Who gets traded: Santiago Espinal or Cavan Biggio?
Anthony Franco
4:08
Would be surprised if Biggio's on the 2023 roster

You mentioned recently that you believe Dansby is back to ATL. The part of me that's still twitching from the Braves' past tightwad tendencies makes me fear that they see Grissom and an opportunity for savings. What do you see that could make me more optimistic?
Anthony Franco
4:10
Dansby really seems to want to be there so I'm kind of banking in a hometown discount
4:11
There's also some trepidation from prospect evaluators about Grissom's ability to stick at shortstop. They can fit both on the same roster if Grissom can play some outfield

How do you evaluate organizations? Are there any metrics such as WAR for teams?
By WAR, I mean comprehensive across the org and across time.
Anthony Franco
4:12
You could query for WAR for teams over a certain period on FanGraphs
Here's the position player groups since 2018, for instance
4:13
But honestly, over that long a stretch, I think the team's record tells you most of what you want to get at
How you doin?
4:13
What does the yankee infield look like next year, assuming they drop a fortune on Judge in the outfield?
Anthony Franco
4:15
Expect they keep Rizzo, Gleyber/LeMahieu splitting time at second and third. IKF in a utility capacity with Peraza as the primary shortstop. Donaldson gets traded and they bring in another bat-first type from outside the organization

Anthony, hypothetically, if Ohtani and Judge were having these same seasons but played on the same team, would Judge still be the MVP choice? I think that Ohtani is the best player and Judge is having the best season of his career in his walk year.
OHTANI would be more valuable.
Anthony Franco
4:16
I think so. Team context doesn't make a huge difference to me in MVP voting
4:17
I think there's a perfectly defensible argument for Ohtani as the MVP even on a terrible team. I lean Judge since he's having the greatest offensive season since peak Bonds, but you could argue that Ohtani basically is the MVP every year that he's healthy
It's cliche but I think this is one of those "any other year, the second-place guy would've won it" times

Who has the best shot of surviving first round: CLE, TOR, SEA, TB?
Anthony Franco
4:18
I like Tampa the most of the group

2 questions:  on a PTBN… is there a time limit?  2nd could 2 buckets of players based upon how the traded player performs?  Do example:  if the dodgers trade Bellinger, if he were to go back to an MVP ( I know highly unlikely with the shoulder) but they get 3 top ten prospects or he continues as is and they get 20-30 organizational type.

Has to be within six months of the original trade. Don't believe you can have conditional lists dependent on the big leaguer's performance, no

The Angels are 17-13 in their last 30...with Ohtani, a healthy Trout, but a very weak supporting cast.  (About 94 wins over course of a season.)  And, yeah, you can't tell a lot from a snapshot like that, but might that be enough to get Phil Nevin a shot at being rehired?
Anthony Franco
4:20
I doubt it matters. They've been terrible under Nevin overall and the team's record over the final month isn't a great way to settle on the manager anyways
4:21
Maybe he's great behind the scenes and they'll keep him around because of that, but I don't think the team's record in September specifically will play into the decision

Can Seattle land Judge, Xander and Ohtani while resigning Haniger?
Anthony Franco
4:22
All of them? Definitely not
Sign one of Judge or Boagerts and then re-sign Haniger? Ok
I can't see the Angels trading Ohtani to the Mariners
Twins fan
4:22
Twins should keep Gio U.?
Who are the Twins top trade assets?  Miranda?  And what would he bring back in a trade?
Anthony Franco
4:24
I'd be more inclined to trade Urshela and let Miranda get a shot at third base. Miranda could center a deal for a really good player, but I'm guessing he's mostly off the table from Minnesota's perspective

Who says no? Cal Quantrill for Gabriel Montero.
And what if it was Quantrill + Andres Gimenz for Montero, Santiago Espinal, Orelvis Martinez.
Anthony Franco
4:25
Jays turn down Moreno for Quantrill. Doubt either team does Quantrill/Giménez for Moreno/Espinal and Orelvis but I'd rather have the Guardians end of that one

Do you agree some players are just not meant for NY or that the Yankees messed them up?  Sonny Gray for example some blame the yankee pitching staff while others say he couldn’t cut it in NY.  But there a long list, AJ Burnett, Gallo etc that were horrible in NY but good before and after.  Please don’t cop out and say a little bit of both haha
Anthony Franco
4:26
I think this does happen to a few players, but it's not as many as a lot of people in New York like to think it is and it's very easy to assign that narrative to players who just slumped for whatever reason

N L east champs —Braves or Mets?
Anthony Franco

Have to lean Mets with the game in hand and the likely tiebreaker

Who joins Garcia in the OF next year assuming he is not traded for pitching? I am assuming the Rangers keep Thompson or Taveras in CF. Seems like Haniger and either Pederson or Bellinger seem reasonable.
