Happy Friday-If Matt Shaw can’t become the starter-level player the Cubs hoped, what are deadline options for third base? Paredes wasn’t on many radars last year, so there is hope for something beyond Urshela and DeJong. Thanks!

Suárez could go if the D-Backs feel Lawlar can step right in. If Bohm struggles to the point that the Phillies would rather have Sosa playing 3B, he'd make sense as a change of scenery guy

What would you do with the Candyman if you were running the Reds?
Anthony Franco
3:44
Basically what they are, I guess. I'm still clinging to hope that he can be semi-productive as a bench bat but Marte's above him at 3B. The contract is pretty clearly a bust but I'm not quite at the point where I'd release him. Not like they've got overwhelming bench depth
Dave Dombrowski
3:44
Moving Bryce Harper back to the OF or trying him at 3B is an easier answer than any of the solutions that I have kicked around/attempted/said I would try to cover the shortfalls in the Phillies lineup. Why haven't I done this yet?
Anthony Franco
3:46
Well third base would be really bold. I don't see that happening. They seem concerned about his health as a full-time outfielder but I agree with you that he could probably handle it on at least a part-time basis still
Breaking Point

Sasaki is averaging less than 4 innings a "Start." When do the Dodgers decide that that is unacceptable and send him down?
Anthony Franco
3:49
Not there yet but if the walks are still at this rate in three weeks, I could see them doing a reset. He's obviously more talented than the Knack/Wrobleski types they've been using as fill-ins, and it wouldn't be a great look to send him down unless they think he needs it for confidence purposes

Could the Orioles convince a team like the Marlins to do an early trade for a high level starting pitcher this early in the season? Would be an unusual time obviously but the rotation looks dire for the Orioles and they have the prospect capital to get things done.

Do you think the Orioles would consider dealing some, or all, of Mayo, Basallo, Kjerstad, Povich, and Young to get Alcantara? Are they still in the best position to acquire the biggest difference makers available with the depth of their young talent? Do you think they are almost in a corner and have to make that kind of deal just to prove that they are willing to pull the trigger?
Anthony Franco
3:52
Sandy hasn't looked great so far either. Wouldn't begrudge the O's for trying this early, but Alcantara's command has been shaky (not uncommon for pitchers immediately post-TJ) and he's got a career-low 17% strikeout rate. I think he'll be fine long term but it's not like he's a guaranteed savior either
Rafael Devers
3:52
Shouldn’t I be getting some reps at first base?  Protect against Casas underperformance/injury, and open up more space for the kids/even Masa Yoshida?
Anthony Franco
3:53
Casas rarely takes days off and the Sox seem to want Raffy getting comfortable with the mental challenge of staying locked in without getting any defensive work
3:54
I imagine they feel Devers could acclimate to first pretty easily if they got to a point where they needed him there, so it's better to have him in a routine at DH for now
Mr Met
3:54
I guess when you're the best team in baseball, there are no questions to ask. But I'll try one - who goes down when Minaea comes back who'se out of the rotation, unless the Mets go to a 6 man rotaion
Anthony Franco
3:56
Manaea's probably a month away and there's a good chance this sorts itself by injuries before then. Guess I'd say Canning to the bullpen if I had to choose right now
Steve DAVIS
3:56
Should I be concerned about Julio.
Anthony Franco
3:58
If you're talking from a fantasy perspective, maybe a little bit, because it's such a tough place to hit. Not worried overall though. He had an even worse start last year and came on really strong in the second half
Thank you for the chat!
3:58
what kind of extension is Jazz looking at?
Anthony Franco
3:59
Feels like he's in the Edman/Chris Taylor range. Power, athleticism, multi-positional ability but roughly league average offense. I'd have him at four years in the $60-70M range

Are the Tigers bailing on Colt Keith?
Anthony Franco

Plate discipline still looks good. Power was also nonexistent early last season and he picked it up by May. I'd give him a little more runway
My Cousin Franco

Who's your favorite namesake? Matt? Maikel? Julio? John?
Anthony Franco
4:03
Gotta be Maikel, the first Franco I followed as a prospect. Underwhelming career but I'll always have a soft spot. Good luck to him in Japan
Have to run here. Thanks for all the questions and, as always, for continuing to support the site!

I'm on X @affranco10 if you want to throw anything else at me on there. Steve will be back on Monday and I'll do this again a week from now. Have a great weekend!
