Go get one of the Colorado guys

Are we looking to trade anyone not nailed down or names like McGonigle, Greene, & Dingler?  Should we prep for a rebuild, or just a retool?
Anthony Franco

Retool, way too much core talent for a full rebuild. Prioritize upper level SP and OF at the deadline and add a couple mid-level free agent starters in the offseason

Are the Royals simply posturing in their mentions of hanging onto Wacha and Lugo? With the lockout all but certain, these 35/36yo guys are too old for KC not to get something for. Outside of BWJ, Jac and Jensen, it seems everyone should be available to fill the upper minors.

I think it's a fine stance for them to take, mostly because Lugo and Wacha don't have much trade value at those salaries. The Lugo contract is probably a little above market. Wacha's should have modest surplus value but dumping the money and getting another team's #16 prospect for him doesn't do a whole lot
4:04
They don't have in-house pitching replacement but they're not going to tear it down when they have Witt, Garcia, Jensen, Caglianone, etc. so they'd just end up targeting the same type of third-tier FA starters with the money they saved by trading the guys they already had

Braves get a starting pitcher and a little outfield offensive pop - who do they get?
Anthony Franco
4:05
Ray and Adell?

I'll take two or three more and then have to help out with the news backlog

Where does May end up AF ? Who else gets moved
Anthony Franco
4:08
I'll stick with Minnesota on May. They should move Noot to open LF for Baez, flip Crooks for a controllable back-end starter, cash in Stanek for a wild card type in the low minors
4:09
Romero too, I guess, but they're not getting much for him

Someone suggest a Goodman-for-Hancock framework, which is a fair place to start, but my issue is the years of control. Emerson’s contract gives only one more year of control over Goodman, putting the Rockies in essentially the same position. Should the Rockies ask for Sloan or Anderson instead to extend that window of control to better match up where they are as an organization?
Anthony Franco
4:11
Yeah I can't see Seattle doing that for either of the prospects but Hancock for Goodman would feel a little underwhelming for Colorado
I'd understand the rationale but wouldn't like it for them

Rosenthal wrote that Taylor Ward seems to be the RH bat holding up the market.  Knowing the way things go the biggest dominoes fall first.  I'm thinking once Skubal and Ward are dealt (IF Ward is dealt) things will happen quickly.  Other deals will be made when teams realize they are out of the running.  Do you still think most deals are done Sunday and Monday?
Anthony Franco
4:14
Not sure I fully buy that on Ward, though I haven't read Rosenthal's column yet so just going off this question. Don't doubt that he's a top target for a lot of teams but he's also a semi-costly rental who's a clear everyday player. That's a different role from a team looking at a cheap RH complementary bat like Ramos or Thomas
4:15
Also don't think the Orioles will or should be looking to move him or Rogers given their proximity to the Wild Card race. They're not untouchable or anything but I'd have an uncomfortably high ask on both and be prepared to make the QO at year's end
4:16
That's all kind of a tangent that didn't directly answer the question haha. Most of it will happen Sunday and Monday, yeah. Teams take it right to the deadline every year
4:17
Alright, I have to run and help Darragh with whatever rumors we haven't gotten on the site yet
4:18
Apologies if I didn't get to your question, could only answer a small percentage with one of the busier chats of the year. Feel free to throw stuff at me on X @affranco10. I'll try to get back you before Monday on there

Thanks all for your continued support of the site and all the questions each week! Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the chaos. Will be fun to see where it all lands in a few days
