i have been unable to comment on the MLBTR website for over a month. Tried everything. This is the only site that I have problems with. I get a response: Unexpected response from the server? Contacted Tim a week ago but have not heard back yet. Have I somehow been blackballed or totally muted?
Anthony Franco
3:24
I'm not sure what's going on there. Can you drop the email address associated with your account in the chat or DM it to me on Twitter?
3:25
I won't post it publicly, but I'll forward it along to Tim to take a look

I know we have a ways to go, but any chance this offseason we’ll get more player chats, trade retrospectives, etc? Those were both really enjoyable to read and/or be a part of during the lockout.
Anthony Franco
3:26
Probably will see a fair number of both of those things, yeah. It's impossible to commit to a certain number of player chats, since those are entirely subject to the whims of the players
3:27
We asked a ton of players last winter. A bunch said yes, more didn't want to do it. That's their prerogative obviously, but we like the response to the player chats and would love to keep doing them so long as guys are willing

Are Cole Irvin and Sean Murphy dealt this offseason?
Anthony Franco
3:27
I think Murphy will be with Langeliers up now. Don't have to, but it feels like a waste to have one of them playing DH/first base since they're both plus defensive catchers
3:28
Irvin, I doubt it. He doesn't miss a ton of bats and he's a little older. He's a better fit for the A's where the ballpark is so big and swallows up a lot of the batted balls than he is for a lot of other teams. Good pitcher, but I don't think the league-wide demand will be high enough the A's get an offer they feel compelled to take rather than keeping him around as a rotation anchor

Thanks for the illuminating discourse Anthony. Are there any realistic Ozuna solutions for the Braves? Can they send him to AAA?
Anthony Franco
3:29
Nope, players with five-plus years of MLB service time can't be sent to the minors without their consent. I'd just cut him if I were them, it didn't work
3:30
I mean, the trade worked I guess. He was awesome in 2020. The extension did not
Astros fan
3:30
Assuming he stays healthy, what does Verlander’s next contract look like and who will he be playing for?
Anthony Franco
3:31
I like him at 2/90 or around 3/110, kind of depending on his priorities. I think he could break Scherzer's AAV record over two if he wanted, but the overall guarantee would be better over three
Typical big-market teams will be involved. Astros will try to bring him back, Yankees, Dodgers, Giants, Rangers all fit
3:32
Maybe the Mets jump in if a couple of their in-house starters (deGrom, Bassitt, Walker) leave in free agency
Cards M.O.
3:32
Do you think Nolan Arenado opts out? He has got to be looking at Albert thinking that this is all a pretty cool way to end your career in front of the best fans in baseball.
Anthony Franco
3:33
No idea what he's thinking personally, but he could do a lot better than 5/144 if he wanted to coming off an MVP-caliber season
3:34
It does seem like a situation where he's super happy there, the team is great, and maybe they just renegotiate the deal before he has to make the call. Throw on an extra $30MM for 2028 and keep the ball rolling
Mets Rotation
3:34
What do you think the Mets will do about T. Walker and C. Carrasco this offseason, assuming both finish the season healthy and strong?  Walker would seem to be the more expensive of the two (what do you estimate he could get in free agency?).
Anthony Franco
3:35
Yeah Walker's going to get more years, although they'll probably both be in the $12-14MM range annually. Walker's a pretty close comp to the DeSclafani, Matz, Alex Wood group from last winter
3:36
Matz topped that tier at 4/44, Disco at 3/36 feels maybe more likely
3:37
Like those guys, he'll be an interesting qualifying offer case. None of them actually received the QO, but none of those teams spent like the Mets do. If they offer the QO, which feels about 50/50 to me, I think he'd take it and just come back for one year and $20MM or so
Carrasco has a $14MM club option that's probably worth exercising given the amount of uncertainty with the rest of the rotation

How do you see the Braves using Contreras next year?  This year he will be lucky to get 375 ABs which seems low for someone with his talents.
Anthony Franco
3:38
Similar sort of thing with more time in left field mixed in. Guessing outfield work will be a pretty big offseason developmental goal for him

I see that the new schedule came out for next year. I read the system was changed and the National league teams would play all the American League teams once
Anthony Franco
3:39
Yeah every team plays everybody at least once in a season now, far fewer intra-divisional games. That was a change in the new CBA
PAul
3:39
If the Dodgers reach the World Series would you like to see Yankees or a rematch with Houston
Anthony Franco
3:40
They'd both have a lot of intrigue. I think it'd be really cool if we got a perennial powerhouse like L.A. against a Toronto or Seattle team that hasn't been there in forever too
The latter outcome would probably be my favorite, but I don't have strong rooting interests for anything really
Centrals
3:40
What team is the most hurt by the new schedule format?
Anthony Franco
3:40
St. Louis/Milwaukee probably, at least for now
3:41
Fewer games against the Cubs, Reds and Pirates
In the long run, I doubt it really matters. Maybe the travel becomes more onerous for Seattle or something?
Cody bellinger
3:41
What is my contract status for next year. Will I just walk or will I be offered anything. I am still outstanding defensively
Anthony Franco
3:42
I think he'll be non-tendered. They'd be looking at like a $20MM arb salary for a player with a .254 on-base percentage over the last two seasons
3:43
I know the defense and baserunning is great. He's a big leaguer, probably a soft regular in center field. But Michael A. Taylor signed for two years and $9MM last year
3:44
I think Bellinger's a better player than that, but they haven't been all that different over the past two years
