A fill in the blank for you this week. Shohei Ohtani could get injured on _____________________ and still win the AL MVP award.

Man this is a great question. August 15?
4:52
Corey Seager feels like the top competition to me if he keeps up anything like this pace for the rest of the year. Seager missed a month early on. He's going to lead Texas to the playoffs but obviously doesn't match Ohtani in terms of overall value on a rate basis

I am on track to earn my 2024
Given my current production ( ops+106, .244/.344/.413), if I opted out, could I get a multi-year deal, exceeding my $18M for 2024? Or should I stay & play out 2024 w/SF, seeking out a multi-year after ‘24?
Anthony Franco
4:53
A big second half could change this but if he keeps on this trajectory, I think he's staying in SF
4:54
Another fine but impactful offensive season, middling defensive marks in the corner outfield. The market liked Conforto more than I expected last winter coming off the shoulder surgery, but there's less mystique now than there was six months ago.

Seattle is said to be ready to limit Woo. Realistically, what are the options to do this, given their bid for the playoffs and the fact that he's been pretty good in the Show? Back to AAA, what's really the difference? If not, then what?

Dipoto talked about this on his radio hit yesterday. Said they might go to a six-man rotation briefly or leverage an off day to skip a start or two but they had no plans to take him out of the rotation altogether

I want the Yankees to trade for Brendon Donovan. Think they will?
Anthony Franco
4:56
I don't think the Cardinals will trade Donovan at all

What is your opinion about Ranger Suarez short and long term?
Anthony Franco
4:57
Don't see any reason to think his current form (mid-3.00s ERA, huge grounder rates, average K/BB profile) isn't sustainable. Not an ace but a good #3 starter
4:59
Guess if they added a better defensive third baseman than Bohm, that would help Suárez more than the rest of the staff since he's so grounder-heavy and going to face a lot of RHH. It's marginal though and that wouldn't really change how I feel about Suárez as a pitcher even if his results get slightly better

Keston Hiura's K% is down to 24% in AAA.  Could he be a factor for the Brewers down the stretch?
Anthony Franco
5:00
I'm surprised they haven't given him a look already, yeah. I'm done expecting him to produce against big league pitching, but he's again destroying Triple-A pitching and at least making a little more consistent contact, as you mentioned

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I see what you mean but a delay of game penalty doesn't in itself end the game.
Anthony Franco
5:02
Yeah I get that. I think it's very unlikely we'd see a walk-off pitch clock violation, though, and a shot clock turnover on a final possession in basketball could essentially end a game

Chances each of the following pitch for LA in 2023. Buehler Treinen Feyereisen
Anthony Franco
5:04
Seems unlikely for Treinen. Buehler's got a chance to come back as a reliever if everything goes perfectly. No updates on Feyereisen since February. Not sure there

Well, that about does it for the Cubs in ‘23. In return for Stroman, Bellinger, & Co., would you be going for “best prospect” or a specific position of need (like third base) knowing that they’ll ramp up to go for it in ‘24?
Matt
5:04
How are the Cubs going to acquire the big bat or two they need between now and spring training?
Bernie Franks
5:05
Hi Anthony when do the Cubs pull the plug and reload for next year? It seems like a broken record every year
Anthony Franco
5:07
I'd look for upper minors talent more so than worrying specifically about position. I think they should be prioritizing players who can help by '24 but wouldn't worry about looking for a third baseman specifically. Filling MLB needs is more of a free agency or offseason trade goal
5:09
They've got a decent amount of payroll space next year with Heyward officially off the books. The free agent market is really light on bats but I imagine they'll be in on Chapman, maybe a Rhys Hoskins rebound flier
5:10
Alright that's all I have time for today, have to take over the main site
Thanks for all the questions! Sorry for the stuff I couldn't address, this was the busiest chat we've had since at least the Winter Meetings
5:11
I'm on Twitter if you want to throw anything at me there, and we'll do this again next Friday
Thanks as always for supporting the site! Hope you all have a great weekend!
