Do you think a new owner will be able to sell othani on staying. Also even though I am not an Artie moreno fan I think people were getting too personal and he got tired of the complaining
Anthony Franco
3:45
I doubt it but feel like there's a better chance of it under new ownership than there would've been under Moreno
Dodgers fan

Now that they are getting back some of their pitchers will they go more by committe to close
Anthony Franco
3:45
Seems like they want it to be Kimbrel ideally -- Roberts has basically said as much -- but they won't just hand it to him by default. Probably committee for now and evaluate how Kimbrel's performing heading into the playoffs

Hi Anthony thanks for the chat. Dodgers just extended Muncy, which was an excellent move. What are your gut feelings on the two Turners, Gallo and Bellinger?
Anthony Franco
3:47
Gallo strikes me as the likeliest to be around next year. Already talked about Bellinger. Trea Turner's probably looking at eight years and I don't know if the Dodgers want to go to those lengths, since they've preferred the higher-AAV, shorter term generally
3:48
Justin Turner I guess you could bring back for cheaper, but I'm not sure he's a definitive upgrade over Edwin Ríos or Miguel Vargas at this point

How has the trade deadline results gone so bad for NYY? Montgomery is playing out of his mind.
Anthony Franco
3:49
Not super concerned about it. Montas just kind of hit a slump, I think. Bader hasn't played yet, which they knew going in. Effross getting hurt is unfortunate but if he's back before the playoffs (which it seems like he will be), it's not a huge deal
Elehuris Montero
3:49
Where does he fit in the Rockies' plans?  He was probably the top prospect in the Arenado trade.  Cron is under contract for another year at first base.  McMahon is signed through 2027.  Bryant will be in left or right field when healthy.
Anthony Franco
3:50
Rotate through the corners and designated hitter. If he's hitting well enough, they'll be able to find room
3:51
They flirted with moving McMahon to shortstop last offseason. Maybe you reconsider that if Montero's playing out of his mind at third base, but he has to show it first. He's got a .275 OBP over his first 30 MLB games and wasn't a top prospect leaguewide, so I'm not convinced he's a regular yet

Where do you see the Cubs shifting their focus this offseason?  Do you believe they are trying to compete in 2023?
Anthony Franco
3:52
I do not. Answered this in-depth during yesterday's chat for the main site, but I think there are way too many holes on that roster to fill midseason. Feels more like '24, when the Heyward/Hendricks money is off the books, that they view as the contention window

Would Texas have a shot at a 2-3 year deal for Verlander and what would it cost, would it be better to trade with Marlin’s?
Anthony Franco
3:53
I think they're a strong suitor for Verlander yeah, mentioned the price range I'm expecting for him earlier in the chat

How do you think that Cleveland will cope with the 40 man roster dillema? Do you see any other good team have an issue with protecting their players? Do you see some interesting names a team like Oakland could acquire while taking advantage of that situation?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Yeah they're in a position to consolidate that depth for a controllable star. Sean Murphy's the guy I come back to as the primary example because he feels very much like their kind of player, but he's obviously not the only candidate. Maybe it's Pablo López, try to sway the Pirates on Bryan Reynolds, etc.

Do you see Boston as the best fit for Wilson Contreras in the offseason?
Anthony Franco
3:56
Sure they're a strong one. Giants maybe, Padres, Marlins, Mets

Do you think that Oakland could take a chance on some buy low hitters like W.Myers or R.Odor in the offseason?
Anthony Franco
3:56
I don't know that Odor's even a buy-low candidate so much as he just shouldn't be in the major leagues anymore, but as a general question, I agree those are the kinds of guys they'll explore
3:57
Myers makes sense there, sure
Brewers
3:57
I do not want to pretend to know more than the coaching staff of the Brewers (or any other team). That said, how can the brewers’ coaches miss obvious faults in their hitters’ swings? For example: Luis Urias has his foot in the air while the pitch is coming. Yelich hits way too many ground balls. It would seem that simple adjustment might help them. Again, I know that my knowledge is far from anything that MLB coaches have.
Anthony Franco
3:57
Can't speak to those situations directly, but I think in a lot of cases, it can be difficult to implement mechanical tweaks even as players/coaches identify the problem
3:58
Breaking bad habits is hard

Will the Brewers make the playoffs?
Anthony Franco
3:58
Lean no at this point

3:58
Is there any definitive word on the rule changes (shift, pitch clock, etc.) for next year?
Anthony Franco
3:59
Not definitive, won't be finalized until the competition committee meets next spring. I do expect both the shift bans and pitch clocks (as well as the larger bases) will be implemented for next season eventually
Tyler Anderson
3:59
Should LA resign me?
Anthony Franco
3:59
Obviously comes down to price but I don't see why they wouldn't at least make an effort at it. He's been pretty damn good

With what the Braves have coming off the books, how likely is it that we make a play for DeGrom or Rodon
Anthony Franco
4:01
I think it's more likely they'll earmark some of it for a Dansby extension, but if he walks, a run at one of the starters becomes more realistic to me

4:02
Anthony, Pretend that you are the new owner of the Angels and you are looking to hire a person to run the Baseball Operations, who receives your first phone call?
Anthony Franco
4:03
We're assuming I fired Minasian? Maybe Matt Arnold then?
Alright I have to run to help Steve with write-ups on all the stuff that broke in the last three hours or so
4:04
Apologies for the stuff I couldn't get to. Obviously feel free to throw anything me at Twitter, I'll circle back there tonight or tomorrow you hit me with any questions
Otherwise, we'll do this again next week
Thanks for your support of the site as always! Have a great weekend!
