Yandy for Tork and Foley. Who says no?
Anthony Franco
3:36
I like this one. I'd be reluctant to give up Foley if I were Detroit but I get the logic here on both ends
GBS42
3:36
But I am friends with Juan Soto's cousin, and I know he's going to sign with the Marlins!!
Anthony Franco
3:37
I'll let Darragh know to get the post started
Brad
3:37
Joc Pederson with Rays is a perfect fit - either with a Yandy trade or not.  With their deficiencies against RHH and now playing in Yankee Stadium south for a year - great fit.  Thoughts on this and other moves they may make even after Jansen signing
Anthony Franco
3:38
Yeah I like this one. Arguably a little redundant with Aranda, who I still think has a shot to be a good MLB hitter, but he could be a part of a subsequent trade for outfield help
3:40
Or get more run at first base if they trade Yandy. Outfield would be my next target area there though. They seem to like Morel more than I do, but having him and Palacios rotating through with Lowe and Deluca isn't great
Guardians
3:40
Who would be a realistic return for Naylor or Thomas?
Anthony Franco
3:42
An affordable back-end starter seems viable in either case. They've got value but it's not huge. Guardians gave up a lot to get Thomas at the deadline. Would be a weird decision to trade him for like 60% of that after a few months
I'd be more open to moving Naylor and giving first base to Manzardo, but I get the concern about the clubhouse hit on that
Arenado
3:43
I know Arenado is on the decline, but Arenado to Houston sounds like the perfect match.  I really believe that Arenado can put up the same offensive numbers as Bregman playing with the pull since short porch, with the defense to match. Thoughts on the match and how much Arenado has left in the tank?
Anthony Franco
3:46
I like the fit a lot, just a question of how much they're willing to spend if it's not to retain Bregman. I wouldn't go quite as far as expecting Arenado to match Bregman at the plate, but I think there'd be a bit of an offensive boost and he's still an asset defensively. Obviously a huge upgrade relative to the in-house options if Bregman walks

When you guys give your opinions on whether certain teams would accept trades, do you have a 'points' system (similar to another website), do you use certain tools that teams use to value trades that ordinary fans wouldn't have access to, or is it just more of a gut feeling based on your experience?
Anthony Franco
3:47
Just feel, we don't have any kind of algorithm
3:49
I think we broadly value players similarly but it's not always uniform. We may all be broadly lower on Alec Bohm than consensus, but I think Steve's lower on him than the rest of us, as one example
Lefty
3:49
Logistics question - can a team trade for a non-protected Rule V player before next weeks draft and add them to their 40 man immediately?
Anthony Franco
3:49
Nope
Can acquire them but not protect them, so you run the risk of losing them in the Rule 5 right after
Manfred
3:49
Why do I hate baseball? Do you think the golden AB becomes a new rule eventually?
3:50
Will I be remembered for stadium fiascos like Oakland and TB or is that not big enough to surpass the juiced balls?
Anthony Franco
3:51
I'd be stunned if the golden AB actually happens. It's on such another level of changing the game than anything else they've done IMO. Closest comp is the extra-inning runner, I guess, but that impacts a fraction of games and came with general player/team support because they don't want to play marathon games in the regular season that tax the bullpen
3:52
On Manfred's legacy, relocation and the rule changes feels like a more lasting memory than the changes to the ball. If there's a lockout that wipes out a chunk of the 2027 season, that'd probably rise to the top
Juan Soto's Cousin
3:53
Catching Defense is important and having someone that can out-hit the pitcher is generally seen as a plus. So why is Gary Sanchez universally persona-non-grata? Does he have an affinity for everyone's 17 or 19 year old cousin? He gets ignored every year. It is baffling. He only didn't play last year because William Contreras is an All-Star, Yelich needed DH time, and Hoskins was "making too much money to bench" or whatever the Brewers' reasoning was
Anthony Franco
3:53
Darragh McDonald burner?
3:55
Gary's fine. He hits for power but the OBP is meh and while he's probably an improved defender over his early days with the Yankees, he's still not a great receiver. He's a capable backup or 1b type, wouldn't want him as my primary catcher
Stros Cubs
3:55
(Sorry - think I hit “send” by mistake.) How about Bellinger for Pressly and Caratini? Gives the Stros a solid bat who can improve their situation at 1B/LF/CF and gives the Cubs a familiar closing option and partner for Amaya behind the plate.
Anthony Franco
3:57
I'd take Caratini out of it if I were Houston but I saw Nick Deeds floated a Bellinger/Pressly swap last week and I'm in. Hadn't considered it before that but I think it makes both teams better (assuming the Cubs spend the money they're saving on more bullpen help)
StromanAin'tDaMan
3:57
I keep reading about the Yanks potentially trading Marcus Stroman to clear space for an upgrade.....but his contract seems pretty untradable.  How much money would they have to eat to get rid of him and could they actually get anything useful back? TY.
Anthony Franco
3:59
It's not a good contract but I don't think it's horrible. One year at $18MM for a fourth starter is probably only a couple million over the market
4:00
Montas and Boyd got close to that annually. Kyle Gibson gets $12-13MM every year. Stroman's in that general range for me
4:01
The '26 vesting option isn't ideal, but an acquiring team could DFA him at like 125 innings if he's not pitching well to keep him from getting to the 140 needed to unlock it. (Cubs did that with Neris this year.) They wouldn't get much back, but they could probably move him if they ate like $3-4MM
Kevin
4:01
Why would Texas be trying to trade 1st baseman Nathaniel Lowe,he was the team leader in on base percentage and who are they looking to replace him with, Corey Seager and bring up Walcott?
Anthony Franco
4:03
Budget seems tight and they need a lot of pitching help. Certainly have to bring in multiple relievers, they're trying to get Eovaldi back. Trading Lowe would free up nearly $11MM
4:04
They probably don't have to do it. Could try to move Jon Gray and flip Leody Taveras if they're really cash-strapped, but I'd at least be open to moving Lowe if I were them
Joe Schlabotnik
4:04
For some reason I wasn’t able to find this anywhere, can you share how many teams have open spots on their 40 men roster and what the rule five draft order is going to be?
Are there any players that you see as surefire selections?
Anthony Franco
4:05
RosterResource tracks how many players every team has the 40. Almost all of them have open spots
4:06
The draft order is just the inverse of last year's standings. White Sox first, Rockies second, etc.
Ryan Red-leg
4:07
Good afternoon, Anthony.  Thank you for another chat.  The Reds COO said that they will be at or aove last years payroll, and a couple days ago Nick Krall said they had the flexibility to add top talent. Let's say they have 30 mil to spend. How can they best use that money?
Anthony Franco
4:09
$19MM for Teoscar, $9MM for David Robertson and $2MM for a backup catcher?
