Do you think the braves will Target a shortstop in the off season
Anthony Franco
3:35
Should bring Dubón back as well but yeah, have to find a true everyday SS. They make sense for J.P. Crawford
Greg
3:35
With new (competent) ownership coming to the Angels, and a weak AL West, do you see a chance of them contending short term? Would a few impact free agents added to a core of Neto/Trout and Urena/Detmers make that a possibility?
Anthony Franco
3:37
Can't see the path within the next two years. The roster from players 7-26 is so bad
3:38
Warranted optimism long term with the ownership change and front office shakeup but it's going to take a couple years to build the player development pipeline they'll need to round out the bottom half of the lineup, back two rotation spots, and majority of the bullpen
Jesus Sanchez
3:38
Why did the Jays DFA me?  I've had some glove misadventures to be sure, but I'm still one of their better hitters against righties.  Martin is unproven and I love Straw, but the dude swings a noodle.
Anthony Franco
3:41
Just didn't provide enough value aside from being a good, not great, hitter vs. RHP. Was a little surprised they preferred Martin to him but if they're leaning heavily into defense and playing Straw/Lukes anyway, Martin's got more utility for the last bench spot

Would teams be interested in trading for Trout if he agreed to waive his NTC and the Angels were willing to eat about half of the $148.5M owed on his deal?
Anthony Franco
3:43
Hmm, still think $75MM is a little heavy for a guy who should be a DH and has the injury concern. Moot point anyway since Trout has said repeatedly he doesn't want to waive

It wont happen because of how Stearns operates, but could you see a trade revolving around the following framework: Devers + Cash goes to the Mets while the Giants take on the Semien / Jorge Polanco contracts + prospects?
Anthony Franco
3:46
Agree this doesn't feel very Stearns but makes some mutual sense. Would have to be legitimate prospects though. Devers' contract isn't that bad and if SF is taking on more short-term money -- probably should be open to it in a retool year to better manage the long-term books -- they're going to need real talent to give up one of the few players they have who can hit

Since the MiLB is on a separate CBA, will we still see MiLB transactions during the MLB lockout? Visa vie , could we ever be in a situation where the MLB is playing without minor leaguers behind them?
Anthony Franco
3:48
There will be minor league transactions. Guess it's possible we see an MiLB lockout at some point, yeah. Not a concern this offseason though. Their CBA runs through '27

Which team currently on the outside looking would be scariest in October?  Diamondbacks are inconsistent, but I like that bullpen.  Am I mad for taking the Pirates though? 4.5 back, but Skenes, Jones, Ashcraft, Chandler could be super tough in a short series.
Anthony Franco
3:49
I agree it's Pittsburgh now that their lineup's pretty close to full strength but they'd need a miracle run to get in
3:50
They're a borderline top 10 overall roster that got a bunch of brutally timed injuries
Chris
3:51
Mis or Sanchez for Cy Young?  Mis has much better rate stats, but Sanchez has thrown 26 more innings (which comes out to be 4-5 extra starts worth of innings).
Anthony Franco
3:52
Miz for me. Then probably Sánchez, Sale, Luzardo and Miller
3:53
Hell of a year for all those guys
Will

Padres 2027 rotation:
Anthony Franco
3:53
Haha absolutely no idea
3:55
I think they need to exercise the Pivetta option just to have some stability. Would make sense to sign one of the high-AAV older starters (e.g. Gausman, Gray, potential Ray reunion)
3:56
Another year where bringing Nick Martinez would work too
Tony
3:56
Does someone give Tyrone Taylor a multi-year deal this offseason?
Anthony Franco
3:57
Yeah I think he's done enough to get 2/12
BhamBrave
3:57
Do the Braves re-sign Mahle?
Anthony Franco
3:58
Would be fine to bring him back as a mid-rotation guy but they'll also need to aim higher for a legitimate #2

Is there a way to watch old mlb games on demand? I’d love nothing more than to go back and watch all of Greg Maddux’s or Roy Halladay’s starts. I miss watching the two of them pitch so much.
Anthony Franco

I don't think there's a reliable archive that far back. You can dig some up on YouTube but most of those are in a vault somewhere
MLB TV subscription allows you to watch every game dating back to the middle of the '24 season

Surely Skip will no longer be the Skip in 2027, right? Texas has big time underperformed
Anthony Franco
4:01
Would be shocked if he's let go one season into a four-year deal
4:02
Disagree with the premise too. They certainly haven't exceeded expectations but 72-75 with this roster feels about right
4:04
This is three straight years of them being mediocre with the same general problems: not enough offense, patchwork bullpen that can't miss bats, shaky rotation depth
4:05
These guys just aren't very good. Gore should be out there this offseason, Eovaldi/deGrom too if they're willing to waive the NTC during the winter
Mets Man
4:05
Has Senga saved his career with the mets with how he has performed this last month?
Anthony Franco
4:07
He's done enough as a reliever to avoid getting released. Would not want to start the '27 season with him pencilled into the closer role though

Any chance Billy Amick is the Mets 1B next year?
Anthony Franco
4:09
The approach questions are way too much of a concern for me. Feels like a Quad-A/bench bat

What is your estimated date when MLB will expand to 32 teams?  Also do you see realignment of NL and AL at the same time?
