Anthony Franco

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well!
3:53
I'll jump in a few minutes early here since I'm around now and might have to duck out to cover the feed right at 4:00
Let's get rolling
Sandy alcantara
3:53
What’s Wrong with him and how good will he be going forward? What’s different from last years version of him?
emeraldcity
3:53
time to cut Alcantra?
Anthony Franco
3:54
This is an interesting one. Definitely weird to see him go from unquestioned NL Cy Young to ERA over 5.00 in one season
3:55
I don't think we're at the point where I'd seriously entertain cutting him in fantasy but he feels more like a guy I'd expect to post a mid-3.00s ERA than recapturing last year's form
3:56
Steve and I were discussing this last week, and he made the point that Miami's offseason wasn't good for a ground-ball specialist like Alcantara. They traded away Miguel Rojas (a plus shortstop), brought in Luis Arraez (who's a bad defensive second baseman) and moved Jean Segura and Joey Wendle out of position on the infield
3:57
The goal was to add some life to the offense, and it's obviously working in Arraez's case. But it's not a great fit behind Alcantara. Last year, opponents hit .171 on grounders against him. That's up to .241 this season. Putting a bad defensive infield behind him is having an effect
3:58
He's also just having a harder time finishing opponents off than he did last year. His pitch-for-pitch swinging strike numbers are the same, but in two-strike counts specifically, he's not getting as many whiffs and has seen a marked drop in called strikes. That feels kind of fluky, and I'd guess that'll bounce back. Putting away more hitters would mitigate some of the concerns about the defense, obviously
Green Ryu
3:59
Who gets sent down when Green and Ryu return to the Jays?
Anthony Franco
4:00
They'll each need 40-man spots since they're on the 60-day IL right now. Mitch White is out of options and like the last guy on the bullpen depth chart right now. Could see him getting DFA
4:01
Trent Thornton has hung around there forever and still has an option, but he just hasn't really taken the step forward they've expected. I'd guess he finds himself on the roster bubble before much longer
Twins offense
4:01
What “ rental” bat would be the best fit for the Twins lineup for ROS  -thanks
Anthony Franco
4:04
Corner outfield mix skews pretty left-handed and neither Gallo nor Kepler are doing much right now. I don't know that there's a rental specifically that fits this demographic -- Adam Duvall or Tommy Pham, maybe? -- but a right-handed bat to play the role they expected from Kyle Garlick would be nice
Will in Westport
4:04
I saw that Matt Manning reached 76 pitches in his rehab assignment last night … but nothing else.  You have any idea how he did?  When he will be back?
Anthony Franco
4:05
Four scoreless with only one hit but he walked five
I'd guess he makes one more start in Toledo to push to like 85-90 pitches and then comes back

Could the Cards move Flaherty this July? My thought is that he could bring back a similar level starter with more years of control. Might have to package him with Herrera or Baker. Thank you for doing the chats.
Thanks for the chat. Cardinals fan here, do you think Mo would entertain trading Gorman? My thought is that he would bring back a potential front line starter. Also, would like to see one of Yepez, Baker or Burleson moved. They seem redundant.  Thank you.
Anthony Franco
4:07
Flaherty: yeah, I think this is viable. Depends on whether they play their way back into it obviously -- the NL Central can turn pretty quickly since nobody's all that good -- but he's a borderline QO candidate who they probably aren't extending. If they're not making the playoffs this year, move him
4:10
Gorman: that's a tougher call. Probably not categorically off the table -- he was reportedly in the Juan Soto discussions last summer -- but he's a good hitter with five seasons of club control. There are enough defensive concerns I don't think he'd land a potential front-end starter who's controllable for three-plus years but he's too good to give up for a rental
4:12
Shane Bieber's got a year and a half left. Maybe the pure value lines up there but Gorman doesn't feel a very Guardians-style player because of the defense and swing-and-miss
Las Vegas A's
4:12
Why is Oak Vegas keeping Jordan Diaz in AAA when his bat might actually help the major-league AAAA team?
Anthony Franco
4:13
I'd probably give Diaz another look just to see if there's anything there but they've called him up twice before and he hasn't hit
Wallflower
4:13
Does anyone pick up Zunino?
Anthony Franco
4:14
Catching situations around the league are bad enough I think he'll sign a major league deal, yeah
4:16
He's been terrible this year, but Miami has gotten nothing out of their catchers and Boston just lost Reese McGuire to an oblique strain. San Diego has gotten good work from Gary Sánchez but very little out of Nola
Sultans of Swing
4:16
What happens to Aaron Hicks when Mullins (& Mountcastle) comes back?
Cory
4:16
After years of watching the Orioles let players go and turn into major assets on other teams, it’s refreshing to see them flip the script on players like O’Hearn and Hicks thus far. Do you think they will continue to contribute in the playoff push?
Anthony Franco
4:17
I remain an O'Hearn skeptic since he was not good for a long while in Kansas City, but he's killing the ball right now in a way I wouldn't have thought he could for even a month
4:19
Hicks obviously isn't as good as he's played in Baltimore so far but I like him as part of an outfield rotation. He should stick around as the fourth outfielder over McKenna once Mullins comes back
tigersFan
4:20
When will the tigers call up Parker meadows? Seems he'd be at least a little better than Marisnick.
Anthony Franco
4:20
Season numbers are just ok but he's been on a tear in June. Wouldn't surprise me if he's up before the All-Star Break
Bernie Franks
4:20
First of all Thank you for the Chats. Do you think the Cubs will be buyers or sellers or a little bit of both? I think Stroman is as good as gone. Hope they get a boat load for him
Anthony Franco
4:21
Tom Ricketts said yesterday they're approaching the deadline as buyers at the moment
4:22
I think they should deal Bellinger and Stroman unless they're leading the division at the end of July. I don't think they actually would if they're still within 3-4 games, as they are right now
Big Bob
4:22
What's your prediction for Emmett Sheehan tonight? Runs, hits, innings pitched. Also overall for the Dodger rookie pitchers. Are they for real
Thanks
