I think they're just kind of stuck with Herrera/Knizner for the rest of the season
Keith
3:54
Do you believe the A's will sign a decent FA (Benintendi, Mancini, etc.) this offseason?
Anthony Franco
3:54
Nah, not after the way they slashed payroll last winter
3:55
Maybe reallocate a few million bucks at the end of the winter for a Michael Lorenzen type, but I can't see them dropping a three or four year deal on anybody

Is the trade deadline just a big came of chicken! As a buyer I would want to strike early to get the most games from my new acquisition. As a seller I get wanting more players but I would rather strike first when the most talent is available before they get traded away.
Anthony Franco
3:57
I think there's a strong case for teams to act quicker but they're kind of pinned by a tendency towards brinkmanship, yeah. It was a similar story with the CBA negotiations. Everyone wants to hold out for the best deal until the last possible second, when their hand is finally forced
There are teams like Seattle and SF that are stuck in a middle ground and truly don't know which they're going to go yet. That's a different story

What kind of return should the Royals get for Benintendi?
Anthony Franco
3:59
I doubt it'll be as much as the fanbase is expecting. He's hitting a ton of singles, riding a huge BABIP, moderately expensive
4:00
There'll be teams interested but it feels more like a couple low-level upside prospects to me
Joey Gallo
4:00
What uni am I wearing after the trade deadline?
Anthony Franco
4:00
Man, this is a really tough one. Dodgers?
Arthur Dent
4:01
Other than staying healthy, is there anything Mariners should do to increase their chances of getting into the post season.  At this juncture I’d like to see maybe some bullpen help but aside from that I think I’d probably like to see them roll with roster more or less as is.
Anthony Franco
4:04
A second base upgrade would be ideal but there isn't a whole lot out there. Could probably use a high-leverage reliever, I agree, maybe a better #2 catcher. Otherwise, yeah, it's a pretty good roster that would benefit a lot from getting Haniger back
Cashman
4:04
What are the odds I trade for an outfielder?
Anthony Franco
4:04
(Yankees)
4:05
Seems likely. The only real underperformances they've gotten are from Gallo and Hicks. Feels like that'll be the priority
Bones
4:05
What would the trade return be for Brandon Woodruff?
Anthony Franco
4:05
Massive but Milwaukee isn't doing this
Dick Radatz
4:05
Who will be more productive for the rest of the year: Aroldis Chapman or Garrett Whitlock (who will return soon)?
Anthony Franco
4:06
I like Whitlock quite a bit more. He's maybe better on a rate basis (a lot more faith in his strike-throwing) and goes multiple innings with regularity

Hey Anthony … the body of the message says 2:00 CDT; the Subject says 2:30 CDT … which is it??  Please clarify.  Thanks.
Anthony Franco
4:07
Damn, just saw this. Sorry about that
Pumpsie Green
4:07
Who has the brighter future: Dean Kremer, Brady Singer, or Kutter Crawford?
Anthony Franco
4:07
Singer easily at the top of that group for me. I'd probably go Crawford next

If Bryce Harper hadn't been hit by that pitch, Darick Hall (26 years old, not on Phillies top 30 prospect list) might never have made it to the bigs. His first eight games, he's Mike Trout. Yes, small sample size. He keeps hitting anything close to this and he's next year's 1st baseman. Except there's Rhys Hoskins, who is making almost 8 million and has one more year of team control. Good problem to have, but considering the Phils have already cornered the market on bat-first players, they don't really have room for both - do they?
Anthony Franco
4:08
Need a lot more than eight games to be convinced Hall's a regular
4:09
If he has a great second half, then sure, you can explore the market for Hoskins next winter. But this isn't a situation where you force Hoskins out at the deadline and turn things over to Hall right now

Reading Ken Rosenthal this morning, he opined Carlos Rodon could be a possible trade candidate. What are the odds that happens and what would a deal look like if they did move him?
Anthony Franco
4:11
Yeah we were talking about it this morning because our first Trade Candidates post is dropping imminently
4:12
We're of the opinion it's too early to go there. They're only two games back, the front office is going to give these guys a chance if they're in it based on what they did last season. So it still feels unlikely that he goes
4:13
But that changes if they go 7-13 over the next few weeks. And at that point, yeah, he'd bring back a bunch as the top rental arm available
Matty A
4:13
After his less than stellar first start, what do you think of Bryan Bello for the rest of the season?
Anthony Franco
4:14
Not super optimistic. The control's going to be pretty spotty early. I'm guessing he ends up back in Worcester as the other guys get healthy
For Nandez
4:14
What do or can the jays do with Kikuchi? Man. 3 years of this? Throw him in the bullpen and watch him walk guys from there?
Anthony Franco
4:15
Yeah I'd just 'pen him and use him as a left-on-left specialist, basically
It baffled me that they went three years in the first place. I wanted to put him at like 1/6 on the free agent list last year haha
4:17
Thankfully Tim talked me up to two years but we were way too light on him primarily because I thought he was just bad. I was wrong about how the market would value him but it seems like he was way overvalued because he throws hard, basically
Eddie
4:17
I have Adell and Kelenic and room to stash them.  Keep holding on, or let go?  Also do you see a good second half for Brandon Lowe?
Anthony Franco
4:17
Redraft? I think you can let go of Kelenic
