I'd take the field on Ohtani post-2023
Down with the Monarchy

Are the Royals still going to find buyers after all this, maybe to the NL? Will it put pressure to move some of the vaxxed guys, Barlow maybe?
Andrew Benintendi
3:20
Do you think he vax status affects his trade value or is it being overblown?
Anthony Franco
3:20
Yeah I think it's been pretty overblown honestly. It's a huge consideration for Toronto, maybe a small one for a few AL teams, and basically not a concern at all for anyone in the NL
3:21
Is it ideal? No. The Jays made for a great fit for Benintendi on paper, and I'm sure the Royals would've preferred they be involved in the bidding. But at overall trade value is going to be pretty marginal
Sandy G
3:21
Mets' Mark Vientos, JD Davis and Drew Smith for Bucs' David Bednar. Are the Bucs interested?
Anthony Franco
3:22
I wouldn't do it if I were Pittsburgh but I'm also lower than consensus on Vientos. I don't think it's a laughable proposal or anything given reliever volatility
3:23
They've apparently shot down Bednar offers already though and don't seem to have much interest in moving him. Longshot trade candidate at best
Charles in Charge
3:23
What's your take on the Charlie Montoyo firing?
Anthony Franco
3:24
I was surprised obviously. Pretty rare to see a change when a team's in playoff position as the Jays were
There are always behind-the-scenes factors that go into these decisions, though, stuff no one on the outside is really privy to. A few players had some anonymous quotes afterwards about Montoyo maybe not lighting enough fire in the clubhouse and things like that
3:25
And if that's the case, then sure, I get why the front office felt they had to it
3:26
Feel bad for him though because everyone was pretty unanimous in their praise for him personally. Hopefully he lands on his feet somewhere soon
Giants fan
3:26
Who says no? Marco Luciano (as the only blue chip prospect in a 4-5 player package) for both Sean Murphy and Ramon Laureano
Anthony Franco
3:26
A's
3:27
Luciano's a hell of a starting point but I think they'd have to get multiple top-tier prospects to part with Murphy/Laureano as a package, just to diversify their risk a little bit

3:27
Do you agree that Raimel Tapia seems to be a better 4th outfielder than Randal Grichuk?
Anthony Franco
3:27
I guess? They're both just bad, really
Mike D
3:28
Besides the addition of Castillo, don’t you think Kyle Farmer and Tyler Naquin would be solid pick up for the yanks?  Farmer seems like a gritty yankee type and the yanks need a lefty bat badly.    Would these three be enough to acquire Volpe and Dominguez?
Anthony Franco
3:28
I don't think they'd have much interest in Farmer given their infield depth. Naquin kind of fits there if they move Gallo, sure
3:29
But to your other question about those guys tipping the scales so they put Volpe and Dominguez in a Castillo package, that isn't happening
3:30
Farmer/Naquin are fringe add-ons to a trade. There's some value but no one's giving up a top prospect because either one got tacked on at the back of the deal
Brad
3:30
What does Cashman have against Adujar?
Anthony Franco
3:31
Defensive limitations with a bad approach, hasn't had success in his sparse looks since 2018
3:32
If you want to argue for him over Gallo, I get it. But I don't think Andújar's a slam-dunk regular at this point, particularly not for a team with 2022 championship aspirations
Madag
3:32
How will Houston’s negotiations with Kyle Tucker be impacted by Yordan Alvarez's contract?
Anthony Franco
3:33
It's a precedent point for an extension for a star hitter in the 3-4 year service bucket but I don't think it has much more bearing than that
3:34
They're different players, Alvarez probably a little bit better. I'm sure Houston would love to keep them both but I don't think the fact that they're on the same team means a whole lot once they get to the negotiating table
Brad
3:34
What happened to Clint Frazier? I feel like he can still be a good player if given the opportunity
Anthony Franco
3:35
He was bad for the Cubs, cleared waivers. He's been ok in Triple-A since then but not great. Likely to be a free agent again at the end of the year
Stever
3:35
Realistically...what do u see milwaukee doing?  How can this offense get meaningful help?
Anthony Franco
3:36
I've pushed them as a fit for Benintendi for a while, and Heyman reported last night they're among the teams with interest. Still think plugging him in center field makes a lot of sense
Two trade proposals and a comment
3:36
Brewers trade Josh Hader to the Mariners for Kelenic and Emerson Hancock. Brewers trade Hader to the Yankees, the Giants get Sal Frelick and Ken Waldichuk, and the Brewers get Oswaldo Perez, Joc Pederson, Carlos Rodon, and cash from Giants. Mlbtraderumors is the best of the traderumors sites at answering questions in chats.
Anthony Franco
3:37
Too much for Hader on both accounts. Mariners wouldn't give up Kelenic/Hancock, Yankees wouldn't give up Peraza/Waldichuk
Matt
3:37
Miguel Sano is tearing it up on his rehab assignment. It appears they have too many guys. What do the Twins do with him and Larnach (when he’s healthy)?
Anthony Franco
3:38
Yeah it's a tricky spot. Sanó might just be a DFA candidate
Could option Miranda and keep Sanó as the right-handed first base/DH guy to start, but I'm guessing the leash would be pretty short if Miranda goes to St. Paul and mashes

There is the obvious comparison of the MLB draft to the NFL and NBA drafts, where the top pick nets you a player who can immediately make a difference. How often do college players join the ML team roster within a year? Do prep players always take at least 2-3 years?
Anthony Franco
3:39
There are like one or two college guys who get to the majors within a year each season. Chase Silseth is the only one from last year, I believe
