Basically impossible for a prep player to get there before two, yeah. Trout's basically the floor for that kind of thing, took just under two
He's, obviously, not the norm

With Seattle needing more offense from second base is Ty France the answer? The Ms now have Carlos Santana at first and Kyle Lewis will be back up soon probably taking the bulk of DH at bats. Or do you think there is a better option?
Anthony Franco
3:41
They make sense as a Brandon Drury fit but a bunch of teams do. The second base market is terrible, so there's not much beyond that unless the Royals go through with dealing Merrifield
3:43
If they go status quo, France to second is probably the play so long as Santana's hitting. That's not a given though -- he was generally bad for his entire time in K.C. -- so it's not of the question he underperforms enough they wind up circling back to Frazier/Toro/Moore there and hoping one of them performs

A week or two or three ago I asked what the Jays should be looking for as a "straw to stir the drink" inasmuch as they were a 2nd tier playoff team not really ready to challenge for the WS w/o some significant upgrades. Now I am wondering, with last place considerably more likely than first, (and something in between more likely than both but the WC being very insecure), have they gone from clear "buyers" to being "opportunists", i.e., "buyers" if it is the right deal, but also maybe surprise "sellers" if the "buyers" market is not working for them? Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
3:43
Nah I don't think that's under consideration. The team is still way too talented and close to the Wild Card picture to go that route

3:43
What should we expect from Max Meyer?
Anthony Franco
3:44
I expect him to be pretty good right out of the gate. Maybe some platoon concerns because the changeup's behind the other two offerings. Could be a little home run prone based on the fastball shape
3:45
But he's going to miss bats and get a bunch of grounders. Think he'll keep the ERA just under 4.00, better than Elieser Hernández or Dan Castano
Ron
3:45
Hi Anthony, What do you think would be the best moves for the Dodgers at the trade deadline?  Thanks and keep up the good work!
Anthony Franco
3:45
Thanks Ron! I expect them to be firmly in the mix for Castillo or Montas, since they love stockpiling high-end pitching (who wouldn't) and consistently have the farm depth to make those kinds of deals
3:46
Bullpen feels like an obvious need too with the injuries to Treinen and Hudson. Doesn't have to be a huge splash, could just get a Joe Jiménez type to deepen the mid-late innings
3:47
Position player group generally feels ok. Maybe you want a better right-handed depth option than Alberto but nothing there feels like an absolute must so long as Taylor's progressing well
Mike
3:47
In your opinion who do you think the Yankees will acquire?
Anthony Franco
3:48
David Peralta and a depth starter, Drew Smyly type
Don't think they'll wind up making any huge splash since the roster's already so good
Bobby Witt
3:48
With Merrifeld, Benintendi, and Taylor’s vaccination status, how far do they come down on the Top 50 Trade Candidates list? Do any of them drop out, and if so, who takes their place(s)?
Anthony Franco
3:49
Addressed this earlier but I wouldn't change their places at all personally
Bill
3:49
Braves deadline moves will be ?????
Anthony Franco
3:50
I still like them to add another bat, probably a corner outfield/DH type. Could see them as a fit for Santander or Mancini if Baltimore did sell
3:51
Maybe one of the Reds guys, Naquin or Pham
I mostly agree with Anthopoulos' statement yesterday that the team is pretty good everywhere and doesn't have glaring needs. Could just use some general offensive help so you're not relying so much on Duvall, Rosario and Ozuna
Tony La Russa
3:51
Who’s fired next: me or the field?
Anthony Franco
3:52
Field, given La Russa's personal ties to Reinsdorf
Nick Krall
3:52
What is the best package for Castillo?  Who do yo think lands him and for who?
Anthony Franco
3:52
I'll probably waffle on this a few times over the next couple weeks but I think I'd go Dodgers right now
3:53
Michael Busch and Ryan Pepiot perhaps?

Of all the rookies KC called up, how would you rank them in terms of stayinhg with the team once it leaves KC and taking into account possible trades? Maikel Garcia and Michael Massey seem the most advanced—but they didbn't play in the first game. Nick Pratto gets the most publicity, but he looks more like Jarred Kelenic given his K's. Angel Zerpa has a mediocre minor-league record, but got a win last night. Eaton is rated poorly for BA and power, yet he got an HR?
Anthony Franco
3:54
They'll probably all go back down. The guys who weren't previously on the 40-man definitely will
Pratto's the only one I could see sticking around immediately, although guys like Zerpa, Garcia and eventually Massey will be back at some point
Old Number 7
3:54
Do Braves have any prospect capital left to swing a deal for an impact reliever?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Sure but I don't think it'll be a priority with Yates coming back. Atlanta's bullpen is already really good
RAGBRAI
3:55
What moves does Philly make? Is an OF upgrade their biggest need or just a good bat? Is their SP strong/stable enough to get them to a WC game?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Bullpen's a problem again. I'm sure they'll try to make a push for Laureano or Taylor to address center field
3:56
Is it possible to make the playoffs with this roster? Sure. But I think they're worse the Cardinals and Giants as constructed so I'd pick against them right now
RAGBRAI
3:57
What is the ROS outlook for Ruiz in SD? Is he up for good or could a possible trade cause him to be sent back down? Is he currently the future CF for SD?
Anthony Franco
3:58
They'll keep looking for outfield upgrades that could get him sent back down. I'm intrigued by the tools and this year's performance, but they left him unprotected in the Rule 5 last year and took forever to call him up this summer
Doesn't seem like they think he's a long-term regular center fielder
Michael harris
3:58
How good is he actually? Is he a career 120 ops+ guy in center?
