Do you believe max Muncy is out for another month or more like 2 weeks?  What I've read has made me a bit pessimistic-is there any hope for a quick return?
Anthony Franco
3:36
Yeah, feels like we're looking closer to a month. They've already slowed things way down from the initial projections that it'd be close to the minimum. He's still not swinging
Obliques typically take at least 3-4 weeks

Hey, Anthony.  A weekly thank you to you.  Does Mason Miller get any Cy Young votes?
Anthony Franco
3:37
He'll get some votes barring injury. Could finish in the top 10

How much is Alex Anthopoulos regretting that Sean Murphy/William Contreras trade?
Anthony Franco
3:38
Contreras is much better than they ever seemed to believe, but Murphy's a top five catcher who they immediately signed to an absurdly team-friendly contract
3:39
I'd rather have Contreras in retrospect, but it's not a disaster for the Braves. As for the A's taking Esteury Ruiz from Milwaukee for Contreras and Joel Payamps...

Shea Langeliers is a pretty good player, but man, that looked like a really strange move for Oakland at the time and has completely blown up in the last year and a half

3:40
Is Nick Gonzales for real?
Anthony Franco
3:42
Intrigued but I still need more to buy in completely. I was never a huge Gonzales fan at the draft or during his early prospect days because of the swing-and-miss. Still a lot of chase and whiffs in the limited MLB work this year, but he had better K/BB numbers in Triple-A and he's hitting for a ton of power
3:43
I'm more optimistic than I was two months ago obviously, but it's tough to be a consistent hitter with this kind of approach

3:43
Thoughts on Evan Carter? Normal growing pains or long-term underlying issues? Do you think he ends up as an everyday outfielder or a platoon outfielder?
Anthony Franco
3:44
Still think he'll be fine, good everyday player. First real adjustments to MLB pitching after he hit the ground running last fall
3:45
Also seems like he's been playing through the back issue for at least a couple weeks. That's probably part of the mediocre power numbers

Is Matt vierling legit?
Anthony Franco
3:47
I'm in. Decent power, good athlete, plus contact skills with consistently improving plate discipline
Personally thought Maton was the most interesting player they got in the Soto trade at the time, but I think the Tigers were always more excited about Vierling and that's borne out

Happy Friday, Anthony. With Ricky Tiedemann still not back from his elbow injury, is it likely the Jays keep him at Buffalo all year and let him get back into shape or will we see him up in July or August?
Anthony Franco
3:49
Still think we'll see him this year, probably in relief. Keeps his innings in check while potentially upgrading what has been a major problem for the Jays this year

What does the rest of Aaron Judge's career look like to be in the HOF?
Anthony Franco
3:52
I think he's getting in. Only needs like 15-20 more WAR to end up in the typical HOF range. He should fly past 400 homers, decent shot to get to 500 despite his age. Already has one MVP and could get another one this year

Why don't all reams just go ahead and have 6 man rotations?
Anthony Franco
3:53
There are a few drawbacks. Sixth starter isn't as good as at least the top 2-3, so you're taking innings from a superior pitcher. Teams are also limited to 13 pitchers, so a six-man rotation means you're carrying seven relievers instead of the typical eight
Some starters also just prefer the standard four-day rest schedule
3:54
A lot of teams will mix in six-man rotations when they're at a particularly rough point on the schedule, but if you've got a stretch with two or three off days in a two-week span, you're probably just leaving too many innings from your top starters on the table

Is skubal the favorite for the cy young?
Anthony Franco
3:56
He is for me. I think he's probably the best currently healthy pitcher in baseball
3:57
If I needed a starter for one game tomorrow (so no Cole/deGrom/Strider), I'd have a hard time choosing between Skubal and Wheeler. They'd be in a tier of their own IMO

Agree 100% Padres don't look great. As I kept saying to Nats fans who still complain, you weren't winning *with* Soto. As Corbin comes off the books, is this the offseason that the Nats go fishing for free agent pitching?
Anthony Franco
4:00
From a baseball perspective, next year is the right time. The Nats situation is complicated by the Lerners "will they, won't they sell" dance, but the payroll/position player core are falling into place and there are a decent number of upside starters who'll be available
Fried's the big one, but Buehler and Flaherty are out there. Severino looks good again

How soon is too soon for the Mariners to look outside of the organization to try and improve the offense? Is swinging a trade pre-ASB realistic? I don’t think they can just bank on the Rangers & Astros being this dysfunctional for much longer.

Please help: What can the M's do to reduce their strikeouts? It's painful to watch even if they are in first place.
Anthony Franco
4:03
Still too early to do much of note. The White Sox and Marlins are in full-on sell mode, but they don't have many hitters to market. Chicago's not going to trade Robert right now, Miami probably waits closer to the deadline with Jazz (not that the Mariners need a center fielder)
4:05
They're stuck waiting on a lot of the bubble teams -- Arizona, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Mets, San Diego, Tampa Bay. Alonso wouldn't do much about the strikeouts but he's clearly better than Ty France. Conforto would fit. Taylor Ward would be a nice piece if the Angels were to trade in-division
4:06
Rays could trade Isaac Paredes if they're out of it and want to give third base to Caminero. That's all stuff that wouldn't happen until right at the deadline though

4:07
Will the Pirates be buyers or sellers?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Still think they'll end up being soft sellers. Not real playoff contenders in 2024 but also past the point of the rebuild where they're shopping anyone particularly exciting
4:10
MAT would get moderate interest, Martín Pérez assuming he's healthy
