Guardians feel more likely than the Astros to me, mostly because Plesac and Civale aren't quite as good as the Astros guys so the cost would be a little lower

Is the MLBTR staff going to be all-hands-on-deck all day next Mon/Tue? Or will you just cover your shifts, business as usual?
Anthony Franco
3:47
Definitely adding help. Trying to imagine poor Darragh just flying solo with his standard 1:00-7:00 EST shift and getting blasted with 50 trades
Each of Steve, Tim, Darragh and myself will be on for most of Tuesday, with a little overlap on Monday as well. Believe Mark's going to hop on in the few hours before the deadline as well

What will St Louis do this trade deadline? With Nado having an opt out at the end of the year and Mo's contract being up at the end of 23, is this the year they go big at the deadline?! What would big look like with that stacked farm system?
Anthony Franco
3:49
Does seem like they're open to it, and it's a pretty good time to get more aggressive than usual (not really because of Mozeliak's contract status but it's a veteran roster that's in a tight battle for a playoff spot). I do think they'll at least add a starter of some note, Montas maybe

FYI, spotted a typo in your top 50 post. Under the grouping of Solano/Peralta/Gamel/Pham, you refer to those 5 players (should be 4) and the 4 others being corner OF (should be 3)..  Looks like this was drafted when you had another OF in that grouping.

Haha thanks, I'll fix it after the chat
Damn Tyler Naquin

Hypothetically, what is the trade value for Luis Arraez?
Anthony Franco
3:51
A whole hell of a lot. They wouldn't do it, but there'd be huge appeal for three and a half years of maybe the game's best contact hitter

I hear three reasons why Soto won’t be moved at the trade deadline: 1/ worth nearly as much this coming winter, 2/ 2022 draft players become tradeable over the winter, and 3/ a deal is too complicated to pull off in the small window before August 2. With one less post-season and competition from FA’s who don’t cost prospects, Soto’s value has to be much less in the winter. Nats are looking for MLB-ready players, so how could the 2022 draft be a factor? The third is the one that confuses me—what makes a deadline trade so hard? The players traded have no say in where they wind up; salaries stay the same; and the paperwork should be easy. What am I missing?
Anthony Franco
3:53
I don't buy the idea that Washington would only want MLB-ready help. They'd like some big league ready talent but if SD were willing to include Dylan Lesko in a package this winter, I'm sure they'd love that
3:54
The third explanation is more about your staff, not the players involved. If you use these two weeks to have exploratory talks and identify that, say, the Padres and Mariners are the teams most interested, you have an extra couple months for your scouts and analysts to really zero in on those systems
Is it enough to outweigh the loss in value you'd get in holding him for a couple months that'd be hugely valuable to a contender? I don't know, but that's the logic behind it

After Contreras is traded, who is the next best available catcher?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Murphy for teams willing to pay a haul, probably Christian Vázquez or Pedro Severino after that

3:56
Chances Yankees land Castillo?
Anthony Franco
3:56
I'd probably pick the Dodgers if I had to guess, but the Yankees would be in the top five, sure

If the Giants sell, could they move some of their pitchers that are controllable beyond this season (Junis, Brebbia, Garcia, etc.)
Anthony Franco
3:57
Junis feels too valuable for a rotation that's without DeSclafani and would be losing Rodón in this scenario
Brebbia I could see. Jarlin's peripherals aren't good and I doubt there'd be a ton of interest

Who hangs up? Jordan Groshans, Yosver Zuluetta, Addison Barger, and Spencer Horwitz for Pablo Lopez.

Miami could beat it

Now that we know the QO system will remain in place, how many players do you think will receive a QO this offseason, and are there any you can see actually accepting one if offered?
Anthony Franco
4:00
Good question I'll be able to better answer in a couple weeks once we turn our attention more fully from deadline stuff to the offseason. Just eyeballing it, there's probably 15+ candidates and J.D. Martinez jumps out as a guy who might get one and accept
Ranger53
4:01
The Rangers have to be in on Skubal and/or Lopez, right?  I wonder if the trade proposal I sent you during the "We're not trading Juan Soto" days would be enough now to get him?  Nick Solak, Bubba Thompson, Davis Wendzel, Dustin Harris,  and Tekoah Roby.  Maybe Cole Ragans and maybe Sam Huff?  Anyone not named Leiter, ha!
Anthony Franco
4:01
They should be in on the controllable starters, yeah. That package is way too light for either of the pitchers or Soto though

4:02
Benintendi joined the Yanks, who do the Brewers look to now for a CF? Too soon to call Sal up?
Anthony Franco
4:03
Yeah Frelick's probably too bold, although his numbers are good enough in Double-A that it wouldn't be completely wild. Laureano seems like the focus there, could fall back on Michael Taylor or Rafael Ortega
JL
4:03
What are your thoughts on Mike Elias's job performance up to this point?  Will he be more aggressive during this deadline?
Anthony Franco
4:04
Tough to tell really, they haven't done anything in free agency yet. They've drafted well, and that's Elias' speciality, so in that sense I've been impressed
4:05
(This is the Orioles by the way)
Never really questioned whether he could draft though. Fascinated to see how he'll approach things as they get more competitive. Think this deadline will probably be pretty quiet
grover
4:06
If you had to pick one that's going to get dealt by the deadline... Murphy or Laureano?
Anthony Franco
4:06
Murphy with Langeliers on the horizon
Chappy
4:06
What fan base will be let down the most at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
4:08
I lean towards the White Sox there. Given the lack of farm talent and the franchise-record payroll, I think it'll be pretty quiet
4:09
Alright I have to head out to cover the feed. Couldn't get to everything today with it being a busy time, but feel free to throw stuff at me on Twitter and I'll get back to you there within the next day or two
