lower scoring games with their strong starting pitching and platooning their bats?
Anthony Franco
8:28
Not sure there’s an impact offensive addition to be had but they make sense for a Pollock type to factor into the corner outfield/DH mix
8:29
As far as internal candidates for a step forward, guess I’m on the Luis Urías breakout train for one more season. Think it’s going to be a pitching and defense focused club in any event though
Angels fan
8:29
I am hearing that we are looking to add one more pitcher. Who do you think makes most sense. What about sale
Mike trout
8:29
We could use more pitching depth
Anthony Franco
8:29
Don’t really buy the Sale trade chatter. What team is taking a notable portion of 2/55 off Boston’s hands right now? I like the Halos as a fit for Wacha or Cueto

Do you think Farhan has mismanaged the Giants over the past two seasons?  I do and here's why:  There we no was 2022 would be as good as the 2021 107 win madness.  Regression to the mean is a real thing.  Plus, we lost Buster.  To me, if Farhan was serious about trying to contend, he would have tried to ride the 2021 magic and bring in some fresh, young talent LAST offseason.  Then maybe 2022 would have looked more like a 92-70 instead of 81-81.  Then, we could have gone into this offseason not so desperate for impact players (Judge, Correa).  In essence, I feel that last season was wasted and we should be a year closer to contending in the NL West or aiming for a WC spot and a decent shot at a playoff run.  What do you think???  Thank you Anthony!  Happy New Year!!!
Anthony Franco
8:30
Thanks, Happy New Year to you as well!
8:31
I don't think so, at least with the evidence the front office had at the time. I thought the 2021 club earned a right to mostly run it back this year, and I remained of the opinion they could contend pretty deep into the 2022 season
8:32
Now maybe that just means I'd have similarly mismanaged the team the way Zaidi did because it didn't work and this offseason has gone terribly. But it'd be disingenuous for me to criticize Farhan for most of what he did last winter when I thought it was all pretty sensible at the time
8:33
Only thing I thought was a real mistake even at the time was not addressing the bullpen more than they did
Bob T
8:33
Anthony, what kind of trade value does Luis Rengifo have? Could they get a good young arm for him?
Anthony Franco
8:34
Think it's pretty modest trade value. Can't see anyone giving up an especially promising young pitcher, maybe more of a back-end type with a similar control window. Not a great defender anywhere and the pre-2022 offensive track record was rough
Trader Jerry
8:34
Should I trade Chris Flexen to the Twins for Max Kepler?
Anthony Franco
8:35
Don't think this really moves the needle for Minnesota. Guess they could use some rotation stability given the injury concerns on the staff but I think they can do a little better for Kepler

8:35
Oh, one more:  Do you think Boras comes out looking like a chump in this whole Correa debacle?  Why do you think he wouldn't try to negotiate with the Giants like it seems he is doing with the Mets?
Anthony Franco
8:36
"Chump" feels harsh since it's his job to play things in his client's favor (and since the Boras Corporation has had a great offseason overall). But yeah, it's not a great look for Correa's camp
8:37
I'm not sure why they felt the need to immediately pivot away from SF and take the Mets opportunity within 12 hours. Hoping we get an oral history from Ken Rosenthal or someone when this is all said and done

Dominic Smith and the Padres are they a fit. He had a sweet swing a few years back and could be a low cost bounce back type of player. I’m surprised he has not generated much interest.
Anthony Franco
8:38
Yeah I could see this. Shouldn't be too costly, fits them positionally
Trades
8:38
lars Nootbar for Shane baz is pretty interesting framework
Anthony Franco
8:39
Yeah that'd be a really interesting one. I don't think Tampa's doing it though
Tony
8:39
My question is the rumors regarding Sale and St Louis Cardinals. I am sure the Red Sox  would love to move on from the contract but what is the appeal from the Cards side? Sale hasn't been right for a couple of years. If there is fire, would the Red Sox pick up his salary and Cards send DeJong and Knizner?
Anthony Franco
8:40
Would be very surprised if we get a Sale trade this winter. If the Red Sox are paying down a notable chunk of the money, they might as well just hold on and hope he gets back to form
They're not rebuilding and need rotation help, so dealing Sale only makes much sense if another team's taking most of the money off their hands, which I can't see
Tony
8:41
Happy holidays! I know at least one of the staff is Canadian, just curious if you watch the bowl games.
Anthony Franco
8:41
Ha I am not one of our resident Canadians. Those would be Darragh and Mark
8:42
I used to like college football more than I do now. I keep loose track of the bowl games but probably won't watch any individual one start to finish

While there’s a lot of FAs left, most top and probably second tier players are signed. Who do you see trading for help at this point? What is you out of nowhere trade and what is your “makes sense it should happen” trade?
