Last round doesn't give a ton of cause for optimism, aside from the fact that they ultimately backed off the brinkmanship at the absolute last possible second
Guessing we're headed on a similar trajectory next time but there are four more seasons in between. Not fretting yet
Buff

Now that O'Neill is in the competition for the center field job in St Louis, how great is the risk to Carlson's playing time?
Anthony Franco
4:54
Don't think it's in jeopardy right now. Carlson's the better defensive option
Rodon Right On
4:55
Can players be traded when they are on the IL, and if so does it happen?
Anthony Franco
4:55
They can, yeah. Happens sometimes around the deadline
Curt Casali was on the IL last year when the Giants traded him to the Mariners. Matt Boyd was too, now that I think about it
4:56
Danny Duffy from the Royals to L.A. in 2021 (didn't work for the Dodgers). I'm sure there are bigger examples but those are the ones that come to mind

Is Addison Barger Toronto's starting 3B for opening day, '24?
Anthony Franco
4:56
I think so
No chance in '23
4:56
So which MLB teams have virtually no chance to reach the playoffs this year? I say Rockies, Reds, Pirates. Tigers. Anyone else you see?
Anthony Franco
4:58
Washington and Oakland. I'd take the Tigers and Pirates out of the group you listed probably. Certainly unlikely but they both have enough interesting young players that sometimes things coalesce at the right time and you're surprisingly respectable

Considering the health risk and considering the possibility the Brewers can't keep both Burnes and Woodruff, what's the likelihood that Freddy Peralta becomes a mainstay of the Milwaukee rotation cor the next several years?
Anthony Franco
4:59
I think he's already there. Freddy's great

Do you see much value in karinchak in a non-holder roto league, and how do you envision the Athletics outfield unfolding? I'm scratching my head on who will get the most at bats... thanks
Anthony Franco
4:59
I don't really know how to answer the first question. I've never played in a root league. He's going to be really good but not getting saves unless Clase gets hurt. Not sure if that does anything for you
5:01
Oakland: Laureano's playing every day. Pache's probably going to be on the roster and they're incentivized to give him some at-bats to see if there's any hope offensively because they can't send him back to the minors. Bleday and Ruiz should get a decent chunk of time
5:02
Feels like Seth Brown's playing DH most of the time. I think Cal Stevenson, Conner Capel and Brent Rooker are out to start the season
Which comes first?
5:02
Someone breaks Hack Wilson's 191 RBI record, or the MASN/Orioles/Nats lawsuit gets settled?
Anthony Franco
5:02
Lol
Can I choose nuclear annihilation?
George's Bell
5:02
Which team is poised to have the greatest gain in stolen bases this year given the new rules / bases?
Anthony Franco
5:04
Hmm, not sure how to predict this one. Feels like you'd want a roster of guys with above-average but not elite speed, since the elite runners probably had the green light to begin with
5:05
Atlanta maybe? Pittsburgh?
Big Bob
5:06
Will the Dodgers get Burns?
Anthony Franco
5:06
Brewers aren't trading him right now. If they fall out of it midseason, the Dodgers should be in the mix
Jash
5:06
hi anthony, do you feel the mets are done or does uncle steve have something else up his sleeve...?
Anthony Franco
5:07
Looks like they're done for now. Didn't really have any obvious needs except arguably LH relief but they don't seem to want to commit a roster spot to a veteran free agent
Stolen base answer
5:09
Royals.
Anthony Franco
5:09
Thought about them but they were already tied for sixth last year

I’m not as hard on small market teams as some.  They sometimes give good extension contracts (Yelich, Braun, McCutcheon, Longoria).  And even with increased TV revenue they can’t afford the last 4 seasons of players like Cano or Cabrera. I think short term max contracts would fix that.  Small market NBA teams often give maxes because they know each year will be productive.  Is there ANY way owners and Union would work toward that
Anthony Franco
5:10
Union's not going to have any part of a limit on contract length. Would just be a non-starter
Mike Dragotta
5:10
Do you think the Rays will be playoff contenders this year?
Anthony Franco
5:11
Probably more wild card than division winners, but yeah, I think they're a playoff team
A lot of position player depth, should benefit from better health for guys like Lowe, Franco and Glasnow. They annually run elite bullpens. I'm still bullish
Jack's Brick House
5:12
If Brennan Davis is healthy, what do you see from him this year?
Anthony Franco
5:14
Guessing he spends the bulk of the year in Triple-A. Hoping he can improve the strikeout rate with consistent reps over a full schedule
Matt
5:14
You watching spring training games today?
Anthony Franco
5:15
I don't watch much Spring Training. Prefer college baseball there too, since those games are more competitive
Just for fun
5:15
How much do you think that it will take to sign Yamamoto in January 2023 and Munetaka in January 2025?  They are both clearly nine figure guys.  Both are truly elite and young enough.
