Are the Giants good and boring or bad and boring?
Anthony Franco
5:04
Ha, I think they're average and ... somewhat boring?
5:05
I think the rotation could be fun. The position players are a lot of solid but not super exciting matchup guys, I agree

Hey, Anthony.  Thanks for doing these chats.  I KNOW that you do not focus on fantasy (that much) … it's Brad's domain.  But, my draft is in a week (Al-only, 5x5).  My question is about Nick Gordon (INF - MIN) and his IRL injury.  Do you think that he will start the season on the IL?  Or, will he be on the active roster?
Anthony Franco
5:07
He was back in the Spring Training lineup yesterday and got three at-bats while playing second base
Seems like he'll be good

Hi, Anthony. Sorry I couldn't get back to you last week (dental appt). The idea about knee replacement came from thinking about a Brandon Belt type player, good hitter but his knees are failing. As the procedure becomes more common and rehab times more manageable it seems possible that a player could extend his career another 5 or 10 years.
Anthony Franco
5:10
This is in reference to a question John asked last week about whether mid-career knee replacements could become more prevalent. I haven't the slightest idea on that -- it's way out of my wheelhouse -- but I would've never considered it before so I'll be curious to see if there's any merit to the hypothesis

Twins IF looking like Miranda (shoulder) back at 1st, Polanco 2B, Correa SS, Farmer 3B.  Better than 2022?
Anthony Franco
5:11
Losing Arraez hurts and I'd take the under on Urshela's 2022 from Farmer

Anthony, I don't even know if you can tackle this question, but does anybody have any idea how much money MLB is going to make from the WBC?  (Another reason why it exists beyond 'building the sport worldwide'.
Anthony Franco
5:13
I don't know how what the balance sheet looks like for MLB after expenses, but the 2017 WBC reportedly brought in more than $100MM in revenue
Hits Like Rays
5:13
Likelihood of Rays being able to sign Shane McClanahan to a long-term extension?
Anthony Franco
5:14
It'd require more than any extension they've done aside from Wander. Feels unlikely given their spending habits but I'd have said that of extending Glasnow mid-TJ rehab too
Big Maple
5:14
Will TB let Manuel Margot be a full-timer (assuming his health) or is he doomed to platoon? Either way, will he have a double-double in HRs and SBs?
Anthony Franco
5:15
Believe I answered this in greater detail a couple weeks ago, but yeah, I think he'll go double-digits on both homers and steals
Mr Eppler
5:15
Hey Anthony. What would it take for me to get Mr Barlow from the Royals?
Anthony Franco
5:16
This is in reference to the Mets but I don't see the Royals trading Scott Barlow before Opening Day

What’s a reasonable number for Adley Rutschman extension? Would bring a catcher make it harder or easier to get one done in your opinion?
Anthony Franco
5:17
Early-career extensions for catchers are pretty rare but I think that's more a reflection of the recent dip in production at that position than anything else. That's not a concern with Adley, obviously
5:19
He's got a full year of service and signed for more than $8MM out of college. Looks like a superstar and has never struggled anywhere. He's 25, so he's older than Julio Rodríguez and Wander Franco were when they signed extensions, but Adley's arguably a safer bet than even those guys were
5:21
I think it's over $200MM at this point, especially since a deal that only buys like two free agent years probably isn't doing it for Rutschman. He'd hit free agency at age 30 if he went year by year through arb. Signing a seven or eight year deal basically gives up the chance at a huge free agent payday, so it feels like you're going a decade-plus if this is going to be the biggest contract of his career
Alright that's all we've got for this week
Thanks for all the questions and obviously for supporting the site in general!
I'm on Twitter if you want to throw anything else at me throughout the week. We'll do this again next Friday, have a great weekend!
