Could try to line up a pitcher for position player swap with Miami. Tigers have some young pitching that was drafted by the previous front office regime. Maybe there's someone in that group Scott Harris is willing to deal

I know position players are much safer picks.  I keep reading people’s opinions that the pitcher may be the best pitching prospect in the last 20 years.  Who would GM Franco choose?

Crews but with the caveat that I watched less college baseball this year than I have in any season since 2018, so I don't have particularly strong draft takes

are the Cubs in a Selling mode?
Anthony Franco

More wait and see right now but I expect them to end up as sellers by the deadline. Not a full teardown or anything, but they should try to move Stroman, Bellinger and other impending free agents like Fulmer and maybe Hendricks

Thanks for the chats, Cardinal fan here, obviously would like to trade a low minors player for the other team's ace, but assuming that won't happen. Would Donovan and Herrera (triple A catcher) be enough to get one of Seattle's young arms? Or would it take Gorman and Herrera? (trying not to be too much of a homer).

anyway the Cards/M’s could match up on a deal like when Mariners swapped Pineda for Montero (hopefully this time would work out lol).

Got one question about this from either side this week. People love speculating about these two teams matching up
5:04
I don't think the Mariners would give up one of Gilbert or Kirby even for a Gorman/Herrera package. Herrera's a tough fit in Seattle with Cal Raleigh around. Gorman/Donovan are good players and would certainly help, but I'd rather have the established upper mid-rotation starter than either of those guys
5:05
One of them for Bryan Woo or Bryce Miller feels more aligned on value, but this kind of trade is a lot easier to line up in theory than it is to pull off. Teams hate moving guys that talented with so much club control

Anthony, I am on the side of trading Ohtani. I think he is the G.O.A.T., but I think the Angels are in great need of a rebuild. Year after year they have put a patchwork team on the field. Their player development and drafting has been ineffective.
What would be a good return for Ohtani as a rental? What could Ward return?
Thanks for taking my questions?

The Scherzer/Trea Turner trade is the best comparison I can think of for an Ohtani deal. Not perfect -- Trea had an extra year of arbitration control, so I think the Nats did better there than the Angels would -- but it's the best recent example of a star pitcher/position player moving in the same package
5:07
Washington got two borderline top 50 talents in Keibert Ruiz/Josiah Gray. On Ohtani, I think it'd be more like one top 50 and a fringe top 100
5:08
He'd establish the upper bound for how the market values an impending free agent
Ward has three and a half arbitration seasons. Not having a great year, has played better in the past. Could probably pull a top 100 guy as the headliner there but I'd be surprised if the Angels did it
5:09
(I'd be surprised if they traded Ohtani too)

Hi Anthony. Much enjoyed the article on top 50 trade targets. Was curious what you think Jordan Montgomery in terms of prospects and what positions the Cards would prioritize. Thanks
Anthony Franco
5:10
Probably a fringe top 100 guy and a couple mid-tier prospects for Montgomery. Starting pitching would be ideal, I guess, but I imagine they'd just take whatever they thought was the best value regardless of position

I love the trade deadline and all the hopes and dreams that come with it. That being said, I feel like my Bravos should stay put if Fried and Dylan Lee are back pitching this week. I don't think we have the capital for someone like Stroman or an upgrade in LF and think the relievers we have are as capable as what is on the market. What say you?
Anthony Franco
5:12
Yeah I agree. I'd probably feel a little better about the bench if they got a better backup infielder than Culberson, but overall, I don't think they should (or will) do a whole lot

Give me a bat the M's can target before the trade deadline and who would they have to give up. And do you think the M's have enough of a chance to make the playoffs to make a block buster trade worthwhile?
Anthony Franco
5:14
A little far out to go after a top-tier rental right now, but there's still some time to change that. Even if they're fringe contenders this year, they'd make sense for exploring controllable bats who could help next season and beyond
5:15
Lane Thomas is the guy I think most teams looking for controllable offense should try to push for. With Teoscar heading to free agency and Pollock not playing well, I'd love him as a fit in Seattle

any update on a possible Karinchak return?
Anthony Franco
5:18
He's only pitched seven times in Triple-A and walked a batter in five of them. Clearly huge stuff and he'll probably be on and off the roster throughout the season but the control's still an issue
Alright that's all I have time for today
Thanks for all the questions, and as always, thanks so much for supporting the site! These are a blast
