Anthony Franco

Ha, a single game prediction is impossible. Let's go with 5 1/3 IP, five hits, three runs, five strikeouts
4:25
As for the overall Dodger pitching staff, I like Miller and Stone more than Sheehan. The control with Sheehan is improving but still not good. Miller looks awesome; Stone hasn't done well in his limited MLB looks but I remain in on him based on the changeup
Marcus Stroman
4:25
How about the Dodgers trade Gavin Stone in return for the three-month rentals of both Marcus Stroman and Mark Leiter?  Stone was/is a consensus top 100 MLB prospect, but he does not look ready to shine in 2023.
Anthony Franco
4:26
Related: I would not give up Stone for Stroman and Mark Leiter Jr. if I were the Dodgers

Any idea what kind of RSN deal John Fisher will get when he moves to Vegas?  Couldn't be the $50 mil he gets in Oakland.  Dumb move.  Unfair to the fans.  Can't imagine he'll do better there than he would have had Howard Terminal gotten built in Oakland.  ($3 Billion deal broke down over $88 Million.)  What do you think, Anthony.?
Anthony Franco
4:28
The RSN stuff is kind of out of my wheelhouse, so I'm not sure. I hadn't even considered what that might look like. The RSN model seems to be crumbling everywhere so maybe the A's just don't care about it as much as they would've 5-10 years ago
4:29
I don't know about the business sense for the A's in making the move. If Fisher, Kaval and company didn't think it were the more profitable decision, they wouldn't be doing it. They're better businesspeople than I am, so I'd trust their judgment on it over my own
4:31
Obviously I feel really bad for Oakland fans though. The organization hasn't even pretended to care about them for a while now, and the city has lost three teams in six years. It's brutal

Joey Votto...in or out?  Bud Selig..enormous growth of the game...but the steroid scandal...in or out?  Rob Manfred...dynamic change to the game (and more to come)...but lousy with the press and in his public statements.  In or out?                                                                                                                                                                                                   As always, thanks for the chat.
Anthony Franco
4:32
Votto's a yes for me. Won an MVP, six top ten finishes. He's gotten on base almost 3500 times, going to be over 350 homers
4:34
I'm ambivalent on the commissioners. They tend to get in, so Manfred probably will someday. If you want to use the "can you tell the history of the sport without this person" question, I don't think you would without Manfred. He's been at the forefront of a bunch of rule changes (universal DH, pitch clock, shift ban, extra-inning runner) that fundamentally changed the way the sport operates
4:35
Is he a good commissioner? I don't know. His main job is to make money for the league's owners. He seems pretty good at that, and they keep bringing him back
4:36
But fans are going to have mixed feelings on the rule changes. We had a work stoppage that pushed to the brink of losing games for the first time in almost three decades. Did he handle the Astros' sign-stealing stuff correctly? I'm not sure
Dejected Padres Fan
4:37
Hi Anthony. Now that the Padres season is seemingly over, do they have enough rental players they can trade away to get under the luxury tax altogether?
Anthony Franco
4:38
Certainly aren't going to be able to get all the way back below $233MM. They could duck below the $273MM mark that'd push their draft pick back by 10 spots. They're right on the border of that as is. Trading Josh Hader or Blake Snell alone would do it
4:39
I'm not there yet. They're 5.5 out of the Wild Card. It's a really talented roster and the front office and ownership have invested a lot in it. I imagine they'll drag it out until the last second to see if they can get on a roll before pulling the plug
Joe J.
4:39
Yankees more likely to buy or sell at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
4:40
Still buy. Underwhelming season so far but they're in possession of a Wild Card spot despite not having had Rodón at any point and a fairly long stretch without Judge
4:41
Somewhat similar (but better, in the Yankees' case) situation to San Diego. The organization has invested a lot in making this team an immediate contender. They're not going to tear it down unless the path to playoff contention becomes almost impossible to envision

4:41
Lorenzen back to reds makes a lot of sense.  What do you think he would cost?   Cease would be perfect but he would cost way more.  What kind of prospects would he command?
Anthony Franco
4:43
Lorenzen's a fine fit for the Reds, yeah. He's not exciting but they could just use some back-end stability. Not much trade value there, probably get him for a prospect in the 20-30 range in the system if they're willing to take back what remains of the $8.5MM salary
4:44
Cease would obviously be in another stratosphere. Two and a half years of arb control. Not having his best year but he's shown Cy Young caliber potential
I don't think the Sox will make him available this summer, full stop. If they did, it should cost the Reds more than they got for either Castillo or Mahle last summer based on the extra year of arbitration
Wondering About Wander
4:44
What did Wander do to get benched for multiple days for not being "a good teammate"?
Anthony Franco
4:47
Marc Topkin's report pointed to some instances of lack of hustle, verbal spats with teammates, slamming things in the dugout. Nothing in that report suggested he was a bad guy -- Cash went on record to stress the opposite -- but it seems like he's had some instances where he could've controlled his emotions better throughout the year and the Rays felt they had to step in to send a message
I don't think it'll be a big deal in the long run. He'll probably be back in there on Saturday and they'll move forward
Dodger Dave
4:47
Would it cost Dodgers 2 top 100 prospects plus another “lottery ticket” or 2 prospects for Anderson and Giolito?
Anthony Franco
4:49
I would've said yes at the beginning of the year but that feels lofty given the season Anderson's having. He's got a .249/.290/.292 line without a home run in 52 games now
4:50
Everyone has been waiting for him to bounce back, and he probably will, but at some point he has to perform or there's just not much trade appeal there
Dave
4:50
I'm in an AL-only keeper auction league and injuries have buried my chances of winning this year so I'm thinking about next season.  Looking at a trio of MIN OFs in Kepler, Taylor, and Kirilloff.  I have them all at inexpensive prices but wondering if it's worth keeping any of them to see if they get into a groove in the 2nd half of the season or if I should just cut bait and find some other lottery tickets to hang onto.
Anthony Franco
4:51
Kirilloff's good. I don't know how deep your rosters are but I'm guessing you could do better than the other two
Taylor has always been much more defense-focused. Kepler looked like a budding star a few years ago but the offense just keeps going backwards
Marc
4:52
Are we going to see Darick Hall back in the majors soon? He came off the IL and disappeared.
Anthony Franco
4:54
Yeah I don't know what they're waiting for on that one. Kody Clemens hit pretty well in May but he's hit a really rough patch lately. Feels like Hall should just get the strong side platoon reps at this point
Berger Cookies
4:54
Between Kyle Bradish, Dean Kremer, and Jhony Brito, who has the better short-term future, and who has the better long-term future? (In an auction league, I have Brito at a ridiculous $1. The others are at the league average $10.)
Anthony Franco
4:55
Slight preference for Bradish among the group but I think they're generally in the same tier
4:56
I don't know if that means I'd take Brito then? I've never played in an auction league so I'm not sure how the prices work
Marcus Stroman
4:56
I expect to be a Cub next year. But for the remainder of this year, would the Dodgers and Giants seem like possible destinations?  What would I cost for a three-month rental, maybe one team top-6 prospect?
Anthony Franco
4:58
Those teams work. Bunch of possibilities though: Orioles, Angels, D-Backs if they can swing it financially all seem viable. Most contenders could use a rotation upgrade
The quality of a top six organizational prospect obviously varies. The Dodgers' #6 prospect is a hell of a lot better than the Braves'. But broadly speaking, I think someone in the 6-10 range in an average farm system as the headliner is about right
