Now that Phillies got May, where does Rooker go?
Anthony Franco
3:58
Wouldn't say he's a lock to go but I like Cleveland or Boston as a fit there. Sox could use him at first base in the short term (I don't doubt that Rooker could play there and would be a lot better than Dom Smith), keep him as a hedge if TON walks next offseason or move on from Yoshida in the winter

He's not a very Guardians-style player, which gives me pause. But they're working with the Brennan/Noel platoon in right field and Manzardo didn't seize the DH job. Fry gives them cover at DH but they could move guys around to make it work

Would the Pirates be interested in Ian Happ?  He's a Pittsburgh guy!  What would it take to get him?
Anthony Franco
4:03
He's a really good roster fit but the Cubs probably aren't trading him at all (much less in division) and it'd require the Pirates to take on $36MM between 2025-26. Tough to devote that much to a left fielder when you're operating under Bob Nutting level payroll restrictions

Who won the Phillies-Orioles trade?  Who regrets it when they meet in the World Series?
Anthony Franco

Sensible enough for both. Probably prefer the O's end in a vacuum but Hays is exactly what the Phils have been looking for and didn't cost what it'd have taken to get Thomas (and certainly not for Rooker)

Seems like the pressure is on the Yankees to do make moves this year while Soto is around.  Do they mortgage the future and sell from the top of the farm system?
Anthony Franco

I don't think so. It'd be more tempting if there were a clearer infield fit. Outside of maybe Paredes (which is such a tough thing to manage in-division), the infield market is rough. They're not giving up a Spencer Jones or Jasson Domínguez type for Luis Rengifo or any of the relievers on the market
4:07
They'll add but I don't expect them to get someone of the caliber necessary to move their absolute top-end guys

Would a package including Herrera and Carlson be enough to pry loose Eflin
I saw a post online about a Herrera for Flaherty swap, but that seems light to me. Herrera has a few years of control though, so maybe not?
Anthony Franco

Herrera seems like too much to give up for Eflin. I agree that he feels a little light for Flaherty but it's not crazy. If the Tigers think he's a plug-and-plus top 15 catcher in MLB, that's a tempting offer for a rental. I'm probably a little below that on him

Its the trade deadline like working in retail during Christmas? its so busy you forget to breath?

Really enjoying how busy its been already! Have to assume the Mets will trade Houser right, certainly another team see's his value for their bullpen?
Anthony Franco
4:11
Yeah they'll probably pay the money down and offload him somewhere. I'm out on him as a starter but he's an alright option in multi-inning relief

Deadline season's an exciting time for us. It's tiring, especially Tuesday evening, but the anticipation of knowing that something crazy could break at any time (basically unmatched for us outside of the Winter Meetings) is one of the perks of the job. April's a lot more relaxed and less stressful but it can get pretty dull
Have to wrap things up here

Thank you all for continuing to support the site and for the questions every week! Looking forward to breaking it all down next Friday
Have a great weekend everyone! Hopefully we get some fun chaos in the next few days
