Hey everyone, hope you've enjoyed your week!
3:00
I've got a hard out at 3:00 Central today so I'll try to keep this one moving
Royal Help Now

Noah Cameron and Hunter Renfrow to Orioles for Cedric Mullins. Who says no?
Anthony Franco
3:02
Mullins has been basically the only consistent source of offense for Baltimore so far. They're not going to sell now, and if they do, they'd need a definitively better than the pick they're receive if he rejects a qualifying offer and walks as a free agent. Cameron feels roughly equivalent to the QO pick, and Renfroe's a negative value asset. Don't think Baltimore would do it in July, certainly can't see them doing it now

George Springer seems to have found a time machine.  If he can keep this up, and the Jays are out of it at the deadline would he be movable?  How much of his contract would the Jays have to eat?
Anthony Franco
3:05
He's hitting for more power and the exit velocity is way up, but it's come with a significant drop in contact rate. $22.5MM for this season and next (ages 35-36) still feels really high given the trend lines before this year
3:06
He won't still be hitting like this at the deadline -- a .438 BABIP isn't sustainable for three months -- but if the offense is like 15-20 points above league average from now through July, maybe they could find a taker for half the money

If a player,Especially a player that has a lot of major league experience, signs a minor league deal.Is it month to month ? Meaning if they are a Dfa'd And resign with the same team on a minor league deal,Are they actually getting Whole new contract on top Of what they originally signed or is it just another month to month Contract??
Anthony Franco
3:07
It's a new contract but they're not collecting the full salary of every previous deal on top of the new one, if that's what you're asking
3:08
The new deal might come with a slightly higher base rate or different opt-out dates that make it preferable to accepting repeated outright assignments

Would LAD be interested in Arenado with Muncy slumping?  $15 million going to LA to cover salary and either pitcher Miller or Wrobleski to Cards. Thoughts??
Anthony Franco
3:11
I can kind of see it, though I imagine the Dodgers are still reluctant to make a multi-year commitment at third base with Murakami coming over next offseason. Muncy looks terrible though, and if that doesn't turn around within the next two months, they may just need to worry about this postseason and sort out the long term positional outlook later

Will my team ever hit another HR?  What can I do to fix my offence?
Anthony Franco
3:13
Santander's better than this obviously. Bichette should have double-digit HR power. I'd take the over on him slugging .370 the rest of the way
3:16
Vlad's going to be fine. Beyond that though, not looking good. Springer hitting way above his head and Giménez going on a power barrage for like a week is about all they've had. I don't think it's getting much better. Varsho and Giménez are average hitters at best, none of the young infielders have gotten out to good starts. The lineup just isn't deep enough

The Braves are 10-7 after the 0-7 start, do you think they get back to playoff contention or their flaws are to big to overcome, specially when the NL west has 4 teams capable of getting to the postseason?
Anthony Franco
3:17
I wouldn't pick them to make the playoffs but I had them as the top team out to begin the season. Never thought they were out of contention, but the West looks great and I like both the Mets and Phillies a little bit more in the East
3:18
Would still take Atlanta above the Giants and have them seventh in the NL right now. Tough league

3:18
What team(s) are playing over their heads at the moment and will fall back to earth soon and which team that is off to a horrid start will right the ship and make the playoffs?
Anthony Franco
3:20
San Francisco kind of has to be the pick for the former. Good team, but the rotation beyond Webb is too wobbly for me to pick them as a playoff team in the NL. The latter question? I don't know. Does 10-14 for Baltimore qualify as a horrid start?
3:22
The only teams more than five under .500 right now are Pittsburgh, Colorado, Minnesota and the White Sox and I think they're all just bad. Expected as much for the Pirates, Rox and Sox. Have lost almost faith in Minnesota to figure it out offensively
Almost all faith*

With the potiental upcoming strike after next season, will the FA market be more or less robust? Matz was signed at 4\44 right before the last possible lockout, but this one seems worse to me. I couldn't find a site that specific on contracts signed before a potential work stoppage.
Anthony Franco
3:23
Don't think it'll have a huge effect next offseason. Maybe a couple more extensions or backloaded contracts so that the player's salary is lowest in '27 (the season theoretically most in jeopardy to a lockout)
3:24
But I doubt it'll be enough to have a market-wide aggregate impact. Too much uncertainty on how it'll play out to dramatically change operating procedure a year in advance

How long can Chad Patrick carry on this delightful masquerade of being a good pitcher? Today may tell!
And what are the Cardinals going to do with T Saggese? (I assumed they would demote him with Winn's return to get him consistent work)
Anthony Franco
3:26
Patrick's a depth guy for me. Mostly average stuff (maybe a little above with the cutter), not many whiffs, riding a very high strand rate that won't hold up. Fine sixth or seventh starter
3:28
Saggese's still up because Brendan Donovan has been day-to-day. I think he'll go back down once Donovan is healthy because they want Gorman playing every day (dividing 2B and DH with Donovan)
Bob
3:28
How good can Jackson Chourio be without walking much?
Anthony Franco
3:30
He can't keep chasing this often, but his swing rate as a rookie was 10 percentage points lower than it is now. He's never been a patient hitter. Teetering over the line right now but it's one iffy month for a player who just turned 21 and has already shown an All-Star ceiling. Not at all concerned
3:31
I expect some peak Luis Robert-type seasons from Chourio -- hopefully without the constant injuries that have kept Robert from getting there more than a couple times
Cat Herder
3:31
When does Detroit cut Maeda loose?  He's pitching about as often as I am and his stuff just isn't there.  Certainly that roster spot could be better be used by someone else.
Anthony Franco
3:32
Don't understand why this hasn't happened already
PED use
3:32
Do you think fans give more leeway to players busted for steroids before they breakout like Logan Webb vs after like Fernando Tatis Jr?
Anthony Franco
3:34
Yeah definitely. I imagine a lot of fans just don't know that Webb had a PED ban because it happened at a time when most people (outside of Giants fans who were particularly focused on the farm system) had never heard of him
Obviously much more conspicuous when it happens with a player who had already emerged as a superstar
Dial O for Orevelis
3:34
Don't look at me for any power any time soon in Toronto.  I'm hitting .130 with a 40% K rate in Buffalo.  Am I finished as a prospect?
Anthony Franco
3:37
I'm sure there are teams that would still take a flier on the power but yeah, can't say I've got much hope on that one. The contact rates have ranged from poor to terrible throughout his minor league career. I think it's too much to expect him to ever consistently hit big league pitching
I Told Y'all So
3:37
The Dodgers had 10 stupid contracts to start the season, and Glasnow and Snell have added #11 and #12 from poor performance and missed time respectively. What is the top dollar amount Los Angeles can throw at the growing holes in their roster? There has to be a finite amount.
Anthony Franco
3:39
I mean, they're clearly not worried about it. They throw a ton of money at upside plays -- especially on the pitching staff -- with full understanding that most of them are going to get hurt because they only need a few healthy in October
