At the same time, I don't know that it really matters. He could do the disingenuous apology to true A's fans, the league feels so bad etc. etc. -- and he has -- but it's clearly not real. Oakland fans don't have any say in this, and the league doesn't care about them. It sucks, but it's true regardless of their public statements
Its my wedding anniversary and I would appreciat

As a Cardinals fan, I've been pretty critical of the front office, but after today's trade for Richie Palacios, I have to take back all of my criticism and I think every other critic should as well. The Cardinals just traded for the elite player they've been missing that will help them win now *and* in the future. There's no reason at all to believe he's just Tommy Edman or Brendan Donovan without the fielding. John Mozeliak saw the need to improve and he took decisive action to improve the team. And they gave up cash considerations to get him! That should silence all those complainers who say ownership should spend more! the NL pennant race just got a lot more interesting!

Happy anniversary?
(I like Richie Palacios)
4:31
But I understand your frustration haha

Thanks for the chat. Does Chase Silseth have a future as a starter?
Anthony Franco
4:31
Reliever for me, strike-throwing just has never been at a starter's level

Nolan Jones (Rockies) - is this just a hot start or is his production sustainable?
Anthony Franco
4:33
He strikes out way too often to hit over .300 but he's a patient hitter with plus power. I like him as a .250/.335/.460 type

4:33
Will Yoan Moncada ever be the player he was supposed to be?
Anthony Franco
4:34
Consistently enough? Probably not. The injuries keep mounting, and it's hard to develop any kind of offensive rhythm when you're not staying on the field
4:36
I think the 2019 season was basically what people expected from Moncada. .315/.367/.548 with 25 homers, around 5 WAR. Production was inflated by a huge BABIP that year but he showed power, strike zone awareness and decent contact skills
He just hasn't really come close to replicating it since then

The Giants are currently the #6 playoff team/3rd WC, a tenuous 1.5 game lead, w/4 teams <= 3 games back. When and whom do I pursue to improve the team for a potential playoff run?
Anthony Franco
4:38
It's a tricky team to upgrade because they're pretty good everywhere, not elite anywhere. They're similar to previous years' Cardinals teams in that regard. It's easier to add midseason if you have a position or two that are just complete black holes
4:40
I'd feel better about the pitching staff if they added another setup type to bridge the gap to Doval. Losing Haniger puts a lot of pressure on Luis Matos to hit the ground running. If Matos struggles over his first month, they're probably looking for another corner outfield back to push Yaz back to center
4:41
Brandon Crawford's kind of iffy for a win-now team, but this year's shortstop trade market looks terrible. I'd be open-minded to ways to upgrade there but don't really expect that to be attainable

4:41
Oh, great seer of all things baseball, which part-time player is going to have the better rest-of-the-season? DJ Lemahieu, Brandon Belt, or Edward Olivares?
Anthony Franco
4:42
I'd go Belt, Olivares, DJ
Rookie pitchers
4:42
Both Tanner Bibee (Cle) and Bryce Miller (Sea) have had great games—and stinkers. Who's closest to becoming a reliable top-of-the-rotation arm?
Anthony Franco
4:43
Like both obviously but I'm more confident in Bibee. The command track record is better
Marc
4:43
Any ideas what happened with Myles Straw? I wasn’t expecting miracles, but he hasn’t attempted a stolen base in almost a month.
Anthony Franco
4:44
Tough to steal bases when you never reach, I guess
4:45
I imagine he'll run more over time but I also think the Guardians have to be nearing the point where they pull the plug on him as an everyday player

Trade ideas for Cards, yes or no to these?  DeJong and Herrera to MIA for Edward Cabrera.  And Flaherty to HOU for Luis Garcia (obviously, more of a long-term move).  And maybe a third one, O'Neill to CLE for Bieber.  Pitching, pitching, pitching...
Anthony Franco
4:46
All three feel light from the Cardinals' end. Cabrera/Bieber ones wouldn't have any chance
4:47
The Astros cashing in Garcia, who's controllable through 2026 but just underwent TJS, for an immediate upgrade isn't totally impossible. It's not likely, though, and they should be able to do better than Flaherty if they entertained it

Someone said yesterday the Twins need to trade Sonny Gray, and to deal him immediately as a sell high. I disagree as he's been solid, but if they were to trade him, what's a realistic package?
Anthony Franco
4:48
He'd be the best rental starter available. They could probably get a fringe top 100 prospect as the headliner
4:49
I don't find it particularly realistic unless they absolutely collapse though. The division's there for the taking and this front office probably doesn't have a ton of leeway left to get back to the playoffs. Trading Gray is too cute

Why is Mark Vientos in NY if he's going to play once a week?
Anthony Franco
4:52
The bench skews left-handed, so Vientos' righty power adds some matchup help for Showalter. Agree it's probably not ideal for development but I've never been in on Vientos as an everyday player anyways. Limited defensive profile and just a generally stiff swing that has led to a lot of swing-and-miss in the minors

Which left handed hitters will the Astros go after?
Anthony Franco
4:54
Probably going to be a Seth Brown type. Corner outfielder/first baseman with a good track record of hitting RHP. Joc Pederson would make sense if the Giants fall out of it. Maybe the Rockies can find a taker for Jurickson Profar if he has a good month?

How much is the A's ownership putting into their new stadium in Vegas?  MLBTR has reported that the Nevada state government is putting in $380 million, but what is the stadium's total estimated cost and how much will the billionaire owners put in?
Anthony Franco
4:56
They're not our reports, just to clarify. The Vegas papers (Review-Journal, Nevada Independent) have been on the stadium details
To the actual question, though, the plan is for the stadium to cost around $1.5 billion. So a little over $1.1 billion would come from the A's

Michael Busch has been playing at third base recently for Oklahoma City. Does he have the arm for the position? The athleticism? One way or another, will he find regular or semi-regular at bats in LA over the next couple of years?
Anthony Franco
4:57
I saw him a lot in college and always felt like it was first base or left field only

Can Ryu help the Toronto staff this year?  Is that a realistic expectation?
