Likewise! Second base feels like the clearest path. They already optioned Julien. Castro's better suited for a utility role
4:38
If Lee forces his way up, it probably pushes Castro to the bench and could force Farmer off the roster, even if they love him in the clubhouse and his versatility

Yankees are pulling away from the Os. Time to panic in Baltimore?
Anthony Franco
4:39
It's a long season and they're at least going to be a Wild Card team. I think the East will be a battle into September though
AL West
4:39
What's the deal with the AL West? Texas and Houston seem to have imploded, while Seattle's in first place despite its hitters being at the bottom of nearly every hitting category—not just in the division, but in all the majors. (In the other divisions, Seattle wouldn't be anywhere near the top. Yeah, it's starters are OK, but without Matt Brash and Gregory Santos, its bullpen, except for the newly injured Muñoz, has been precarious.) Why has the AL Best turned into the AL Worst?
Anthony Franco
4:40
Texas and Houston were mostly hit hard by rotation injuries. Corey Seager wasn't really firing on all cylinders for a while. Mediocre offense has been the story for the Mariners for a while
4:42
It's been underwhelming, though. I expected Houston and Texas to be better than they have been -- still think the Rangers will be fine. 36-28 for Seattle is solid, but you're right that they haven't gotten there in the most overwhelming way
Chris
4:42
If he returns and shows he's healthy and effective, what could the Nats get for Trevor Williams?
Anthony Franco
4:44
Probably a couple 40 FV type prospects, guys who’d be in the 15-25 range of a system. I wasn’t big on his trade value before the flexor strain. Even with the repertoire change, he’s not missing a ton of bats. The forearm’s going to be a bit of a concern even if he gets back on the mound before the end of July

Opinion of N.Gonzalez. Breakout campaign or flash in the pan?
Anthony Franco
4:45
Had a similar question on Gonzales last week, I believe, but I'm intrigued while still being generally wary of the approach and pure contact skills
4:46
Guess I'd be closer to "flash in the pan" than completely sold on this as a breakout, but I'm somewhere in the middle
Boras
4:46
Taking ownership money aside, would your rather have White sox players and prosects or Mets players and prospects?
Anthony Franco
4:47
Hmm, I’d lean Mets. Sox have more high-end talent with Robert, Crochet, Colson Montgomery but the Mets have a lot more roster depth in the majors – a lot of whom they can trade to continue building the farm this summer

How much relief do you think the Cardinals front office felt after seeing Jake Woodford get DFA'd instead of becoming a quality major league player a la Flaherty, Palacios, Arozarena, Garcia, Gallen, Alcantara, Thomas, O'Neil, etc.  Imagine feeling relief that a CB-A round picks gets DFA'd.
Anthony Franco
4:49
Ha, I doubt the front office has anything against Jake Woodford personally that'd make them happy that he lost his job, but I see your point. Every team has guys that got away but you can build a pretty good nucleus out of former Cardinals prospects
Harold Lost
4:49
Why couldn't the Rays have DFA'd H-Ram for Caminero when he was healthy instead of for Taylor Walls?
Anthony Franco
4:51
I don't really understand why Caminero wasn't up earlier. It's a moot point now that he's hurt again -- and they presumably didn't want to bring him up to play four games in two weeks before Walls came back -- but they've got enough moving parts that I thought they could've fit him in around the infield
Sevi fan
4:51
Do you think Luis Severino will be traded at the deadline?  (If so, whom do you think he might be traded to?)  What kind of chance do you think the Mets have to resign him in the offseason?  Thank you very much.
Anthony Franco
4:52
Yeah, I’d be surprised if Sevy doesn’t move. Tough to pick a specific team because almost every contender could use rotation help. Seems safe to say he’s not going back to the Yankees. Beyond that, pretty much everyone could make it work. I’ll go San Diego

Who is worth more in a trade, Erik Fedde or Pete Alonso?
Anthony Franco
4:53
Fedde’s a lot cheaper, got the extra control year and could fit anywhere with all the pitching injuries. It's not the same name value but he should bring back more than Pete
Re: Bichette
4:53
I was joking in the earlier comment about Atkins reversing course. I'd also be surprised. Just wondering if you could game out a (loose) package from either the Giants or Guardians, who I agree would be good fits. I realize it depends what the Jays would ask for, but let's say they're trying to shake things up and retool around Vlad plus the other big contracts they have.
Anthony Franco
4:56
He's still a franchise shortstop despite the slow start. Relatively costly but under below market value for another year and a half. It'd need to be multiple high-end prospects
4:57
Whichever of Rocchio or Manzardo the Jays prefer plus a Jaison Chourio type seems like a fair ask, to use Cleveland as an example. I don't think the Guards would do it
A's Fan
4:57
Could JP Sears bring back a Top 100 prospect? Does Dave Forst know what a Top 100 prospect is?
Anthony Franco
4:58
Yeah I think a friend top 100 guy is viable for Sears. If that's not on the table, I don't get why the A's would feel motivated to move him
5:00
He's probably not as good as Aaron Civale was  in Cleveland, but they got Manzardo for two and a half seasons of Civale last summer. Four and a half years of Sears seems in the same ballpark from a value perspective
Old_Chief
5:00
Would Boston move O'Neill? If so, would a 45 FV pitcher be enough?
Anthony Franco
5:01
Feels right, maybe at the high end of what they can expect. We'll see where they're at in the standings come July but O'Neill's a plausible trade candidate, sure
Tom Fonthill
5:01
How would you rate these Blue Jays prospects -- Spencer Horwitz, Orelvis Martinez, Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes ??
Anthony Franco
5:01
Orelvis, Horwitz, Barger, Lukes
5:02
Orelvis is the only one who seems like a potential regular. Horwitz and Barger could be bat-first utility guys. Lukes is a fifth outfielder for me

The Braves offensive woes continue Do they have a clubhouse leader or anyone with fire to ignite them? Snitker redefines complacency
Anthony Franco
5:05
I get a lot of variations on this question but I don't really buy that there's any kind of leadership vacuum on a team that had won seven straight division titles coming into this season. I know they lost Wash, but I'm not worried about the Braves at all
They've got a ton of talent and they're playing reasonably well overall despite Acuna having a middling season even before the injury. Philadelphia running away with the East says more about the Phils than it does the Braves IMO
JL
5:06
Chances the Os go big and trade for multiple pitchers?  Perhaps from Miami?
Anthony Franco
5:07
I don't think they need to go that far (unless someone else goes down to injury). Burnes, Bradish, Rodriguez is a good top three. The depth is a little shaky but that's less of a concern in a short playoff series
5:08
I'd feel really good about it if they got one mid-rotation guy. Hesitant to say that two is overkill (cue the cliché about too much pitching) but it'd probably be costlier from a prospect perspective than they want to do
Mets
5:08
I don't get all the discussion about Alonso. If he was on the royals, we wouldn't be constantly debating whether they will trade a .315 OBP guy with good power and bad defense. He has played over 216 games since 2022.
