Haha if I had a great out-of-nowhere trade prediction, I'd have written an article on it by now. Still feels like Miami and Minnesota have to do something (Marlins with the rotation, Twins in the outfield)
I mean in general, though I guess they could match up in that regard

If the Mets deal with Correa falls through, I'd like to see them trade for Devers if he'd sign an extension.
Do you agree about Devrs, and if they offered Baty, Vientos and Carrasco, would it be enough? Too much?
Anthony Franco
8:45
Sure, Devers makes sense as an aspirational trade target but I don't know that Boston's ownership and front office wants to make that move given the offseason they've already had
As far as the trade package you suggested, I think it's pretty compelling. Carrasco's not going to do much for them -- dealing Devers basically means they're punting on 2023 -- but the chance to get Baty would be appealing if they were willing to make that trade

If Miami is willing to trade SP, do you think they would make Luzardo available to Cards for Nolan Gorman?
Anthony Franco
8:46
I don't, given the concerns about Gorman's swing-and-miss and the lack of a great defensive home

Good evening and Happy New Year.  The Tigers appear to be treading water (at best).  Grossman (gone), Baddoo (AAA-again?), and Hasse (better as a Catcher) all player LF in 2022 (along with some other one-hit-wonders).  Do you think that they might look to A.J. Pollack or D. Peralta as a cheap fallback option?  Thanks for doing this.
Anthony Franco
8:46
Thanks Will, happy New Year!
8:47
I could see them bringing in a lower-cost veteran outfielder, sure. Fill the Grossman role with a Ben Gamel type so you're not stuck relying on Baddoo if he struggles again

Any thoughts on next moves for the Blue Jays?  Still think a 5th starter and relievers are needed, but what your 2cents.
Anthony Franco
8:48
Yeah I agree. Putting the finishing touches on the pitching staff is probably the priority. Another middle innings arm and hopefully at least a minor league signee who has a real chance to push Kikuchi and White for the fifth rotation spot in Spring Training

Are the Rangers a better fit for a Reynolds trade than the Yankees? If so who might the Pirates get?
Anthony Franco
8:49
I don't know that either is necessarily a better fit. They both make sense for a left fielder
8:50
As with the Dodger question, so much of this comes down to the Pirates' preferences, but I could see a Reynolds deal that's built around Jack Leiter and a couple of the upper level infield prospects (Foscue, Durán, etc.) having appeal

Orioles made a lot of progress in 2022. Why aren’t they spending money this off-season to build on it?
Joe
8:50
cant help but feel Orioles are squandering the off-season. They don’t have enough pitching and all picking  upgrades are off the market. Why aren’t they spending money?
Anthony Franco
8:51
I don’t know. I agree it’s been a pretty disappointing offseason there. Position player mix is kind of coming along, but I would’ve liked to see them jump into the rotation market with more earnest
Prices were higher than expected in general, but something like the Eovaldi deal would've been perfectly reasonable in my view

What would you consider to be the worst trade in the history of MLB to be?
Anthony Franco
8:52
Worst trade in history has to be Babe Ruth right?
8:53
As far as things from recent memory that jump out, the Arenado trade was widely panned at the time and looks like an absolute disaster for the Rockies. Franchise-altering blunder that seems like it as much a result of a personal rift between Arenado and Jeff Bridich as anything else

How do the giants salvage their offseason / the rest of the decade?
Anthony Franco
8:54
I don’t know there’s a way to salvage the offseason. They went in expecting to get a star, telegraphed to the fanbase they’d get a star, and they didn’t get one.
Say what you want about the poor luck involved and everything, but it turned out badly
8:55
I don’t think they’re set back for multiple years or anything though. It’s not a good result for 2023, but they have ample long-term payroll space they’ll probably leverage next winter

Babe Ruth wasn't a trade; it was a purchase
Anthony Franco
8:55
Sure, I guess this is technically true

Have you heard any rumblings that the Cubs might Trade Kyle Hendricks? He is in his last year of contract. What could they get? Not to great anymore
Anthony Franco
8:56
Yeah I just don't think there's much demand for Hendricks at $14MM coming off an average season ended early because of shoulder problems
Artie moreno
8:56
What would adames cost me
Anthony Franco
8:57
Don’t think the Brewers are seriously considering something like that. Start with O’Hoppe and Taylor Ward and maybe they just have to think about it, but I buy that they don’t want to move him

Is a Giants/Belt reunion a possibility?
Anthony Franco
8:58
I think they're going to try to work Wade more into the lefty-hitting first base/DH role
Dave Roberts
8:58
Will we be able to get another SS or center fielder
Anthony Franco
8:59
Doubt there’s another shortstop coming. Guessing they’ll swing a trade for a Michael Taylor or Victor Robles to mix into center field
Walk the plank
8:59
$14 million for Hill and Santana.  Why not have used that money as the down payment to extend Reynolds or Bednar?
Anthony Franco
9:02
Yeah I think you can argue they should've prioritized extensions over the series of one-year deals they've actually undertaken. Long-term commitment for Bednar might not be super urgent since he's a reliever, and the talks with Reynolds look like they've hit an impasse

How do you see my off-season so far? About what you would have expected? Any more bargains out there for me to get?
