Skenes

That gap between minors and majors isn’t so big after all
Anthony Franco
3:28
Ha not when you have Paul Skenes' talent
Dave

Should Dodgers include any their young starters Ryan, Miller, Stone, Wrobleski in a deal involving Crochet from CWS?
Dills
3:28
What would it take for the Cubs to get Rushing from LA?  Would Taillon work?
Anthony Franco
3:29
Certainly would not give up Rushing for Tailllon if I were the Dodgers, even if the Cubs paid down Taillon's entire contract. I'd probably have Rushing off the table for everyone who seems like they're available other than Skubal, Robert and maybe Crochet
3:31
Stone's a tough guy to give up considering how well he's pitching for them right now. My guess is the Dodgers would prefer to build a Crochet package around some group of Ryan, Wrobo and De Paula. Not sure that's enough on the Sox end. Probably depends on whether they feel Ryan's a future #2/3 type
Philly A's
3:31
I felt that the A's asking price for Miller was steep for a small body (although impressive) amount of experience as a closer/rp.  Does his value decrease because he's on the IL again, albeit from his own fault?
Anthony Franco
3:32
Obviously it doesn't help but unless he's going to miss the rest of the season, it shouldn't move his value that much
Just seems like the A's were pricing him beyond where anyone wanted to go to begin with
Jonathan India
3:32
Are the Reds trading me?
Anthony Franco
3:34
I think his trade value would dip from here forward and they're far enough back in the Wild Card mix that I'd be open to moving him if I were them
Jon Heyman wrote yesterday that they're reluctant to do it and more likely to just offload Montas and a couple of their unexciting relievers though

Erick Fedde underperformed terribly for the Nats for years, went to Korea for a single year and bloomed to the point of being one of the hottest trade pieces this week. We DC fans suspect that our team has been terrible at developing pitchers. Is that fair, or was their something in the bibimbap?
Anthony Franco
3:35
Fedde overhauling things in Korea and almost immediately hitting his #3 type ceiling isn't a great look for the Nats
3:36
Feels like they left meat on the bone there but they've also gotten a lot more than expected out of Irvin and Parker this year. Still optimistic about Cavalli, Gore has improved. Gray was solid before the injury
3:37
Wouldn't say they've had a bad track record with pitching overall
The Willies of SF
3:37
Would a package of Luciano, Matos and Mason Black be enticing to the Cgris Getz (White Sox) for Luis Robert Jr. Or is it too light, and if so, what more might be needed?
Chris Getz us
3:37
With the Mariners/Arozarena deal done, how is the market for Robert Jr looking now?
Anthony Franco
3:39
Yeah I think that Giants offer is way light. Feels like you'd at least need Eldridge as a centerpiece and the Sox could justifiably hold out for Kyle Harrison if they're not as high on Eldridge
Metsfan
3:39
If the Mets ignore cries to upgrade modestly and instead are willing to move prospects and attempt to make a huge splash, and really “go for it,” whom do you think the Mets would target at the trade deadline? Thank you.
Anthony Franco
3:40
I don't think they will, in large part because they've already got a pretty well-rounded roster.  There aren't a ton of problem areas beyond the bullpen, which isn't the spot to leverage young talent and go for it
3:42
Guess you could argue for the Mets to push in on Robert? Bader's only around for one year, commit to keeping Nimmo in the corner after this season. Cut into playing time for McNeil and Marte (once healthy) and build an elite defensive outfield for the next couple months

The Nats have Jesse Winker, Lane Thomas, Kyle Finnegan and Dylan Floro available for trades, and they all seem to make it into rumors. Is overall supply low enough that Mike Rizzo should get value worth pursuing for all four of them?
Anthony Franco
3:43
Floro and Winker should go but they're not bringing back much. They're certainly rental role players but not game changers. Thomas is alright but I don't know that the Nats are going to get something compelling enough to move him with the extra control year
3:44
Finnegan's the guy of that group who's most interesting. You're not getting a top 100 type for him but he'd get a couple good pieces from the middle of an org. Maybe a little higher than what they got for Candelario last summer
Rick
3:45
Varsho has some speed, power, and is solid defensively, but his batting average is a killer. Do you see any reason to be optimistic going forward or will he end up being a 4th outfielder?
Anthony Franco
3:46
As is, I think the glove's enough to make him an ok if frustrating regular. I don't think there's much beyond this though. That 27-homer season in Arizona was playing over his head
Pip
3:46
If the Os do nothing, can they still win the division? They’ve had a lot of glaring holes get larger, but I fear Mike Elias will focus more on long-term and hold his major assets.
Anthony Franco
3:46
They absolutely could win the East with the current roster but I wouldn't love taking this bullpen into October
3:48
There's an obvious case for adding a #3 starter so they're not running Albert Suárez or Dean Kremer in a playoff game. But even if they come up empty there, have to compensate by bringing it at least one more reliever who's more consistent than Domínguez
Donny Baseball
3:48
The flurry of trade activity over the last couple of days was nice to see. Do you expect this level of activity to continue through to the end of the deadline? Thanks for chat!
Anthony Franco
3:49
We won't get a player as good as Arozarena traded every day from here forward, but it's fair to expect at least one or two newsstand worthy trades per day through the weekend
3:50
And then a flood of stuff on Monday and Tuesday obviously. This year's low on high-end talent (assuming Skubal and Vlad Jr. stay) but there are enough teams in it that we should get a handful of swaps of reasonably productive big leaguers than the Philly/Baltimore one
Bill
3:50
With all the injuries, offensive decline and now seeming loss of baseball acumen the Braves haven’t had a good month since??? What are their playoff chances now?
Anthony Franco
3:51
I still can't see a realistic scenario where this team misses the playoffs but they obviously need to add outfield help and probably a back-end starter
Gadzooks
3:51
With Arozarena gone, should be expect Paredes and Diaz deals from Tampa in the coming days?
Anthony Franco
3:53
Yes on Yandy, Brandon Lowe and Eflin as well. I get the argument on Paredes with Caminero lurking but I'd still be moderately surprised if they pulled the trigger on that one
3:54
He's so good. They're probably offloading their most expensive players and a trade of Lowe and/or Díaz would leave a couple holes for Isaac on the right side of the infield, so it's not like Paredes is really standing in Caminero's way of taking third base
Colossal
3:54
I thought for sure someone would take a chance on Jose Abreu… Is he not playing baseball anymore?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Francys Romero reported yesterday that Abreu is likely to sit out the rest of this season but could make a comeback in '25
