Thanks for hosting the chat. Cardinal fan here--Bill Dewitt famously said the post season is a crapshoot (my words) so how do post season results affect the off season if you view it that way? The takeaway I would take is that TOR starters and power hitting are key factors for post season success but haven't seen the Cards pursue dominant pitching. Long winded but do  you think Cards will take a big look at DeGrom or Verlander? They haven't been inclined to do that in the past but shorter term money (higher AAV) may push them that way.  Thank you

Yeah I mostly agree with DeWitt's sentiment and wouldn't let the postseason take on much of a role in the following year's roster construction. There are a lot of explanations for "secrets to winning in the playoffs" that usually boil down to "whatever the team that won last year's World Series was good at." I don't think there's a tried and true formula, much as that's unsatisfying
3:01
Not saying the Cardinals wouldn't make sense as a fit for deGrom or Verlander, or that signing one of those guys wouldn't improve their odds of winning the World Series. But generally speaking, I think that'll be the case regardless of whether they get swept in the Wild Card series or win the World Series in 2022

Do you think Josh Bell, Brandon Belt, Gallo, or Pederson would be the best addition for the Rangers, assuming they decide Judge is too expensive and Arrenado stays in St.Louis
Anthony Franco
3:02
I'd prefer Joc and Gallo, in that order, of the players you mentioned. Corner outfield flexibility makes sense since you're otherwise locking up both 1B and DH between Lowe and whomever you sign

In your opinion what Rookies today will be 5-10 year All-Stars?
Anthony Franco
3:05
Not exactly a bold take but Adley, Julio, Witt, Strider all jump out
Duffy Scliff
3:05
Could Miguel Andujar reclaim that rookie season form with some consistent playing time and no injuries? And where could he end up?
Anthony Franco
3:07
Don't think he's ever getting back to 75 extra-base hits, but I buy him being a decent hitter if someone gives him regular playing time
3:08
The Nationals have top waiver priority and I see no compelling reason for them not to claim him. It's not like they have third base locked down next year

Has Brandon Marsh shown enough to be the Phillies regular CF next year?  Do they hedge their bets or go all out for next year?
RAGBRAI
3:08
What does Phillies off-season look like? CF, starters or BP their biggest need?
Anthony Franco
3:10
I'm not enamored with Marsh, since the K/BB profile is terrible, but the glove's good enough he's probably a soft regular in center, particularly with the terrible free agent market there beyond Judge and Nimmo
Middle infield (assuming they buy out Segura) and the back of the rotation feel like the priorities to me

Could the Dbacks be a fit for Sean Murphy?
Anthony Franco
3:11
I can kind of see it as a dark horse play, but it'd be really bold to push in like that when they're not clearly a contender yet. Probably requires parting with two of the top five guys in a strong farm system
3:12
I wouldn't have Arizona in my top five Murphy suitors or anything, but I can see the logic

Could Miguel Cario be the next White Sox manager if La Russa doesn’t come back next year? They’ve really responded well since he’s taken over.
Anthony Franco
3:13
Sure, but I don't think they'll make that decision exclusively based off the team's record the last three weeks. There's so much more that determines whether someone's a good manager than a 12-8 stretch of play

Three questions: 1) I live in Seattle and watched them play the A's in Oakland earlier this week with just 1,000 people in the stands for one game. What's the latest on the A's stadium search in either Oakland or Vegas? 2) And can Vegas actually support MLB? How does its permanent population compare with other MLB cities? 3) If the M's reach the playoffs—and given their recent performance and injuries, that's a question, will they be gone in the first round?
Anthony Franco
3:14
A's and Oakland are still haggling over public funding for the waterfront ballpark the team wants to get built there
3:16
As for whether Vegas can support a team, I don't see why not. Seems like the Raiders and Golden Knights have done just fine since moving there (or in the Knights' case, being formed). The hitting environment would be pretty inflated and I'm sure you'd need a roof given the heat, but it seems entirely viable to me
3:17
On the Mariners, they can definitely get past the first round. That's true of all the playoff teams anyways, but I wouldn't consider Seattle notably worse than any of Toronto, Tampa Bay or Cleveland -- one of whom they'll be playing
Braves or Mets?
3:17
Which team wins the division?  Why?
Anthony Franco
3:17
I'll take the Mets given the lead they already have plus the likelihood they secure the tiebreaker
NL Wild Card
3:18
Who makes it to the postseason if there is a three way tie for the second and third wild card spots?
Anthony Franco
3:19
  1. Philly
  2. San Diego
  3. Milwaukee
Alright that's everything for today
Thanks for all the questions, and obviously for your support of the site in general!

As always, I'm available on Twitter if you want to throw anything at me there. We'll do this again next week, have a good one!
