I'd guess Leclerc gets it to start the season
Jurickson Profar
4:26
Which uniform am I wearing on Opening Day? (I’ll guess Baltimore or Texas.)
Anthony Franco
4:27
Man, I really have no idea. Don't like any fit at this point. Wonder if he's just left waiting until somebody gets hurt in Spring Training
4:28
If I have to pick a team right now, I guess give me Detroit
Mo
4:28
Does Nolan Gorman or Jordan Walker get more Major League ABs this year?
Anthony Franco
4:28
I'd take Walker. Once he's up, he's playing everyday
Mike Soroka
4:29
I can’t get a break, can I?
Anthony Franco
4:29
Hadn't seen that until you mentioned it. At least this one seems minor?

With the As initial Las Vegas location getting shot down, where do you think the franchise is playing ball in 2030?
Anthony Franco
4:30
I hope they figure something out in Oakland. Would hate to see that city lose another team

4:30
Does Montas injury mean that the Jays and Yankees are pretty even now?
Anthony Franco
4:31
I still like the Yankees a little more. Toronto's back of the rotation is still worse than New York's
4:32
Not a major gap or anything. I'd take the Yankees by like two games
RAGBRAI
4:32
The Padres and Mets(and probably others) have talked about six man rotations. Is this becoming the new norm or are they saying this and letting attrition work things out? Why a six man as opposed to using openers?
Anthony Franco
4:32
Feels like a thing that teams do early in the season to build pitch counts and gradually faze out as some starters get hurt and the healthy ones are able to work deeper into games
4:34
Nothing stopping you from using an opener in a six-man rotation. The opener is less about managing innings and more so a way to minimize the third time through the order penalty for whichever pitcher throws the longest in an outing (since they're theoretically facing the bottom of a lineup for a third time before they get to the top if they come into the game in the second or third inning)

Prospect 4 prospect trade.  Walker from cardinals for volpe from Yankees.  In theory it solves both teams issues.  Walker is blocked at 3rd and the cards ss options are weak.  Yankees have too many ss prospects and no definitive 3B option after donelson ( haha).  Personally I would rather have walker but rankings are very similar.  Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
4:35
I think you'd get a split camp from prospect evaluators which one of these guys they'd prefer (I'd take Walker) but this kind of thing never happens, fun as it is
4:37
Mostly because teams are biased toward their own guy. The Yankees and Cardinals liked Volpe and Walker, respectively, enough to take them in the first round out of high school. They've each followed their respective player's development paths, seen how much they've progressed, spent a lot of time working with the player. So most Yankee evaluators probably prefer Volpe, and most Cardinal evaluators likely prefer Walker. It makes these kinds of trades almost impossible to line up
4:38
I don't mean for "biased" to come off as pejorative, to be clear. They're both really talented. Probably not the best word choice, but the broader point stands

Who do you think will be the tigers opening day 3rd baseman?
Anthony Franco

Nick Maton
Padres fan
4:38
Help me understand this. The small market Padres have spent because they care about winning. They don’t care about making money. How is this a bad thing like Manfraud is making it out to be?
Anthony Franco
4:39
Yeah, those comments are kind of par for the course for Manfred but come off as out of touch. There's a reason we haven't included them on the site
4:41
Will the Padres eventually curtail spending? Maybe. Are they losing money on an annual basis? Probably. If Peter Seidler isn't worried about it, the team is good and the fanbase is fired up, then that all feels like a great. Wouldn't worry about the commissioner's comments. He tailors things he says to all 30 owners, many of whom are presumably not super thrilled with the Mets and Padres these days

I’m not sure if you guys know this, but when I’m on the MLBTR app on my iPhone and reading and article but then I leave the app, I come back and it automatically takes me back to the top of the article, even if I was already half done reading with it. This is super annoying sometimes is there any way you could tell Tim and maybe get it fixed? Thanks
Anthony Franco
4:42
Noted! I'll pass it along
Curious
4:42
What are your thoughts on Torkelson for this season and ahead.. Will he be the player we all thought, or just another over hyped prospect that just can't carryover his hitting to produce at major league level?
Anthony Franco
4:44
Yeah I'm still a believer. He's got so much power and the per-pitch contact rates at the MLB level weren't bad. Remain very confident he'll be a middle-of-the-order within two years, probably a little above-average for the upcoming season
Matt
4:44
Does Mark P still work for MLBTR?
Anthony Franco
4:45
Yeah Mark's in the same role he's had for a while. He has other freelance sports-related gigs on weekdays but usually handles Saturday and Sunday night shifts for us and occasionally picks up a few weekday hours
4:46
Generally, it's Steve, Darragh and myself splitting weekday coverage. Mark's on weekend nights most of the time, with Simon covering Saturday mornings. Darragh's on Sunday mornings for now but that's temporary
Its not a chat with no joe adell trade question
4:46
Adell for ikf and Albert abreu who says no
Anthony Franco
4:47
Probably the Angels. Not a crazy proposal but it feels like they're ok with the infield depth they have right now. Not sure Kiner-Falefa is better than Luis Rengifo
Jays
4:47
George Springer and Adolis Garcia seem to be the same player—decent BA, decent HRs, and decent SBs. Who will be the better player in this season?
Anthony Franco
4:48
Springer consistently runs an on-base percentage in the .350 range. Adolis has never been above .300. I'd much rather have Springer
4:49
If you're talking fantasy purposes where OBP's irrelevant, then it's closer. But Springer's in the better lineup and should have more run scoring opportunities, so I'd still take him

How does IKF have any trade value? Gold glove third basemen who can play an average shortstop. Can hit for an empty average. Gio Urshela was bought for 25k and is essentially the same player
Anthony Franco
4:51
IKF's cheaper than Urshela but generally, I agree he doesn't have much trade value. That Adell for him and Abreu strikes me as pretty close says more about Adell's stock at this point than it does about Kiner-Falefa

Thanks for the chat. I want to say I appreciate that you guys give the same coverage to every team regardless of region or market size. Take a lot to keep up on all 30 teams and you do a better job of that than the national media. My question regard the news on Marco Luciano. The Giants say it's not a long term concern but it suggests to me that a position shift is likely happening sooner then later, which impacts the SS plan post Crawford. Given that next years FA SS class in rather weak and Arteaga is at least 2 years from the bigs are there trade options that the team could look to?
